This work of the popular author of erotic films and the creator of an absolutely successful horror about a cannibal on a small island has no direct relation to the Anthropophagus. This film is also not called an auto-remake like Demons 2. Rather, it’s just a horror movie on a similar theme, starring George Eastman. Only now he plays not just a cannibal who could not cope with hunger and killed his family and therefore went mad, but the result of experiments involving a mysterious priest pursuing a monster. This film clearly increased the budget, resulting in even more realistic effects, and the action takes place in a variety of locations. That’s just disappointing that Joe D’Amato decided to shoot horror in the American style, which is why he chose the usual slasher canvas, but he forgot about the atmosphere and suspense of the first Anthropophagus. And you can not enter the same river twice without inventing something new for the plot. Therefore, the second Anthropophagus does not cause delight or shock like the first. This is just a professionally shot horror of the level of slashers of the middle hand, at least the same Friday the 13th. And George Eastman has nothing to play in it, except another mutant, driven by primitive instincts.
However, sequels often do, and rarely do they get to the level of the original, like Demons 2, or even better, like the sequel to Evil Dead. Therefore, let’s not be too strict on the “continuation” of the genre masterpiece, since objectively scold the film for nothing – everything is done on conscience, as, unfortunately, rarely happens in Joe D’Amato of the 1980s. Like Jesus Franco, this director, having an unconditional talent, could not overcome his craving for strawberries, and therefore gradually degraded towards porn, which he finished in the 1990s.
