A fairytale film is true, the idea is grand, to combine different fairy-tale characters into one whole, so that it looks interesting, difficult and in this case it turned out to be funny and tragic.
As for the cast, it is simply magnificent, bright, stylish, funny not in vain they were awarded the Saturn award for “Best cast”.
And the other thing that left a double sense is the sagging of the plot. The beginning is funny and bright, the middle is intriguing and makes you think, and the finale is frankly long, boring, albeit unpredictable. The film is also a musical, and it seemed to me that the songs were a bit monotonous, there were so many of them that they did not remember. In the end, I will say that I liked the film more than I did not like and therefore I can put a good rating.
8 IS 10
If you think about it, it could be a great fairy tale (Rapunzel and Cinderella especially liked it, as they finally remembered what happened there to the happy ending). Not exactly what you can show children, but it will suit young people as a colorful and vivid story. And to this is added a beautiful caste and an interesting plot, where the main characters are fairy-tale heroes. For those who still, despite their age, like fairy tales, it will appeal, as here you can meet a lot of people (this is what attracted me as a lover of fairy tales).
Anna Kendrick did not become the best Cinderella for me, but she coped with the role, showing the viewer a slightly different character, which is slightly different from all known. And the voice of this actress is really wonderful. But her prince, played by Chris Pine, left much to be desired. He did a great job of playing the “Beautiful” Prince. Not perfect, not true, but beautiful. One that all girls dream about, but with whom there is no happy ending. I would like to thank you for this development of the plot (but I would prefer the final with the wedding). The witch (Meryl Streep) couldn't get a good look. I don’t know what the matter is, she didn’t look like an antagonist, and she lacked a plot for a good character, so she remained neutral. More love for Rapunzel and Red Riding Hood, as well as baby Jack, as the most innocent character in this story.
I would like this movie to end in the middle. Yes, a happy ending, which may seem banal and uninteresting to many, but it suited perfectly to a children's fairy tale. The antagonist becomes good, Cinderella gets her prince, Rapunzel stays with her lover and all the other fairy tale heroes are happy and have their wonderful ending. But something clearly went wrong, and when nobody expected it, suddenly it became too unreal. To comment on what is happening, after an hour of the film there is no desire and I do not think that ever will. Although, I still liked that the name of the Prince Charming was revealed from such an angle. It was interesting, you can't argue. It may be too unexpected, but interesting. But with the rest of the characters I would not like to see this.
Finally, the most important thing is the musical. Still, much of the story is like that, so it's impossible to miss the music part. It was not as bright as many would like. Rather, quiet, calm and extremely monotonous. All the songs seemed to be to the same tune, only with different words that merged into one. If I liked the initial song (it was interesting to see how one song connects all the main characters), then closer to the middle, such a musical accompaniment bored. Words did not catch, the music did not touch the heart, and what was happening on the screen ceased to please.
Of the pluses, I got the bloody middle of the tale of Cinderella and Rapunzel, as well as the unexpected disclosure of the Prince Charming, and for this we can call this story interesting. Let, not every moment touches, but the viewing was clearly not superfluous and I did not regret that included. Still, it was wonderful, despite such a finale (and I would also like more wolf, which, of course, could like, but to get to know him better was not enough time).
Continuing to pursue Chris Pine in his filmography, I could not miss this fairy tale musical, where he plays the small but colorful role of Charming Prince. If it were not for his participation in this film, I would hardly have dared to watch this dubious film with ambiguous reviews and an inappropriate trailer, according to which it is already clear that the fairy tale will be a kind of product of modern cinema. There was no confidence in the fact that the music producer "The further in the woods..." is the supervisor working on the musical "Sweeney Todd, the demon-barber from Fleet Street", the memories of which I still disgust. And after Les Misérables, I finally disliked the musicals.
Plot. In the picture there are such fabulous characters as Cinderella, Red Riding Hood, Jack ("... and the bean stem"), Rapunzel and the characters from these fairy tales attached to them. They are united by a crazy forest in which they are hunted by a married couple in order to obtain symbolic objects, not the essence of which, which are part of the history of these fairy tales, for exchange with the Witch, who dreams of regaining beauty and youth with their help.
Musical accompaniment. The musical is a fabulous mix in which a huge number of musical numbers are occasionally interrupted by the plot. Seriously, with the number of songs overdone, why the quality of these songs only suffered. When the actors stopped singing, the movie could still be watched. A musical has been made into an ongoing concert or an Indian film. Some songs “about nothing” are so long and similar that it is simply impossible to listen to them. Not a single piece of music caught on. The emphasis is placed only on the tracks, the feeling that the plot goes only in the background, diluting the chants. Echoing the song of the Princes, I will say that listening to monotonous music throughout the film is continuous agony. Although the actors have good vocal data and it is good that the musical inserts did not do dubbing, as for example in "Sweeney Todd", and cost Russian subtitles.
To positive moments include a kind of interpretation of fairy tales or "as it really was", the directors moved far away from the classical canons (although since when does Cinderella talk to birds instead of mice?), as well as the original idea to show events occurring after a happy ending, as if dividing the picture into two acts.
Actors.Chris Pine, for which I actually watched this shydevr, was on top. You've been overdoing it or overdoing it, but you've never seen a prince like that before. The duet of two lovers of Charming (fortunately, not each other - after all, the madness in the film was limit) perfectly sung in the literal and figurative sense and brought a comic effect to the picture. Their musical sketch on the waterfall is the only composition that at least remembers. And Chris Pine showed himself in all his glory, once again proving that he is a first-class actor and the role of any plan he can afford. Johnny Depp, as always, struck with his ability to turn into peculiar eccentric heroes, although I am indifferent to this actor and I declare this not as a fan of Johnny Depp , Anna, who did not see her best role there. I will be original and I will not subscribe to a good gameMaryl Streep .
I want to praise the gloomy atmosphere of the film, the dark forest and really dark, hopeless and frightening. The picture is shown in gloomy tones, which further contributes to the injection of a terrible atmosphere. But special effects... what, the giant in full growth of the budget was enough?
I think the director himself did not fully understand what meaning he wanted to put into his fairy tale creation. It's hard to catch him in all this nonsense going on in the mad forest. Probably, the moral of the film is set out in the slogan “fear your desires”, but this can only be attributed to the Cinderella/Prince line, who get what they want, realize that the dream is not as good as they imagined. But other heroes were not taught a similar lesson. The meaning is lost in this dense forest.
Children should not show this “good” fairy tale, it can plunge them into shock. Only visual series in the style Tim Burton will cause them dislike for eyes accustomed to beautiful bright colorful Disney paintings. And Cinderella's stepmother cutting off her daughters' heels is -- this is -- this is brr. Yes, and the journey of the Red Riding Hood on the stomach of a wolf is a frank mockery of fairy tales. And according to the Wolf, the article about pedophilia of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation cries. The method of catching Cinderella and the prince walking after the wedding is an interesting move.
Despite all the shortcomings, this story will be remembered.
At the second ball there was a stir - Cinderella again ran away from the prince. (c)
The film is wonderful, but by no means childish. Written to persons under 12 is not recommended. I wouldn't even recommend 16. All the rehearsals of the plot the young viewer will not understand. After watching the film, the sensations remained mixed, hoping for a fairy tale, received an ironic and dramatic story. I really liked how well-known fairy tales played out and added a bit of humanity to them. There is no perfect Cinderella that will spend a lifetime looking at the prince with loving eyes, not noticing his shortcomings. There is no perfect prince, he is just ' charming' he did not promise another.
Everyone makes mistakes. People lie, steal, and can't choose ' to be' or ' not to be' But then they help each other. Consolation. That's the beauty of this story. No black and white. There's only gray. Even the witch and she are not very evil, but rather a woman who is not understood by anyone. There are many issues raised. Problems of married life, choice, revenge, obedience to parents, loneliness. All the actors sing well and play well. The scenery is picturesque. If you want to spend an interesting musical evening, have fun, and then think, then feel free to turn on and enjoy the creation of Rob Marshall.

On New Year’s Eve I want my soul to sing and believe in miracles. And if in our country this is expressed in a rather artisanal "Blue Light" (see also "Old / new songs about the main thing"), the Americans for thirty years in a row put the musical "Into The Woods", which is a medley of famous fairy tales. For the Russian audience, the original songs of Stephen Sondheim are empty ringing, and reading the subtitles, lying face to face in a salad, is not very convenient. Those who went to the cinema during the New Year holidays, were waiting, first of all, for an interesting story - a dynamic (albeit familiar) plot, retold from the lips of charming characters performed by famous actors.
A miracle, unfortunately, did not happen. And it’s not only in the strange songs, but also in the weak script. It would seem that in two hours it was possible to turn characters from walking clichés into living personalities - after all, the creators of the series "Once Upon a Time" succeed in forty minutes! Familiar plots could be diversified with details, find not only eternal morality in them, but also nuances close to modern man. Instead we have a beautiful show, expensive costumes, well-recorded voices. This is enough for fifteen minutes to discuss whether Kendrick is suitable for the role of Cinderella, whether Depp’s mustache and what Rapunzel’s hair was made of. Then, with nothing to do, you begin to notice details that are more like a theater of the absurd than a multimillion-dollar Hollywood musical. The scene with the Wolf and Red Riding Hood, for example, causes unpleasant associations with a pedophile looking for a victim; two beautiful princes, pathetically unbuttoned shirts on their chest, climbed into the waterfall knee-deep and singing about love, and asked to qualify for a qualifying round of some American Idol.
The further into the forest, the more wood. The storylines hang a thin web between the vocal parts, and a weak breeze (turned away, yawned) is enough for the movie to break up into separate music videos. The combination of several fairy tales in one did not bring anything new to the perception of each of them, and towards the end I want all these people who got lost in the forest more often waited not happy ending, but hungry giants. Against the integrity of the narrative works the fact that each tale ends not to the final, but somewhere in the middle: Red Riding Hood - in the twentieth minute, Cinderella - after an hour of unrestrained singing, Rapunzel - in an hour with a little. If the Brothers Grimm left their characters on the phrase “they lived happily ever after”, Rob Marshall showed the morning after: he threw fog, fell trees, changed the poles of attraction between the characters. The prince turned out to be a womanizer, Cinderella fled to the baker, the evil witch drowned in the swamp of self-flagellation. Why all this is necessary in a children's fairy tale is unclear. In addition, morality here is even more fragmentary and banal: be careful with your desires and be merciful to your neighbor, because everyone makes mistakes.
This musical rather leaves the viewer perplexed than inspires and energizes. Singing along with the heroes does not pull at all, and watching their predictable adventures is more torment than pleasure.
Strangely, the film did not find a high rating of the audience, but a good musical came out. A lot of famous faces and a little new in the stories we already know. Realism was added to the fairy tale, which scared off many viewers. To joy and happiness added grief and grief. After watching the movie, the slogan “Be afraid of your desires” becomes not a warning, but a menacing one. But everything in order.
Who doesn’t love Meryl Streep? This is impossible, on her shelves more than ten awards, for this role she also received an Oscar nomination. A beautiful and charismatic witch, how she sings, how she plays, there are no words. It’s worth watching the movie (and I’ve seen it without any translation) and oh, damn it, it’s gorgeous. What intonation, what a charming voice. Perhaps she is indeed a witch, words cannot convey what a pleasant impression she left after the film.
The rest, unfortunately, are not so well remembered, although it is impossible to pass by Johnny Depp, his role is not large, but quite good, here he was to the place.
Plot: And this is where the porridge begins. The story is a bit confusing to me. There is too much confusion, both in terms of the film itself and the actions of the actors. They had to pull the plot behind its big ears, so that everything would turn out as it should for directors, screenwriters.
However, there are beautiful, I would say life-giving, scenes in this film. One of them was in the baker's house, the other was attended by princes. If you have any thoughts about whether to watch - at least look for them.
Realism was added to the fairy tale, and now everything is not so good and smooth. Honestly, I was very sad after the movie. I didn’t expect the story to end like this. But the creators decided not to be canonical and not to do "happily ever after." And yet they tried to somehow complete the storylines, slightly softening the blow.
The bottom line is that there is nothing supernatural to expect. A good musical with a lot of great actors and a new variation of old fairy tales. Open up and enjoy yourself with a pinch of sadness in return.
The first information that appeared about the new screen fairy tale The farther into the forest marked only good expectations about it. A wonderful cast of actors, expensive special effects, a musical - all this is an indisputable plus for the picture. But after viewing there are a number of serious claims to it.
Minuses. First of all, how could the baker's wife in a fairy tale, fiercely wanting to have a baby, start feeling for another person? I understand that this happens, but not in a fairy tale where everything is canonical, but only in real life. This is not typical of films of this genre. Secondly, why the ridiculous death of one of the characters in the film? She wasn't captured, she wasn't killed or eaten by a monster, she just fell off a cliff. Not at all like the plot of a fairy tale, it is rather realism, not characteristic of films of such content. Third, the performances of some actors, particularly Chris Pine, were not convincing and their images were not complete.
Meryl Streep's scene in the baker's cabin is one of the best in her career. She was very active and showed a very professional game. It was as if she had been given the opportunity to be herself. I've never seen anyone play an evil witch so well. Another plus of the film The farther into the forest is the musical: the actors do not just talk, they sing, and it always decorates the picture, listen and watch much more pleasantly. Undoubted success can also be called the idea to combine in one fairy tale storylines of several famous fairy tales, which have already been filmed more than once.
And although the film has a very interesting plot and middle, towards the end, all the interest somehow falls apart before our eyes. Characters do not do what is expected, and the end is not as happy as it could be. There was probably something missing in the end for the authors, or they overdid it. Therefore, the corresponding assessment.
That's right. The farther into the woods, the thicker the wilds, guys. And this is not even because the author of the text for musicals is more indifferent, but because good musicals, in principle, are few. Putting my hand on my heart, I swear to you that this indifference does not affect my review. After all, a bad production is a bad production, and no other. Salt is salty. It's a fact. As the fact that Marshall, in an effort to make an extraordinary fairy-tale musical, failed.
Strictly speaking, the musical, although it is a demonstration of the choral and solo abilities of the actors involved in it, should still be "packaged" in some adequate and competent history. Especially in the case of fantasy - a fairy tale. We should be interested. Unfortunately, this is the problem with the project. I approve of Rob Marshall’s desire to show his version of the fabulous vinaigrette, but the attempt was extremely unsuccessful. Mixing all the ingredients in one large cauldron, the chief “cook” of the above dish, perhaps without realizing it, prepares such an unappetizing bourda that “finishing” it becomes not an easy task. There are glimpses. For example, in the form of a prince who does not spare himself for the sake of hot dances in the style of Indian cinema and turned into a plumber Petrovich, who turns out to be a real womanizer. Rub your noses, trivial romantics. Some of the characters have a lot of fun, which I also liked. And what is the "correction" of the fingers and heels for the size of the shoe? I couldn't resist it. It smelled like a thrash. It makes sense. Children, I don’t want to call this story. Who said stories should only be for children? Original and uncanonical. It is a pity that it was not possible to beat all this with dignity. However, there are questions to the screenwriter, who, either can not write, or did not want to bother. The overall structure of the given narrative resembles a rusty frame, which creaks, staggers, but somehow miraculously does not fall apart until the final credits. However, as soon as these same credits appear, you look away indignantly. Like, it's kind of sluggish. It is not difficult to guess that, since there is no interesting story for which you can perform songs, then listening to songs will not be so interesting. In general, the most correct would be the final version of the musical minutes for thirty to thirty-five. Because this deliberate stretching of stupid material does not promise any pleasant sides from the very beginning. You can not allow such a child to slide to the level of the “Blue Light”, where everyone tries to grab his piece of cake, while his participation without making any weather. You can endlessly run through the forest and sing monotonous (often boring) verses, but excitement and intrigue from this will not be added. Tellingly, the picture is occupied by very good actors. Not all, of course. Not everyone can sing well. Some people, and in general, give out such intra-pharyngeal sounds when singing that I want to squander these episodes. I would say yes to Emily Blunt. The only person who tried most honestly on the set. There was Depp, but he didn't play. And he didn't have time for that. Meryl Streep jumps up and down with emotion or something. It’s like another Oscar is going to go. But she already has three. Nominations and listings are not better. Anna Kendrick does not fit into the image of Cinderella. On the other hand, she's better than Amanda Seifred. In general, this unpretentious musical employs quite a lot of famous and not very actors, but some do not play, others do not sing well, and others (children) perform in general. But there are no complaints about the technical and visual side of the issue. Costumes, scenery, background views - all this Marshall qualitatively and firmly interconnected. And, looking at a modest budget by Hollywood standards, all unnecessary claims disappear by themselves. Most of that fifty million dollars clearly went to the actors. I don’t even have enough for a good composer. Which proves the complete tastelessness of musical compositions.
To be honest, I have no particular desire to scold the creation of Rob Marshall. But there's nothing to praise. The last "Pirates" that came out under his hands, I even liked. It was very different from the Verbinski trilogy. But this musical, on which, it seems, the director may well be based, why - then nothing hooked. Yes, it's beautiful and stylish. But the inner core of the product is not. By all rules, this production was supposed to give some emotions, but did not fulfill such a function. Neither the confident camera work nor the fabulous atmosphere, which, although limp on both legs, is present, does not cover this. And therefore, probably, “The further in the forest...” will appeal mainly to omnivorous absorbers of musicals of different breeds and species. On the other hand, the cost of staging was more than paid off. Which means a lot of people like it. Well. There are no friends in taste and color. A simple viewer, “not experienced” in such crafts, alas, there is nothing to do here. Forgive those who disagree, but listening to solo performances in the best traditions of Rastorguev about the forest and an amazing moment, as it does not seem valuable and enjoyable occupation. That’s because the story didn’t have a good script. There should have been fairy tale songs, not the other way around. I could not have seen it, I will tell you. And to reconsider, I certainly will never. I'll give you four. For Emily, costumes and love for childhood favorite fairy tales. They are friends, and they are immortal. And we're going to watch them film at all costs. This is most likely due to the cash register.
I remember when this musical was just released, my only wish was to visit the cinema as soon as possible and appreciate a new film with old, kind and beloved characters of fairy tales. Agree, the lover of the series “Once Upon a Time”, which grew up on stunning cartoons about Disney princesses and reading wonderful collections of fairy tales, is very pleased when the big screen comes out any new film, which is based on the plot of an old fairy tale. But fate ordered that I never got to the cinema, and “The further in the woods...” had to be postponed until the DVD release. And now, when the long-awaited creation of cinema is viewed, I am sitting surrounded by the wreckage of high hopes and long expectations and happy that I did not get to the cinema and saved money.
I watched the first half of the film with interest, because the idea was really good: watching the baker and his wife overcome the difficulties to get items for the Witch was really interesting. But what started after was, in my opinion, completely unnecessary and looked like a failed attempt to fill the void of screen time. A good script went too far into the woods, got lost and couldn’t find its way back.
The film takes place mainly at night, so the darkness rarely leaves the screen, leaving the bright moments far behind.
The characters didn’t make me happy either. The baker and his wife did not look like a happy couple, and their relationship was extremely strange. Red Riding Hood was turned into a little glutton. Jack was too stupid and obsessed with the cow. Cinderella struck the most. In this exposition of her story, the viewer no longer sympathizes with the poor girl who, despite her hard life and endless oppression, remains kind and strong. Here I saw only a strange young lady, who herself does not know what she wants and at first irresistibly rushes to the ball, and then escapes from it three times. The wolf, played by the consummate Johnny Depp, was too few. The only one who delighted me in this realm of madness is the Witch, brilliantly played by Meryl Streep.
All the songs in this musical were monotonous, as if it were one long song, in which the words changed regularly. However, despite this, everything sounded great in the performance of the actors, despite the complexity of the performance.
Thus, the protractedness and ill-thought-out storyline, unsympathetic characters whose actions do not lend themselves to common sense, as well as the monotonous chants lower the rating of the film. “The Farther Into the Woods” is a movie I don’t want to watch. A movie for once.
P.S. Of the advantages, we can single out only Meryl Streep, a beautiful performance of monotonous songs by actors, a song of glamorous princes at the waterfall (this moment did not hurt me) and a short appearance of Johnny Depp.

The first twenty minutes of the film did not bode well. Famous fairy-tale characters - Cinderella, Red Riding Hood, Jack, as well as the Baker and his wife - sing about what they would like. The melody is lyrical, pleasant, the voices are not bad. Meryl is magnificent (although her character is the fruit of the imagination of a sick schizoid). In general, the idea is very good – the characters have their own stories, which coincide by chance. That's what I thought for the first twenty minutes. Then the utter madness begins, and the further into the forest - the more the characters (and the viewer with them) lose their minds.
Most of the film takes place at night, so you want to fall asleep in the thirtieth minute. A bunch of trees against a dark background, dumb characters walking through the woods and trying to change fate. It sounds crazy and it looks funny.
It is claimed that the film contains an element of comedy, but I was not laughing when the scary princes (Pine, shave, please!) jumped on the rocks, tore their shirts and sang about unrequited love. By the way, there is no humor in the film. Not a joke. At all. Probably the viewer should have been amused by the crazy look of the baker’s wife or the boy who thinks that the cow is not a cow, but a bull.
A little more about the atmosphere of the film. In this picture at least participated Tim Burton, and as a maximum – the group “Nautilus Pompilius”. I couldn’t wait to hear the song “Black Birds”. It is necessary to speak separately about the musical component.
One tune for the entire two hours of the musical! A melody that resembles a maniac singing an hour after the start of viewing. Do not worry, it will play in your head for a very long time, embarrassing and sometimes making you turn around for no reason.
Oh, I have to write about the idea of the movie. She's gone. Steal, kill, cheat, wander in the woods, repeat Into the woods and I wish more often - that's all you need. If at the beginning of the film, the characters are ordinary people who are unhappy because they don’t have what they dream of, then at the end they are moral freaks who should have been crushed by a stupid bean stem in the beginning. Then I would not have to endure this musical of one song without a gram of meaning for two hours.
Trying to find something good in this movie didn’t work out. I decided to add a point just for the presence of Meryl - she is still great, although she could not pull "Into the Woods" even to the level of "seeable" cinema.

In principle, I always have a positive attitude to the reworking of good old fairy tales in a new way. Sometimes it is interesting to look at a familiar story from a different angle. For example, Maleficent was particularly pleased in this regard. But, unfortunately, not all changes are successful. Although this film is only cast intrigued me. I didn’t know it was going to be a musical in the real sense. No, I saw that the genre was listed in the graph, but I expected that there would be only a few musical numbers with original songs, as in Disney cartoons. And in fact, it turned out to be a full-fledged Broadway production. Honestly, I didn’t like these motifs at all. In addition, the dubbing of the songs was not done, so half of the film had to be watched in English.
But there are some positive things that I liked. First, it was nice to recognize fairy-tale characters in not quite ordinary images. So, for example, Red Riding Hood became a little glutton, and the Prince of Cinderella became an avid womanizer. These nuances give the fairy tale the spirit of modernity. I like the irony of the creators. When the stepmother mercilessly chopped the fingers and heels of her daughters in order to shove them into the ill-fated shoe, it was enchanting. Or, for example, the song battle of the two princes “Agony”, in which they are measured by their pine sufferings on Cinderella and Rapunzel. Thirdly, a beautiful acting. I especially enjoyed my favorites - Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt. Both looked great on the screen in their images. And the last plus is the special effects. I was especially pleased with the sudden appearance of the witch.
Of the disadvantages, first of all, I highlight dull and monotonous music. After 15 minutes, I was tired of them pouring everything from empty to empty. It's not "Let it go" from Braveheart, which you can listen to because it has nice vocals and words with meaning. I’m not impressed with Jack’s story, although I don’t like the original. There only the mother turned out to be funny, who handed out the backs of the head to her son. The Red Riding Hood line isn't that good either. I may be picking on Depp, but I'm tired of his weird images. And Red Riding Hood and Jack had such nasty squeaky voices that their musical parts were torture for me. And the ending was too long. Although I like that not all stories ended with happy endings. Still, a touch of gloom gives the musical its highlight. In general, it turned out well, but I will definitely not reconsider.
The film “The further in the woods...” is a musical misunderstanding. And even the rich scenery, special effects and participation of such stars as Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Johnny Dep and Chris Pine does not improve the experience of the film. I am very surprised at their participation in this project. And in this case, I do not intend to admire the play of the brilliant Meryl. The bitch from Death to Her Face, and the singing was better. How could you choose such a terrible actress to play the role of the beloved fairy-tale beauty Cinderella instead of Amanda Seifred? Anna Kendrick may have been nominated for an Oscar in the past, but her facial features are clearly far from the ideal of fairy-tale beauty: a humpnose, incorrectly delineated mouth and a missing chin - just like Katya Pushkareva, not Cinderella! It is not surprising that the scene of meeting at the ball and love at first sight was absent.
If we consider “THIS” as a mix of fairy tales, then their plot is too distorted, distorting the morality of each story. Cinderella, methodically running away from the ball three nights in a row to look in the forest for adventures on the fifth point. Why?! "Groundhog Day," "All Cats Are Grey in the Dark," or "The Three Dates Rule"? Does it make sense to run away if a beautiful dress at midnight never turns into rags? But the prince still thinks of smearing the steps with resin to catch his beloved, like bees on honey! Maybe it was worth a couple more traps in the style of the film "Collector" put for a hochma? How could a mother amputate her own daughters? To make a crystal, sorry, golden shoe fit. Why in the tale of Rapunzel was it necessary to change the golden hair color to wheat? To write off part of the film's budget for the purchase of 3 kg of natural hair instead of acrylic only because of the opinion of the makeup artist, and he did not otherwise get a kickback from the purchase? Everyone knows that Rapunzel’s hair turned dark after it was cut. In the film, Rapunzel's spit resembles a perhydrolic bagel. Who thought of making a poor cow eat a cloak, a shoe and this hair? If I were the World Society for the Protection of Animals, I would sue the author of the idea for advocating the torture of the main nurse of mankind. How could you make Red Riding Hood an arrogant freebie who did not pay for a muffin and a selfish glutton who ate all the buns for a sick grandmother along the way? And from the five-minute monologue of the wolf with the epithet "puffy" frankly smelled like a pervert. In the part dedicated to the fairy tale of magic beans, there is a harp, but there is no golden goose. There is no scene of a giant falling from the felled stems, because the earthquake explains everything. And if not, the vengeful wife of the giant will interpret. And so you can list for a long time, because the characters of the characters are distorted to the point of indecency.
The film is presented as a family. But at the same time, he is full of cruelty, carries the children's minds a lack of motivation of the heroes and faith in the happy ending of the fairy tale. For adults, this interpretation is also little interesting, because the purpose of any fairy tale is to plunge the adult mind into childhood, and not to cause the desire to leave the cinema in order to smoke nervously. After all, as a musical in general, it is a musically boring creation. A monotonous staccato, also disfigured by vocals. Most actors have unpleasant timbre with poor overtones, falsettoes are barely stretched due to computer effects. It turned out a bad parody of Disney cartoons of the mid-twentieth century. In addition, if you compare with other excellent films-musicals, where at least they sing beautifully and to the place: “Moulin Rouge”, “Burlesque”, “The Phantom of the Opera” and others, in the film “The further in the woods...” there is no clear storyline, but subtitles prevent you from following what is happening in the center of the screen. That’s probably why it’s called this $50 million show. I am silent about the practical absence of the choreographic component as a mandatory part of the musical. Maybe this musical is on Broadway and is perceived "on the URA!", as it is presented to us by critics. But I personally find it difficult to verify and believe this fact, watching the film adaptation of Rob Marshall. And this director made once "Chicago" and "Memoirs of a Geisha", films that I love.
It seems that the director and screenwriter just hate the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm!
There are various restrictions on films. If earlier, to watch an adult film, in the cinema, you could go with your elders or parents, now thanks to restrictions, this will not pass. The film was given a 12+ sticker, which surprised me. It's not a movie for kids, even though it says Disney. With such humor, I would give all “16+”, because it is too early to traumatize the psyche of children.
The idea of the movie turned out to be interesting, but everything is never perfect. For two hours, we hear a song every 5 minutes, and in the middle of the movie you’re thinking, ‘Lord, those songs again.’ How long has it been?" Yes, it's a musical, but it could have been played differently. Although I agree that Johnny Depp's song and Meryl Streep's songs I liked, but they were 3-4 for the whole film.
“The Farther Into the Woods” is a hodgepodge of famous actors and Disney characters who throughout the movie run around in the woods, sing irritable songs and commit strange acts. Yes, in places you can laugh from the heart, but children do not need to show this. They won't understand some jokes.
I expected a lot from this film, as the plot seems interesting, and the cast is just great. But it turned out to be a rather strange film, at first you get a little confused in the plot, then some nonsense happens on the screen.
Seeing the film as a parody is also impossible. Somewhere, of course, there are attempts to parody classical fairy tales, but it turned out, frankly, terrible, which is called: “If you do not know, do not undertake.”
Songs are all on one motif, which is tired of the 30th minute.
This movie is another disappointment from Disney. Even Johnny Depp (who appears 3-5 minutes in the film) and Meryl Streep could not save him. My assessment:
At the end of 2014, on the world screens from the studio Walt Disney Pictures came the musical of Rob Marshall “The further in the woods...”, which was a film version of the famous Broadway play of the same name in 1987. The author of the production was composer Stephen Sondheim, very revered in the United States, although not so famous in other countries.
I can’t judge what this spectacle was like on Broadway, since I’m not familiar with this creation (as well as most viewers who went to see this film in the theater) – but the film caused almost no emotions, except disappointment.
By the way, I think it makes sense not to mention, in this case, the Broadway production, because cinema and theater are different things, and everything that can work in the theater, can not always be interesting on the screen.
And if the audience does not like the film, then it hardly makes sense to say that “the performance is better” and so on, because if the audience did not like the film, then only the “most notorious theatergoers” will want to spend time studying other versions of this creation. I'm not one of those theatergoers, so a little bit early written is not about me. So I'm just going to talk about movies and nothing else.
However, I have already been quite distracted from the essence, so it is better to move on to the plot of the film “The further in the woods...”: A baker and his wife can’t have children, as a long time ago an evil witch put the curse of childlessness on his family.
And now this witch shows up and tells them that she wants to regain the youth she lost because of the Framer’s father. She agrees to lift the curse of childlessness - but the farmer and his wife must find four items in the forest in three days to create a magical drink that can help her regain youth and beauty.
These items: a red cloak, a golden shoe, a white cow and a strand of hair. All these things can be found in the forest in these three days, but since the forest is fabulous, and therefore you need to look for the necessary things from the heroes of fairy tales: the cloak belongs to Red Riding Hood, the golden shoe to Cinderella, the white cow to the boy Jack (from the fairy tale “Jack and the Bean stem”), and the strand of hair to Rappuntzel. But even after all the heroes of fairy tales achieve their goals, the long-awaited “and they lived happily ever after” for some reason does not come.
To say that the plot of this production is too hopeless, of course, is impossible. But “a set of classic fairy tales by Charles Pierrot and the Brothers Grimm”, “stitched” into a single plot, “spreads at the seams” within 20 minutes after watching the film. In addition, the fascinating and dynamic film is clearly lacking.
After the first half hour, when viewing the viewer, an additional task is imposed - "not to get confused in all this fabulous cabbage", since the transition from one fairy tale to another is made so clumsy that it is quite tiresome.
Interest in the film after an hour of viewing is already hopelessly lost, although sometimes it is still fun, the truth is fun not from the plot - but from the fact that what is happening turns into a circus - for example, the moment where Cinderella runs from the prince from the ball three days in a row (there is so much celebration) - looks extremely stupid.
Tough moments, such as cutting off the heel of one of Cinderella’s step sisters or peeling out the eyes of both sisters, are no longer surprising – because the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm in the original resembled more “horror stories” than what Disney released on the screens in the 30-60s of the XX century. Yes, and interest in the production by this moment has already been completely lost, to be surprised by such a thing.
Of course, this picture is not suitable for children, because they are unlikely to be able to digest what is happening on the screen, and in fact, children under 10 years old can cause psychological trauma. So, deciding to view the picture, do not pay attention to the sign “Walt Disney” – for family viewing, the film is definitely not suitable.
The actors are trying to help the film, but unfortunately not everyone. Meryl Streep as a witch once again shows herself as a versatile actress, able to raise the level of any production - even as weak as this one. The actress gives her character quite human qualities and at the same time skillfully portrays the villain.
In addition, she pleasantly surprises with her unexpectedly good vocal data – I must admit that since the musical “Mama Mia” (2008), the actress sang much better and even took the notes that I did not expect from her.
In short, bravo - the nomination for "Oscar" she absolutely deserved. The only bad thing is that all the efforts of the actress are ruined (almost to the root) by a weak script and weak directing - but separately, Streep's work deserves attention.
Also pleasantly surprised Emily Blunt in the role of the baker’s wife, already playing with Streep. In this film, the actresses play almost on equal terms - and Blunt turns out to be no worse. James Corden was also good and funny as a baker. Anna Kendrick in the role of Cinderella neither from an actor’s nor from a vocal point of view did not make any impression.
Chris Pine as Prince Cinderella looked faded and quite ridiculous. Johnny Depp's small appearance as The Wolf looked comical, but Depp is too small in the film to appreciate his performance here.
Daniel Huttlestone after the role of Gavrosh in Les Miserables (2012) finds himself in his place as Jack - a good start for a 15-year-old boy, one can only wish him good luck in the acting field. Of the other actors, Christine Baransky can be distinguished as Cinderella's stepmother and Lilla Crawford as Red Riding Hood.
Speaking of music, in this film it is uninteresting and too monotonous - as if the songwriter of the musical Stephen Sondheim wrote only one motif - and used it with various poems throughout the production. Personally, I have only two numbers left in my memory after watching: "Stay with Me" and "Last Midnight."
Special effects in the film are used at a very average level, except that you can single out the number of the Strip “Last Midnight”, which thanks to “dust” tricks looked quite impressive, although not too original.
As a result, we have one of the most uncharacteristic pictures for the Walt Disney studio, which is able to attract the viewer only with the big names of movie stars and some irrational fiction of what is happening. But it is difficult to recommend this film to anyone, so it is up to each viewer to decide whether to watch the film or not. Thank you very much.
Many directors and writers believe that the more events there are in the film, the better and more interesting it will become.
Lies.
This picture is a kind of fabulous potion - there are all sorts of heroes who are united by a witch. Having instructed the two spouses to find artifacts, she brought their paths together with other characters. Nothing unusual - today many interpret fairy tales in their own way, interfere with them and get a good result. The most successful version is, of course, the series - Once Upon a Time.
Due to the number of characters and events, this film is more tiring than intriguing. And it's not much use.
In my opinion, the film should have ended with a wedding. And then maybe there would be more positive feedback. But all these unnecessary events, all these dialogues, escapes, deaths, betrayals... God, they even distorted the fairy tale about Cinderella ...
This film was not saved by Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Johnny Depp, or Chris Pine (even these songs of the princes on the waterfall – who thought of it... and it’s never funny).
Someone will say it's a comedy! There is nothing serious here.
I’ll say this: if it were a parody of movies like Scary Movie, then I’d laugh, turn it off and forget. But this is just an unfortunate mix of fairy tales, where in the end some characters die, and the rest for some reason decide to live together. Even perverts like the Brothers Grimm did not think of this, honestly.

Before us is a rather strange musical, in half-blurred tones, with absolutely not memorable arias, but with a good performance of actors and an obvious attempt to present something instructive - the latter is characteristic of any fairy tale.
As I said, the melodies are completely unmemorable, and after watching, I can't play any of them, which has never happened to me before. It seems as if the characters sing the same tune, only with different words. Of all the arias and duets, it is clear that the Forest changed their fates. Quite inexpressive music spoils expressive singing, whether it is Maryl Streep, which needs to create tension, but the a-capella in such moments is inappropriate, or Emily Blunt, in which the cow is lost, Prince (Chris Pine) met, then Cinderella (Anna Kendrick) does not want to share the tap.
It is clear that the film was made according to fairy tales in the version of the Brothers Grimm, that is, gloomy, tough, but with a twist. But then I have complaints about compositional construction. For the plot it would be better to limit the fairy tale, the second part with the giant turned out to be superfluous, although it was needed in order to show that all the good you need to pay for. From a certain point on, I couldn’t wait for this musical to be over.
There are three highlights. Firstly, this is the Wolf by Johnny Depp, which could not but like aesthetically; secondly, the duo of Princes, this wonderful grotesque parody of the classical image, and thirdly, the Red Riding Hood, an emancipated accelerator, which, judging by her grandmother, has where to go.
As a pity, a great acting does not save from the feeling that all the characters here are crazy, and the only normal looks like the Witch (Maryl Streep).
In the end, the surviving characters wonder if they should have done what they did at all, and how things would have turned out if they hadn’t. In principle, that's not bad: there's a moral to think about. But to bring us to this logical point could be more musical and much shorter.

The truth is that whatever is done is for the better. Not getting to the cinema for the fabulous musical “The further in the woods...”, I was sincerely upset. The magic of a fairy tale on the big screen would certainly work charmingly – and at least an hour and a half of a good pastime would be guaranteed. A little later, after watching at home, I sighed with relief - still good that I did not get to the cinema. I have not lost anything.
The idea of retelling a good old tale in a new way has always been tempting and attractive to me. When several fairy tales are mixed at once, and even made of this explosive mixture of musicals, the degree of expectation and interest grows unwittingly. Right, you need to have enviable skill so that these ingredients are harmoniously combined within the allotted time. It is worth admitting that up to a certain point the director succeeded. Long-loved heroes in familiar situations right and left sing songs (unfortunately, absolutely not memorable) with their wonderful voices. Their roads are intertwined, entangled, woven into one tangle, which soon unravels safely. And now, it seems, the denouement, everyone is happy and satisfied, and soon the final fanfare will sound, the credits are about to go... And that's where it starts! Apparently, for greater effect, the fairy tale decided to spice up social and moral problems. But it looked, in my opinion, not quite appropriate, and what is worse is boring. So for the last forty minutes, I basically stopped catching the thread of what was happening and frankly waited for the finale. A little pleasant impression was smeared completely.
What I admired from beginning to end was the actors. Everyone is beautiful and talented. Meryl Streep, as always, is on top. Not prevented to believe her even funny, clumsily drawn wrinkles on the forehead. Not far behind her and Emily Blunt, pleasantly surprised once again. These are the two characters I remember the most.
Unfortunately, except for an interesting idea, a wonderful cast and scenery, the film has nothing to boast of. Therefore, I do not think that you can lose anything if you suddenly leave without the audience’s attention the film “The further in the woods...”

Accidentally caught my eye this movie musical, and memory suggested that he was nominated for some film awards (as it turned out, very prestigious). And not surprisingly, considering Meryl Streep in one of the main roles. Actually, the musical itself, based on theatrical production, is a hodgepodge of favorite fairy tales about Cinderella, Red Riding Hood, Jack and the bean stem. Well, Rapunzel's here. Why not? Everything looks bright, the actors are beautiful, they sing well and even the song motif is remembered. Most of the film does not cause claims. But towards the end, a completely incomprehensible metamorphosis occurs with the fairy tale: the stories of the characters are intertwined more and more closely and in the end something happens that can not be rationally explained. And that's what's most striking. Let’s call it what it is: the Prince cheats on Cinderella with the wife of the baker (literally yesterday became a mother), who immediately “jumps” off the cliff; Cinderella does not mind becoming a foster mother to the baby, as the birds told her what the Prince was doing in the woods; the servant of the Prince kills Jack’s mother. Red Riding Hood in a wolf-skin cloak just does not mind “hang out” with new friends. As a result, we have an almost model family: mom, dad, son, daughter and a sexless nameless baby. The witch, who does not attract a completely negative character, simply drowns in the swamp, condemned by all the characters for his desire to look young again. As a result, after watching “The Further Into the Woods”, the answer to the question “What is this film about?” remained completely incomprehensible to me. As for Rapunzel, she was replaced with corn in the final.
The musical is not the easiest genre, but if it succeeds, you get a masterpiece. This musical was successful... halfway, and the review could have been green if the second half of the film had not turned into a terrible mess.
Yes, yes, we all (or not all) know that the fairy tales were actually harsh, that the fingers in Cinderella were really chopped off, that Sleeping Beauty was raped. The authors of fairy tales adhered to fairy tales, but until the moment they decided: “Let it be even tougher than in the original source.” After this thought of the writers, supported by the consent of the director, at first a good film turned into a deaf and impassable darkness. Indeed, the farther into the forest, the farther away from common sense.
If you have ever loved fairy tales, you can safely say goodbye to childhood: “The farther to the forest” will provide a choice of murderers, unfaithful wives and husbands, egoists and sadists. The only bright spots in the entire musical are the voracious Red Riding Hood, Cinderella and Rapunzel. Three heroes for all their glory! And after that, when Cinderella is left in the role of extras, and Rapuzzel is forgotten, there is only one Cap.
Why the second half of the film about the last bean grain? It completely distorts the meaning of the first part of the film. Personally, I asked two questions: “What the hell is going on?” and “Why am I still watching this?” The second question defeated evil, the film was left in the background and then turned off.
I am not going to review only if the first half, finding the final to my liking.

And Johnny Depp, whose face is so clearly visible on the cover, is actually the hero of three minutes of the film.
The picture is almost perfect. The actors are hard to blame for a weak game. Everything was emotional, vivid and clear. Their dramatic roles were complemented by musical numbers. It was the numbers, because sometimes there was not enough plastic transition between scenes with ordinary speech and singing.
I would especially like to highlight the young actors (Red Riding Hood, Jack) – impeccable vocals and expressive play.
Meryl Streep is great in both playful and vocal performances of her role. And to turn into a young beauty, it was enough for her to wash off the disfiguring makeup!
Johnny Depp was on top. His sexy wolf is a new image of the "howling wolf." Half a century later!
But still, the main load in the picture was not the visual effects, not the acting, and not the musical component, but the idea itself.
Idea laid back in the Broadway musical of the same name "Into the Woods". “Be afraid of your desires” is the slogan of the film. I would like to correct it a little: “Know your desires.” Then it becomes clear the development of events in this film. The authors of the musical saw in the characters, seemingly completely familiar to all, those hidden desires that led to the famous finale of the picture.
You can trace the fate of each character. The equilibrium power of their secret desires leads to unexpected results for the heroes themselves. If the characters of these fairy tales knew more about themselves, they could manage events much more successfully! The world would really be more fabulous!
I want to point out a few points that need to be understood before viewing.
1. It's a musical. If you do not like musicals, rock operas and so on, you should not start.
2. The original texts of the zongs are very idiomatic, translation of such texts without loss of quality is almost unrealistic. If you plan to listen to them in translation, most likely you will be disappointed.
3. The concepts of good and evil are repeatedly mixed and the characters repeatedly appear to us from different sides. Just like life. This is an allegorical film about real adult life, not a fairy tale for children. Do not show it to children until at least 13.
If you are an adult who loves musicals, appreciates allegories, understands that the film is a standalone work, not a pre-literal film adaptation, and is able to watch the film in the original language - then turn on and enjoy.
The number of good actors intrigued, attracted the whole world to watch. For me, the film was a failure.
In the first half, where all the most famous fairy tales are mixed, confused by the knots of their stories with each other, there is always a feeling of excessive naivety, simplicity, even stupidity - a fairy tale only for a narrow circle of spectators, for children. It is a pity, because expectations from advertising were high: quite often there are enchanting and clever fairy tales that are interesting to watch with the whole family. “The farther into the woods” is not one of them. And even this narrow circle will be afraid of a witch with such makeup and unpleasant grotesque moment, where a mother tries to shove her daughters’ legs into Cinderella’s shoes in the most terrible way, I would not show this to my children!
In the second half, when it seems that everything has already improved and good reigned in the world, suddenly begins complete nonsense, every minute later I want to turn off the film and do something more useful, because neither children nor adults will be able to understand. It was enough to mix the “salad of fairy tales” once to convey any meaning to the viewer.
Having got acquainted with the cast immediately wanted to see, and still that this is a children's fairy tale and everything else not my favorite musical, I never understood how you can enjoy watching people in a natural environment begin to sing and dance, but this is a fairy tale, so I thought that the element of the musical will be successful. The title of the film had a false impression, I expected an original fairy tale, in fact it is a mix of different famous fairy tales, and all the classic and popular fairy tales combined into one story with a silly plot.
In Hollywood, it has become not enough to shoot just individual fairy tales, now we have several films about Cinderella, the same about Snow White, and about Red Riding Hood too, and many more adaptations. But half the trouble that the classic stories were combined, they were reworked to everything else, I can not refrain from saying that they distorted all the beautiful things that were in the fairy tale about Cinderella, added unnecessary details to children that generally upset the psyche. And all this mess decided to do in songs and dances, in songs with annoying repetition of the same phrases.
Play actors are difficult to assess, they are all here as individuals, Meryl Streep was not bad in the role of a witch, Depp showed for a small moment, and he did not differ from his past incarnate heroes, princesses and princesses do not look like, in their images it is impossible to fall in love. Moments with the breaking of comedy more like black comedies for adults, the actors seemed to hold back laughter when they performed songs, they do not want to believe, at least take princes, the creators killed all the virtues in them, such a mixed tale does not carry any morality that is in the original stories. “The further into the forest” is a fairy tale with adult overtones, with many stupid plot twists, without a goal and with a dull ending.
The special effects and costumes turned out well, it was nice to look at the picture, nothing else.

I love film adaptations of classic fairy tales and their interpretations, but this film plunged me into culture shock.
First of all, I want to say: a lot of stuff is piled up, all in a pile, all the characters are familiar to each other, you seem to find yourself in a typical yard on the outskirts with grandmothers on benches, with prostitutes and hooligans from the neighboring front, hard-working neighbors on the court and a pack of torn from parents of minors in the yard. A lot of heroes, they are noisy, geeky, screaming, like money on the market.
I did not like that the storylines of some characters are not spelled out to the end. Where did Rapunzel and her prince go? What happened to Cinderella's crippled sisters? Where did the long-suffering white cow go?
Surprisingly, with an age qualification of 12+, the heroes are outright scoundrels and vipers: The baker fools the child, Cinderella birds peck out the eyes of her relatives, a worthy spouse does not mind an affair on the side, Jack constantly steals and looting, and when he is almost overtaken by payback, he in collusion with other heroes kills an innocent couple of giants. In the film a huge number of incomprehensible, unjustified and ridiculous deaths.
Where did it all start? The whole thing started because the Witch wanted to regain beauty and youth. Out of the fly, a family is inflated, which combines a glutton, a deceiver, a thief and a proud one.
Two hours later, I want to ask: What did I just see?
Of the advantages, I can note the visual series (still, costumes and hairstyles are very bright and original, memorable) and the way the actors sang , it can not be underestimated. I watched the movie in English - the original songs are a miracle! Also a very cool cast - amazing Meryl Streep and Johnny Depp (but there was very little of him in the film, I hoped, more will be). The Wolf of Johnny Depp is a wonderful image with breathtaking makeup and costume, just flying away!!! In general, the film is designed in a very strange peculiar style, watching it, no matter what, is pleasant and interesting. The writer is probably a drug addict, but the movie doesn’t spoil it. You can recommend the picture to fans of musicals, fairy tales and psychotropic drugs.
Did you know that the original musical Into the Woods by Stephen Sondheim and James Lepine has been shown 764 times on Broadway? I think that already says something. Of course, the film adaptation of the musical is quite another thing, it is complex and insidious, but in my opinion it turned out perfectly.
I'll start with the script. Very unusual and therefore interesting way in this film intertwined well-known and beloved fairy tales - Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Rapunzel and Jack with his beans; however, with some changes in the plots. They are, let’s say, closer to real life, where mistakes happen, where people sometimes turn out to be quite different from what they seem at first (which only a prince is worth!), and where a happy ending happens, alas, not always. In addition, they receive a continuation. Do you think Cinderella lived happily with the prince for the rest of her life? Did Little Red Riding Hood ever go to the woods again? Whatever. In the second half of the film you will see everything.
Next. The creators of the film perfectly coped with the selection of actors. The task was complicated by the fact that actors were needed to sing, and to lure the viewer – well-known. And that's where the surprise was. I already knew Meryl Streep, or rather, I heard in the musical Mamma Mia!, about the musical talent of Johnny Depp (you, what kind of wolf came out of him here!), but Emily Blunt just amazed me. Although amazing, it is not for nothing that they say that talented people are talented in everything! And a huge thank you to the Russian distributors for giving the opportunity to hear your favorite actors in the original, without dubbing! It is worth noting that the songs here are quite accessible to understand and without subtitles, are easy to remember (and will sit in your head for a long time, believe me... “mother said: straight ahead ...”), are not without humor (" Agony performed by princes – well, just top class!) and at the same time filled with meaning.
This movie is like a reminder for adults. On the one hand, about a happy childhood, dreams of a prince and exploits. On the other hand, about the realities of life that do not coincide with childhood dreams. But in the words of the songs sound such simple, but sometimes forgotten truths that help to cope with all adversity, make the right choice and not worry if all the same suddenly make a mistake. Definitely worth a look!
“The further into the forest, the greater the temptation.”
Despite the impressive cast, nothing was expected from the film. The maximum is to avoid vomiting and try to fall asleep after a difficult day. Did it work? Come on. These modern fairy tales, if they are wrong.
The first word of doubt came when Johnny Depp in the woods began to drool on another interpretation of Red Riding Hood. It looked more like a parodied scene from “Pretty Bones”, where in similar semipositions, Tucci and Ronan played out non-childish themes, rather than as a chop of a canonical plot. Come on, I thought. It showed up.
Nope. I didn't. Next, we are waiting for the chopping off of the fingers, cutting off the heel, beating giants, blinding the heroes, several unnecessary deaths and other extra-frame violence, which was very reminiscent of the Berton “Sweeney Todd”.
And the crown of all this orgy is the constant lies of heroes, betrayals and immoral adultery. What did the creators mean by that? That lust conquers sanity? What feelings to wake up? Teaching what? The fact that in the “forest”, which here appears as the personification of special life circumstances, can be changed by a loved one?
Finally, my unprepared brain was finished with the following phrase uttered by a married woman with a child - "A baby for warmth, a baker for bread, and a prince for everything else." Well, well. For more persuasiveness, a group orgy would be rolled out at the end of the film under collective singing. In the forest, you can.
The technical aspects of the film do not make sense to discuss - they are lost against the background of the immoral actions of the characters. Although the production is really good - Rob Marshall pulled out as best he could.
71% at Rotten Tomatoes, 3 Golden Globe nominations, 3 Oscar nominations. For what? For promoting violence and adultery (read free relationships). And the most insulting is not nominations for unnecessary political awards, but the fact that Pipl scavenges even such garbage and takes it for a kind and instructive film.
Disney's on a self-oh-oh-oh bottom. Kenneth Branagh, help me out!
I saw a very beautiful and organic adaptation of the musical, with songs that you want to sing, with moments that you want to watch, and subtexts that you want to think about. Yes, it runs for two hours, but now it is rare which movie goes less - and in this case I consider the timing absolutely justified, because it is not only five fairy tales, cleverly woven together, but also non-standard their denouements.
The forest here is a metaphor for life. In the forest, people fall in love and break up, cheat and naively trust, make difficult decisions and run away from responsibility. The forest presents surprises and makes you decide your fate.
In addition, in the tape a huge number of important thoughts, conveyed with or without humor, hidden or explicit. All this makes me love this film and review, revealing new secrets of the forest... that is, life.
Separately, I want to note the delightful singing and acting by Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt!

The further into the forest, the wonders of the eccentrics. . .
Before watching, I was not prepared at all - what kind of spectacle I would see, just lured by a fabulous name. Therefore, when the characters sang from the credits, my surprise crawled upwards, catching along the way the memories of the musicals watched, there are not so many of them - 'Sweeney Todd, demon-barber from Fleet Street', ' Dancing in the Dark', 'The Sound of Music' well, thanks to the unforgettable WALL-Y, 'Hello, Dolly!'
Let me tell you how it is, the motives of musicals for me are all similar, and in the same way. And the sight of the baker and his wife at the beginning, preparing pastries, and singing about their cherished desires, inspired déjà vu, reminding Sweeney Todd and his girlfriend, who also sinned at the expense of cooking and dreaming. However, Swinney Todd, or rather his incarnation of Johnny Depp, and really can be met further. To meet for a short time, but pleasantly exhilarating, because Johnny, as usual, was sweet, playful, calling and a little vicious.
The cast of fifty-fifty, that is, in my opinion, half star, half not, but it doesn’t matter, liked everyone equally. And a witch, constantly balancing on the verge of justice and his own permissiveness in the brilliant performance of Meryl Streep. And Red Riding Hood, fearlessly eating sweets on the way to the terrible forest, which is still due to childhood to unwind and unwind, but also well.
In general, the film left a pleasant impression, there is a place to smile, think and admire. Not for children, no, because the secret side is shown, which children do not listen to or hear in a fairy tale, it is clear to adults, and they judge whether they want to learn a pleasant tale of childhood in an adult way, few after all rethink, re-read fairy tales in adult publications. Some people like a child's template frozen in the brain - this is a fabulous good, but here, my dear, do not be afraid, this is evil, he will surely win.
In this story, they tell you, it's not that simple. And a good man can make a mistake, and a good cause is sometimes pursued in a vicious way, and the happy marriage of a prince and a princess after the curtain is a fiction. And death is such that there is no one to blame, and the responsibility for actions, no matter how you want to shift to others, you have to bear yourself.
That’s the break of the template offered me now the studio Disney, and if I thought it was syrup, then this film showed, – a fairy tale it is different.
The trailer for the film “Into the woods” promises magic, beauty, famous fairy-tale heroes and other pleasures associated with the Walt Disney film studio. The picture itself, the expectations given by the trailer, godlessly violates and instead gives out something that will put the unprepared viewer into a dead end, and the reputation of Disney is under big question.
In order not to be disappointed in the film, you need to prepare for it. This means at least knowing that the film is based on a well-known (in the US and UK) musical. Again, the musical. That is, in the film will sing profusely, performing not only individual songs, but also constantly chanting. But in addition, it is important to know the idea of the creators of this musical - because it not only mixes several fairy tales together, but also focuses on the "adult" problems hidden in fairy tales - such as the problems of fathers and children, problems of choice, loyalty, as well as the sexual background of children's fairy tales. Without knowing these two key points, it will be extremely difficult to get any pleasure from the film.
Most likely, to write an adequate review, it is necessary to watch the original musical, but I was not given such an opportunity, so it remains only to criticize the film itself. The script leaves many questions, because sometimes the inexplicable happens there. And if the first part of the film is more or less logical and justified, then the very existence of the second part, as well as its script, cause bewilderment. Apparently, the problem is that Disney approached the production of the film very cautiously, afraid to fully reveal the maturity of this fairy tale. It seems that the film studio really wanted to boast about the beauty of the film, and they pushed the whole meaning to the background, thereby creating a sense of incomprehensibility and understatement. Instead of clearly expressing the idea of the film, the actors rush between fabulous sweetness and real emotions, and it becomes sometimes just ridiculous to look at it.
Although at the same time to say that the actors played badly - the language does not turn. In addition to Meryl Streep, on duty nominated for an Oscar, Emily Blunt (she also knows how to sing!), James Courten, and especially Daniel Huttlestone left a good impression. He should have been nominated for an Oscar instead of Streep. And only Chris Pine gave out on the screen something inexplicable, a kind of mixture of Prince Charming with George Michael. Maybe it was intended, but I did not understand the humor.
Summing up under this film is difficult. It certainly has positive aspects - a beautiful video sequence, good acting and some interesting songs. But for some reason, the scenes of this musical, pleasant individually, do not fit into one quality story. The trailer and the movie are two different pieces. I never thought that Disney could disappoint, but in the case of “The Further Into the Woods”, he succeeded.
