1492, Spain. The son of the Emir of Granada, Prince Ahmed, is kidnapped by the Templars. Granada was the last Arab state in Europe from 1228 to 1492. In the midst of the war of the European colonizers with the remnants of the Arab civilization, the country with each new clash more and more escapes from the hands of Ahmed’s father, Mohammed XII. Against the backdrop of a ferocious war between two civilizations, an invisible war is underway, confrontation is growing in the shadows, between the top of the Templar Order on the one hand and the Assassin Order on the other. Assassins are not fiction. Authoritative foreign scholars confirm that such an order in ancient times really existed and acted as a special service of that time – physically eliminating undesirable elements of the enemy, committing contract killings and the like. But did the Assassins commit murder simply for gold coins, or did they serve a higher purpose? One does not interfere with the other, history has been rewritten many times, which means that nothing is true, any interpretation of events is permissible.
The apple of discord, both literally and figuratively, was an ancient artifact created either by a previous civilization or by God Himself, within which lies the secret of the human genetic code responsible for free will. You do not need to be a polymath to remember and understand who most of all wanted to take away people’s free will – the Devil himself. In pursuit of world domination, the modern Templars decided at all costs to complete the mission of their ancestors, finding the ill-fated artifact, which had high hopes. As always, evil is done under the pretext of religion. French actress Marion Cotillard perfectly played the image of Sofia, an innocent sheep in captivity of her idealistic beliefs, playing the role of the daughter of the main villain, who invented the animus – a device that allows you to synchronize the mind of a modern person with the memories of his distant ancestor. Finding the DNA of the descendants of those assassins who participated in the bloody events of 1492, the poor man was first collected in a secret prison right in the center of the city, and then one by one connected to the animus, in the hope of obtaining information about the current location of the artifact.
I repent, I did not play the computer game of the same name, so I am spared the need to compare the action film with the gameplay of the Assasin Creed series. Perhaps this is for the best, since I can evaluate this film simply as a fantastic action movie, comparing it with similar movies. The first time I saw Assassin’s Creed, I wasn’t particularly impressed, it seemed too short. But by chance, after watching the film for the second time (so the stars came together), I changed my mind, suddenly realizing that “Killer’s Creed” is cooler than all the “Princes of Persia” and others. Why would I say that? For three reasons.
First, the film looks realistic, and what happens under certain conditions may well happen someday, because who knows what technologies are hidden from human eyes and are at the disposal of secret societies and governments, especially the Vatican.
Secondly, the very topic touched upon in the film, today is the most relevant, because it is not for nothing from the roofs of now already modern houses literally from every corner look tacitly ugly antennas installed not the Internet to distribute. The problems of the struggle for free will are found in many films, where light fights darkness, good fights fascism. Suffice it to recall the series of films “Hunger Games”, but “Assassin’s Creed” is distinguished by the entourage of bloody battles against the backdrop of majestic buildings of medieval Europe in the rays of the setting sun... it is noteworthy that the construction of an ancient cathedral five hundred years ago is shown! Hand-to-hand in the building under construction reminded one of the parts about James Bond with Daniel Craig, and is it true that the main character Callum Lynch is not John Wick and James Bond in the same bottle? Religious men are once again shown as fascists, assassins as fighters for humanity. But humanity is not in the primitive sense to which we are all used. And in the understanding of yin-yang and preventing the domination of the most fascist elements of world history - the Inquisition, in any of its manifestations, seeking to enslave the consciousness of all others.
Third, the film conveys a sound message that wedges are being kicked out and that not all people deserve to live. Oh, yeah, Michael Fassbender in the role of the key assassin of history is a hit in the 10th. I can’t imagine anyone who would be better suited to this role.

While others seek the truth, remember that nothing is true. As long as others live within rules and morals, remember, everything is allowed.
- You give it to them.
- No, I'll eat it.
One day, my friends and I were playing 'crocodile' and I had to gesture to explain the word 'credo'. Believe me, it was extremely difficult. I tried to explain the word through this film, and in the end it turned out that one of his friends watched and guessed it.
In fact, the Assassin’s Creed series of computer games is chic, and when he shot the film 'Assassin's Creed', it was very, very tempting to watch it. The trailer seemed cool, and the cast was super led by handsome Michael Fassbender.
The director 'Killer Creed' Australian Justin Kurzel personally remembered the film 'Snow City' for all my life. A movie based on real events about a terrible homophobe and his gang shocked the whole world. When you see this movie, you will never forget it.
Such films of this director as '13 Moments of Life' (I didn’t like the film) or the film adaptation ' Macbeth' (also with Fassbender) turned out to be, in my opinion, too gloomy. Shakespeare is difficult to film, and there is a matter of taste, but this film ' Macbeth & #39; not for me. There is much more successful and better film adaptation of this famous novel.
Right now, we're looking at Justin Kurzel's biggest, most ambitious project and, as it turned out, the most loudly failed. With interest I once began to watch ' Assassin's Creed', but this film I absolutely did not like. I will try to explain why.
The future, and technology does not stand still. It is now possible to recall memories of past generations. The main character of the story Callum manages to learn that he is a descendant of members of the mysterious secret society of the so-called assassins. A man will have to accumulate a lot of strength and knowledge to declare war on this cruel and incredibly powerful organization. . .
39 We have tried for centuries to eradicate dissent, war, religion and consumerism. Isn't it time to give science a chance? '
An expensive blockbuster, because a lot of money was spent on it. The cast is outstanding, and together with Fassbender we again see the French beauty Marion Cotillard. The film is played by such famous and respected actors as Jeremy Irons and Charlotte Rampling. So what didn't work? At first glance, there are so many strengths in the picture. . .
The fact is that the direction is extremely weak, and it is clearly felt. Justin Kurzel failed to firmly take the film adaptation into a fist and put everything coolly on the shelves. Honestly, it's porridge. The film is made without a soul, and after half of it and do not want to watch. You force yourself to watch this dubious film adaptation and only because of the actors.
The ending killed me. The whole movie felt like we were headed for something cool, but the ending was banal, simple and stupid. This movie is like an expensive fake or an unpleasant candy that you chew, chew and for some reason do not spit out.
No matter how cool Michael and all the other actors played, their performance is hidden behind the weak direction and dullness of the film. And this is the kind of movie that is lifeless.
I would not dare to advise anyone to watch this controversial film, well, unless people are very fond of blockbusters.
'Assassin's Creed' is a fantastic, action-adventure action movie of 2016. The result, loud, failed movie, and no matter how much you look for positive aspects in it, still the picture is weak and unfinished. I tell her 'no'
Something's not true. Anything is allowed. I believe)
The film adaptation of video games is a problematic topic of cinema. Game franchise studio Ubisoft & #39; Assassin's Creed & #39; is popular to this day. The story of each character in a particular part or element of the franchise is a bit secondary, but still interesting. The studio itself decided that it was ripe for a full-fledged film adaptation because in addition to the games, comics and short films were released, and at that time another part called ' Syndicate' was released (I liked the story of Ivy and Jacob Fry in general). It would seem a generous budget to create, the trailers anticipated a little, the cast in the face of Fassbender, Cotillard, Irons and even Gleason pleased no less. But the problem was an inexperienced director who, apart from a couple of little-known mid-range films, did not shoot anything. I will describe the impressions and essence of what is happening based on the study of the game franchise and the opinion will be controversial, for some spoilers I apologize in advance.
The plot begins with the initiation into the brotherhood of a recruit named Agillar de Nerja, whose action takes place in the XV century during the Spanish Inquisition. And the initiation itself looks rather strange: firstly, given the next situation with the local Templars, the local brotherhood pulled rubber instead of a superficial solution to the problem so that in the future there was less trouble; secondly, the cutting off of the ring finger, yes, it was like a tribute to the traditions of 300 years ago, but according to the events of the second part of the game Leonardo da Vinci gave Ezio an improved blade and a finger was not needed because the events of the game occurred a little earlier than the events of the film.
Well, come on, then we are introduced to a descendant of Agillar called Callum Lynch and did not have time to carefree spend time as a man in a hood with a sticking blade (part-time father Callum) kills his mother, and he escapes. And it takes many years for Lynch to prepare for the death penalty for the murder of a pimp. It's game. Lynch finds himself in a state-of-the-art corporation ' Abstergo' and is asked to assist in their cause, and in return he will be entitled to a new life. Will the hero want to help them, knowing who they are and what their goals are? That's the movie. I'll share my impressions.
The advantages of this picture are high-quality acrobatic and combat scenes and without unnecessary dialogue, the visual component of the era of the Spanish Inquisition also looks good, the cast is pleasant. The main drawback is the non-canonical nature of the game series. The film does not reveal who Lynch's ancestor was, what was in Agillar's past life, and does not reveal any special qualities of the ancestor. The employees of the corporation themselves are shown as complete idiots who hold a bunch of ancestors of professional killers and do not have a firearm because in case of rebellion, it will be possible to suppress it quickly. The animus from the film is a big sin because instead of comfortable chairs with immersion in sleep showed some manipulator, which to achieve the goal will seem unreliable. The new idea of the apple of Eden or Eden is also not canon.
And in the end ' Assassin's Creed' not a canonical film for people familiar with games, but curious for a person who did not play any of the parts. Personally, I had a so-after watching the movie I studied the games and left a mixed feeling. I can blame the film for its flaws, but that’s no reason to praise it for its merits. It's a pity that the director with great potential blew everything out of inexperience.
“Assassin’s Creed” is a rather popular series of computer games from Ubisoft studio, based on the centuries-old confrontation between the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templar Order. The series has generated a huge fan base, and this franchise, in addition to games, includes thematic additions, comics, books, short films. Millions of fans were waiting for the film about their favorite universe.
I went to the cinema and spent money on it. And for me, it was like going to a paid toilet and looking at a uniformly stained toilet. Yes, a computer game is much more difficult to transfer to the big screen than the story from the book, but in this case the creators have a choice: either fully show the events of the game and then the fans will be satisfied, or write an original story focused on the mass viewer, making references to the original. Filmmakers go for the most part the second way, which is why most of the film adaptations of the games are unsuccessful.
The story of the film in no way overlaps with the game series, although it contains the main details-hooks, referring to the universe of Assassin’s Creed. There is a man who is sentenced to death, but after "death" he is handed over to a certain corporation "Abstergo". Abstergo is studying historical reports about a super-duper artifact "Apple of Eden". And the main character they need, as his ancestor belonged to the assassins and was the last to hold the Apple in his hands. With the help of a machine codenamed “Animus”, the character will have to jump 500 years ago to learn the life story of his ancestor Aguilar.
Ubisoft put its consultant to the filmmakers, so that the film adaptation turned out to be at least tolerable. Apparently, the company “20 Century Cox” regularly soldered this consultant, as a result of which the entire original concept was twisted and the potential was squandered. Budget 125 million, in the cast of famous persons — Michael Fassbender, Marillon Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, even Brendan Gleeson stuck. And I’m not going to put pressure on the actors, they play well, but according to the lines spoken, they are like jambs on jambs. In the field of motivation, the characters are straight masters of sports in shoes - once, the main character does not want to have anything to do with what is happening, two - and he is eagerly imbued with the fight against the Templars. Marillon Cotillard is represented by a great scientist, but at the same time says that the purpose of her study is to eradicate violence in the world. Plus, she does not seem to accept the ideology of Abstergo, but closer to the end she transforms into an ardent supporter. Speaking of "Abstergo."
The Evil Corporation with a speaking name (translated as “cleansing”) is represented by a branch of the Templar Order. In pursuit of the artifact, the company’s employees fished a bunch of descendants of assassins, “interrogated” them all in the Animus, some turned into “vegetables”, and ... kept them with them, regularly fed and kept in special conditions, while allowing them to gather together and discuss the possibility of rebellion. Show me the genius who designed this security system. And in general, on which Order surrendered some artifact that does not exist? Judging by REN-TV reports, the Templars are no weaker than Freemasons and Reptilians, is it simply impossible to control the layer of humanity? You have a billion-dollar corporation! In our world, there are companies that, through simple manipulations, profit from human idiocy, forcing some people every year to change the model of the phone, increasing the price for the same functionality in arithmetic progression. What prevents a thousand-year-old organization from organizing something like this?
The main feature of the series of games was the historical component. We were immersed in the surrounding atmosphere, could interact with historical personalities, and in principle, "Assassin's Creed" can be considered a textbook. The second part was devoted to Renaissance Italy, the third to the American War of Independence. How much material did the Ubisoft team learn to bring it all into play? When Notre Dame Cathedral burned down, the studio said they had spent two years studying Notre Dame, recreating it in great detail, and they were ready to hand over the blueprints for reconstruction. In the film, there is no historical segment left NI-FI-GA. Only 25% of the timekeeping takes place in 15th century Spain and is regularly interrupted by modern events. And what happens in the past is aged in a grayish scale and necessarily more smoke. Well, that's what we've been waiting for in a film about historical killers.
Seriously, I was only interested in acting and parkour scenes, which were also important features of the game series. Well, it's good that in the film on the game from Ubisoft there are no lags and texture problems. Everything else was mediocre at best. After such a film adaptation “under close supervision from the studio” and scandals in which Ubisoft is mired, the statement that the company’s logo “looks like a superimposed pile, a view from above” is perceived not as a joke, but as fact.
Screening, as book works of classical or modern, and objects of the gaming industry, is not a simple matter and is easily criticized on often insignificant grounds, addressed to the authors of the film adaptation by fans of the book or game, who want to see the highest quality transfer of the object of their sympathy and passion on film screens, and therefore we can often read aggressive reviews against even representatives of the shrines of cinema' Russian man - Soviet cinema, in which, when filming adaptations of classical novels, they sometimes allowed themselves liberties not weaker than Hollywood, which is not criticized in this part. Films on computer games and at all receive a huge number of claims, since it is impossible to put in two hours of film timing all the important elements that accompany gamers in the gameplay, which makes directors cut almost more information than you have to omit when transferring events from a volume of 500 pages. Nevertheless, viewers who relate to everything simpler, are able to evaluate the work of film workers adequately and make a discount on various nuances. So, a good criticism and ratings received the film adaptation of the game ' Prince of Persia' in which ' stuck' all schoolchildren and young people, boiling with blood during the passage of amazing adventures in an ancient country, where, according to the plot of the game, the atmosphere of epic fantasy reigns with an abundance of various elements of the mythical direction - although strict criticism did not bypass this adaptation, and from the words of the game fans it is clear that the film conveyed only part of the chic ' toys' but there was no such indignation and distinction from the computer game, thanks to those who know the project. Unlike the movie hit of 2010, which, although not completely conveyed all the boundless epicity and romance of the game hit, but for all viewers who do not keep game accessories at home due to age or lack of interest in virtual exploits, it was quite a decent and impressive fantasy-fighter, which can be watched by the whole family; the long-awaited and promising, judging by the trailer, the film adaptation & #39; Assassin' most took the bayonets quite rightly. Feelings of fans of the game, which is no less cult entertainment than 'Prince of Persia', can be literally called insulted, but the viewer, who is not a gamer, did not see anything interesting, exciting or striking in this film.
The beginning of the film looks quite typical for the standard fantasy fighter in the spirit of ' Indiana Jones' and ' The Mummy': the action takes place in medieval Spain, where at that time the Templar Order and the Assassin clan competed, and the apple of discord for them was, of course, a powerful artifact, which, incidentally, bears the name 'The Apple of Eden'. The first scene shows a gathering of Assassins who plan actions against the Templars, claiming that the latter are inherently tyrants. The Assassins plan to kidnap the son of the emir, who is under siege, and as a ransom to demand the surrender of the city, and with it the artifact. Then the action is transferred to 1986, where we will show how the one who will become the main character of the film, as a boy and living in Mexico, studied the art of parkour, although he was not very lucky in this case, but this is small compared to the fact that after another failure, almost turned into serious injuries, he returns home, sees a murdered mother, and a person who tells him about a mission and advises him to run away from home to save himself. 30 years pass, and without explaining anything about what happened to the hero all these years, we are shown how he goes to the death penalty, but it turns out that his death is only formally recorded, and in fact the incredible happened: the hero finds himself in medieval Spain. He wakes up in a twenty-first-century building disguised as a medieval entourage, where he is told he has been chosen for a special mission. He is attached to a machine with which he will have to perform missions in Spain in the fifteenth century, in the process of which he will feel as if he really lives everything he does, being connected to this mechanism. The first mission will be to save defenseless civilians from the Templar tyranny. The hero is not jokingly afraid of what is happening to him, and aggressively behaves, demanding to explain to him how this is possible, who these people are, and what they need. It turns out that Kyle is the chosen one because his distant ancestor was an Assassin, and Kyle is not the only one who is now repeating the exploits of his ancestor of this origin. Kyle had a difficult childhood, he dreamed of avenging his father for the murder of his mother, he killed a pimp, for which he was executed - according to the searchers for the Apple of Eden, who mined him with the hands of the descendants of Assassins, such a person is an ideal killing machine, although they also believe that all people are born violent. . .
Due to the lack of full information about what is happening and the spontaneity of each action, without explaining everything that happened after the previous fragment before the onset (even when 30 years have passed between them in chronology), the film can be called similar to the Russian craftsmanship ' Crimea', taking into account the same shortcomings. Of course, everything is not so run, there are worthy scenes, especially in the plot stages until the middle of the film, after which a very dull spectacle begins, where, despite the huge budget spent and the use of 3D technology, the viewer will not be pleased even with good action and special effects, and the screen will create complete darkness. The scene with the dinner, where the hero ordered one, and he was brought another, recalled a similar episode from 'Islands' Michael Bay; the principle of operating the mechanism for performing active missions resembled similar elements from 'Avatar' and 'Pacific Rim' The actor in the title role on some episodes resembles Jason Statham, and on others - Tom Cruise. But the point is not in plagiarism from the super hits of the genre of fiction, but in the fact that the film completely killed everything interesting that was in the source, which captured the hearts of millions of hot boys around the world. My friend on Kinopoisk, who played in 'Assassin's Creed', declares the same. The trailer of the film set up a quite drive-adventure action movie, maybe without a huge amount of computer graphics, but with an abundance of beautiful locations and acts of parkour in the scenery of medieval Spain (a chic country about which I would like to see an interesting movie, not this misunderstanding), but it was a deception from talentless figures of cinema to lure people to the cinema. As a result, I am happy to hear the Spanish speech in the first scene without translation (this scene is translated only in subtitles). But was it worth watching a blanket stretched for almost two hours?

I love the Assassin’s Creed series. The franchise has long become a cult in the gaming industry, and everyone who at least occasionally picks up a gamepad or puts his fingers on WASD has heard about the confrontation between assassins and Templars. Of course, I was waiting for the film adaptation of the famous series, but I waited with concern - there were not so many really good adaptations of video games. And so “Assassin’s Creed” still came out – and could not meet even moderate expectations.
The plot is nothing interesting - this is a classic story for the series about the Apple of Eden - an artifact of the First Civilization, which is eager to grab into their hands the evil Templars to suppress human will. The Assassins, of course, must prevent them. It’s funny that even by the standards of games, the local story is very weak. The Templars are shown here as absolute evil, and the Assassins as absolute good, although in the franchise there were cases when both sides of the eternal conflict at least tried to give some gray morality, to show that the Templars in general want the best, and the Assassins are not so harmless. But no, the main conflict here is simple as a stick.
The narrative also raises questions. It is uneven, inconsistent, ragged, and concentrates completely on the wrong thing. Most of the timekeeping is occupied by events in the present time, and it is not particularly interesting to look at it, especially when on the other hand - Spain during the Inquisition.
On the positive side, I can mention the caste. Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons are not the last in Hollywood, and have long proven themselves to be excellent works. The problem is they have nothing to play here. The characters are flat, uninteresting, devoid of any bright individuality. Except that Fassbender had somewhere to turn around, even if he was terribly overplaying in places, but at least it looked funny.
The action isn't good either. Local action scenes are quite well staged in terms of choreography, but for the most part disgustingly filmed and edited. Incomprehensible camera angles, too close-ups during fights, frequent jumps from one angle to another - looking at the minting is sometimes just unpleasant, it is not impressive.
For the good, I liked the very original Animus and the scenes in the past that were very authentic and atmospheric.
What's the result? “Assassin’s Creed” is not as bad a movie as you might imagine from this review. He's looking out, but nothing more. He disappointed even me, as a big fan of the series, and people from the outside and not much to catch.
All my thoughts were expressed by Fassbender himself: “What the fuck is this?”

From the producer’s point of view, this project seemed perfect. The future. A little dystopian. Prison. A journey into the past. Middle Ages. Europe. The Inquisition. Secret societies. A new understanding of historical facts. A glimpse into the mystery of one family and a look at Assassin society. It had to be very spectacular. Not that - 'Time Bandits', not that - '12 monkeys'. This cycle of events suggested a special intellectual shade of the tape.
But the creators did not seem to be able to decide what the film should be. It balances between a historical aesthetic extravaganza and the most ordinary action movie. There is no clear answer to how the film turned out. He is like a trembling scale, balancing one way or the other. Each extreme completely eliminates the other. In the action drive, the historical canvas is lost, and the intricacies of alternative history do not fit in with constant fights. In such uncertain tremors, several really successful moments appear. Here's a battered Fassbender being dragged around, and he's brashly singing a famous tune. But here is his final passage - the secret mystery ends in the most unexpected way. Here's my dad. Brendan Glisson gives an unexpected in its effectiveness output. He's really good here.
But overall, this is not enough to recognize this film as a success. It happens. The direction is correct, but the tape almost reaches. It's too bland. There is too much desire to please everyone. The film is completely immersed in all this
What to do in the summer on a well-deserved vacation or vacation? Watch movies and play games that have long been dusting in a long drawer. This summer, from this very box, I extracted the game Assassin's Creed.
And here we go. After three consecutive games, I decided to watch the movie. I remember how massively it was advertised, how all the feints with the ears of Fassbender were mesmerized, not to mention the ‘Jump of Faith’ 39. But in the movie I did not go to it - with the game was unfamiliar and decided that I do there in this case, nothing. I finally saw it two years after it came out. To be honest, I don’t fully understand why he was criticized.
Yeah, he doesn't shine with special delights. Yes, it’s not like in the game, when almost all the action takes place in the past – here most of the time is devoted to the present. But it still looks interesting. I didn’t notice any logical holes in the plot, perhaps because I just got acquainted with the whole universe and may not know anything else. But I still don’t understand why this film was so attacked.
Why did people love the series of games Assassin's Creed? For the historical component, in which the plot with assassins was woven, for the amazing beauty of the world and the incredible physical capabilities of the main characters. Is that not in the movie? It's full. The same struggle between the Assassins and the Templars, the same mythical Apple of Eden, the same world - except that the heroes are different (but the old ones are present or mentioned). So what else do you need?
Now to the actors. Marion Cotillard I don't really like it, but here she was pretty convincing. Riding between her faith in her own business and her father’s, she eventually found herself at a crossroads and chose the wrong side. But watching her was interesting. Jeremy Irons generally adore, a brilliant man, watching him was just a pleasure. But who really broke away in this film to the fullest, it is Fassbender. He trained great for this role of an assassin, and watching the adventures of his heroes was cool.
To sum up, I will say that, probably, real fans of this world, who have come all the way with assassins since the release of the first game, will have something to find fault with in this film. Most likely, many were waiting for the adaptation of any of the games or as competently composed as the games, the story, and found in this film any inconsistencies. As a new person, I did not find any special flaws in him. For me, everything looked interesting, colorful and delicious. Thank you very much to the whole team.
The cast is on top. I really missed the movie. I like everything.
The hero of Michael Fassbender is a hereditary killer. In an amazing physical form, a man. One day he is kidnapped by a research institute, and with the help of special equipment he is put into a coma to learn about the past of his distant ancestor, who lived in Spain in 1492. It was he who saw the miraculous Apple of Eden, which allows you to control the will of man and is an artifact for assassins and Templars. And here we go. Past lives, memory of blood, ancestors in hoods, tattooed faces of colleagues in the slaughterhouse. If the writers had added some hilarious stories from the life of the Assassin Guild in Pratchett's novels, there would have been no price for this movie. But where is the Flat World, and where is the universe of Assassin's Creed? It would have been more complicated, as in The Da Vinci Code. But it is not harmful to dream.
The expression of Michael Fassbender’s eyes and the smacking of Jeremy Irons’ thin lips can be watched endlessly. Cherry lipstick Marion Cotillard suits her very well, Charlotte Rampling is incomparably beautifully ageing. What do these women eat? 500 calories a day like a ballet school girl? And from the roofs, how the heroes jump and run on linen ropes - a look!
Very beautiful picture. Eye feast. I wanted to go to Malta, to these pink and yellow brick houses. And keep Michael Fassbender around. He's skinny, of course. Feed him Spanish paella. They were out there in Hollywood on these vegan diets. Jeremy Irons makes great villains. These brown eyes, an aristocratic image, an attractive fleur of vice, noble gray hair - with such a person is not ashamed to walk around Montmartre!
It's a recreational movie. It looks good, I don’t want to quit in ten minutes. Famous actors for every taste. A few familiar faces from your favorite series will also meet you. Interesting. And where is this magical prison-hotel Abstergo Industries, where you can order any kind of food? I want to leave my job there.
With film adaptations of video games, Hollywood has always had difficulties, so you could hardly expect anything more from the film adaptation of Assassin's Creed than another strong blockbuster. At the exit - it remains happy that at least professionals took up the adaptation of the game, and not some Uwe Ball.
The movie didn't work, though. There are many shoals in the picture, and of the indisputable merits you can mention the cute visual series and spectacular action with all sorts of chases (which in the constant smoke screen is not always possible to see), fights, delightful parkour and the legendary Jump of Faith, which has become the most dangerous trick in modern cinema. More or less colorfully we were shown the possibilities of this miracle invention of the Animus, although these monotonous interiors of the prison, in which the Templars put experiments on assassins, closer to the middle of the timekeeping are boring. The action turned out to be confused, constantly hesitatingly interrupted by the end of the session of the hero’s stay in Aguilar’s shoes – as a result, in the past we should not enjoy the action that the game was famous for, and in the future we will not be shown the long-awaited confrontation between the Assassins and the Templars of today, who, for example, the second part of the game series was scored. That's just who is waiting for a bright action episode in the finale, will definitely break down - I have not seen more stupid behavior on the part of the Templar guards.
Beautiful plans wrapped in the haze of medieval Spain (the atmosphere is still created), steel walls (where the main action of the tape takes place, which also disappointed) landscapes of night London of the XXI century in the final. Well, about the factual errors like the Negroes and Asians, who are descendants of the Assassin Brotherhood, which arose in ancient Iran, or the Heliks in the modern body kit, which the Templars ride in the eighties, perhaps there is no point in saying this kind of trifles in American cinema in bulk. The idea of a “violence gene” that humans inherit from their Assassin ancestors is also delusional.
The script of the film is not very elaborate. A person who is not familiar with the game will not understand why this Apple of Eden is necessary, what its value is, how it affects the free will of a person. Moreover, this is not explained or demonstrated to us during the course of the film. It feels like the Templars and Assassins are stupidly chasing some iron pebble that just doesn’t represent anything, but they believe it’s magical. In addition, the motivation of the main characters is incomprehensible: first, the main character runs from orderlies all over the base, fearing for his life and health after time travel sessions, and after a few seconds he himself bursts into the Animus. Or the main character who contradicts herself in the final. And these inept hints of a romantic line between Aguilar and Maria (as a result, it is absolutely impossible to worry about the characters) - was it impossible to develop the line of their relationship in favor of the dramatic component of the film, it would benefit the images of the characters, and the timing would not spoil (the film was already short).
Michael Fassbender in the title role was not impressed, the usual protagonist of an ordinary blockbuster, in places successfully made up as an Arab. It is not the actor’s fault that he has nothing to play in this film. I liked Ariana Labed’s cute face, but nothing more. Playing such a passionate woman in their past collaboration 'Macbeth', Marion Cotillard here gives out a gray mouse-scientist with questionable motivation (' a cure for violence'?? What nonsense! The tandem of Cotillard and Fassbender, unlike the same Macbeth, in which they had not only a sensual bed scene, but also the brightest dramatic scenes, here absolutely does not give anything. It seems that each of the actors of the project is a kind of character-function, which is needed only to move a weak plot forward. Including villains. Jeremy Irons and Charlotte Rampling fit into the villainous images of the Templar leaders, mostly characteristically sighing and rolling their eyes. But they were here only so that the main character had someone to fight, although again, in fact, the whole film he fights with various “bots”-knights from the past, throwing them left and right, then for some reason saving an unknown child, then looking for a magic pebble. Even the cut prologue of the film “Especially Dangerous” with members of the ancient Brotherhood of Assassins conveys the atmosphere of Assassin’s Creed better than the adaptation of the game.
'Killer's Creed' as an independent film work did not turn out completely: only fans of the game will understand what is happening on the screen, and contradictory characters are not revealed completely. As a mediocre blockbuster movie looks tolerable, but to launch the franchise certainly will not.

Yeah, another negative review! I'm watching this movie right now, and no film has ever made me feel like this before - one is solid ' facepalm' My friend and I wrote the script better in sixth grade. I’m not going to say how lifeless Cotillard is, how Ironside is nothing, or how the girls write here (even in negative reviews – yes, I’ve read almost every hundred reviews) how Fassbender flexes his muscles. I will not say how it is shown ' cardboard' future (it had to be removed altogether), incomprehensible ending ... it's all nonsense. But one thing killed me the most - 'Animus' Guys! What do you mean? Huge ' arm ' dragging GG in all directions? Real blades on your hands? I want to ask you, what did the writer watch besides Divergents and the likes of him? Cartoons? Yes, drag you by the belt without any additional attachments, not only will your legs fail for half a day, but the insides will cease to function. Why did you need such a vision of this device? It's the future! Enter the patient into sleep (hybernation, coma), and turn off the part of the brain responsible for movement, which in our dreams itself shuts down so that we do not walk when we dream. That's it! And do some sort of virtual reality, everything! I don't need anything else. Last but not least, scenes in the past were more or less normal, but they were childishly stupid. Butter barrels for execution? Pfft. No crossbowmen on the same execution while burning high-risk killers? Who might have a lot of accomplices. No, you haven't. Hairstyles in the 15th century as if the Spaniards every day go to the hairdresser, and everything below the top shave? No, we don't know. And one of them had some kind of Iroquois... (This is all from the series Vikings went, well, did not cut their hair like that, neither the Vikings, nor the Varangians, nor the Spaniards.)
As a result, Fassbender 1 point, for what he tried, and 1 for errands on the walls.

The world has been waiting for this film adaptation for 5 years, since the moment Ubisoft said that they would like to put a film based on the game about the assassin. But back in year 11, something went wrong. So far, the idea has not been literally saved by Fassbender's company. He also recruited the entire team of the film, including the actors and director.
Although the script is original, but it is impossible to completely insulate from the original source.
In the frame Callum Lynch-thief, who was sentenced to death and who later ' saved ' some organization ' Abstergo' possessing technologies capable of recalling memories of distant ancestors.
The story turned out to be easier than visualizing the entire action. Succulent and quite decent general plans, scenes of hand-to-hand fights and beloved chases on the Spanish walls from the crowd of Templars significantly pull on the blanket, winning the so-called dialogues. Probably for the best.
We are going to this movie for the sake of the action.
Why? The music is good, the cast is decent and beautiful assassin - expectations are justified. No pig squeal, for once, but one good time.
Watch the movie correctly.
The main problem with this film is that it is not for fans of the game. Yeah, there's parkour, crown moves and tricks, like a game. But the film was entrusted to the director who had previously shot the classics ' Macbeth' according to Shakespeare's work, respectively, this film resembled a film adaptation of literary classics rather than a film adaptation of the game.
Yes, the story itself is long and ineffective, but there is some beauty in this work. For example, an excellent selection of actors - this and Michael Fasebender, Marion Katiyar, Jeremy Irons. I personally also liked the actor playing one of the negative characters, the one who fought in the finale of the film with Aguilar.
A very impressive plot with a speech in Spanish of the heroes of the past, it also brings a certain highlight to the film, gives us a deeper dive into the atmosphere of medieval Spain.
Again, the film lacked action. Most of the film, the characters are looking for themselves, trying to dig into their soul, which is not typical of films of this genre.

I’ll explain right away that I played games and I understand the mythology and the plot. And I also cannot understand how you can not understand the plot of the film even without playing, because it is chewed absolutely and enough to enter the world of assassins and Templars, although of course not as detailed as in the game. What is completely understandable, to accommodate in 2 hours the worked out world is impossible.
As many critics have stated in the film, little time is devoted to Aguilar's story - and rightly so. A movie is not a game. I've always complained that there's too little time in games for the modern world. And to attribute this to the shortcomings is at least ridiculous.
The plot is built logically and consistently, the actions of the characters are reasoned and understandable, which is now often lacking in action films. The hero is absolutely not flat, he is revealed, his rebelliousness and further acceptance of the Creed are clearly shown, after the ancestor’s life moments have lived.
The animus is great - that's what it should have been in the game. Nothing will give such synchronization as the simultaneous work of the body and brain. In the game, the Animus technology is not described and flushed down the toilet. I woke up in a virtual world.
The film is also a joy for the eyes. The magnificent views and spans, the well-chosen range in Spanish episodes, and the moderately futuristic rigor of the laboratory give a great contrast. Magnificent staging of combat movements, whippy, sharp and deadly, as befits the assassins.
Of course, there are shortcomings, they are not few. The plot could be tightened, but a lot of conventions are clearly transferred with love from the game. Well, not playing could hint at the creators of Apple.
Well, in my humble opinion - this is the best adaptation of the game existing at the moment.

2017 opens with probably the worst movie I've seen. Can anyone say that the movie is only for fans of the series? No way. Logically, they had to simultaneously please fans of the series, and people who know nothing about the history of the world of assassins, and explain in simple language what and how. They didn't do either. One of the main drawbacks is that the main events of the film take place in the building of the Abstergo Corporation, and for this, to be honest, it is not at all interesting to watch. In all games of the series, the main plot always takes place in different historically settings, and what happened in the corporation was given a minimum of time, and thus there was more information. There was a balance between these games. He's not here. Even the presence of Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard does not save this picture. Watching it all is boring.
Of the pluses, this is of course a fight, they certainly tried with it, even the same leap of faith brought. Also interesting came up with animus, what was in the games is still not suitable for cinema, too passive.
As a result, the creators ruined a very cool idea from which you could make a very cool franchise. I don’t know what they thought when they made the film. Very disappointed.
The first thing to say here is that I’ve played almost every Assassin's Creed game and I can call myself a fan. Like many of you, I wanted to make a movie in this series. And one day we found out that this was going to happen.
That was great news. But man is a creature of doubt. Many people knew that Hollywood rarely made decent movies on computer games. Someone called it a curse. It’s strange – the fingers of one hand are enough to list good adaptations. You know, there was hope that thanks to the #39 Killer's Creed #39, you could bend another finger. This was prompted by emerging news: about a strong cast, director ' Macbeth' Justin Kurzel, etc. However, many were afraid for the script, because it was necessary to time the whole game (the passage of the plot can take 20-30 hours) to put in one film.
When it became known that the film will be a new story, which was not in the games, the timing will be 2 hours, about 40% of the film will take place in the past (in Assassin's Creed this time is much more), some thought (as I did). Is it going to be a good movie? Will I be able to bend another finger when counting worthy adaptations? On January 5, 2017, when the #39 Killer Creed was released, I went to see it, and it became clear to me that I could bend about 65% of my finger (just over half). Why? Let me explain everything in order.
Plot, script. The main character Callum Lynch for murder is sentenced to death. But actually, execution is a staging. Some organization 'Abstergo' interested in Callum. Now he is in a building and is forced to interact with the device Animus, which allows you to relive the memories of his ancestor Aguilar, a Spaniard who lived in the 15th century. During this, the hero will reveal various secrets about two ancient rival orders: the Templars and Assassins. Sooner or later, Cal must find out who he is and fight back against his enemy.
Since the film is divided into 2 parts (the present and the past), I will tell you about each one separately.
The present. At first, the film seems interesting. The idea of violence genes, the animus hand, the first synchronization, some jokes that dilute the very grim atmosphere. And then it all goes down ' it goes down ' Why is that?
First, the writers seem to have forgotten that if you open up the characters well, then watching the movie will be more interesting. They didn't do that. We don’t learn anything about the protagonist except his childhood story. Not Sofia, not her father. Absolutely no one. Sorry.
Secondly, most dialogues are completely uninteresting and monotonous.
Third, the apple of Eden. He made all the boron cheese. However, the viewer does not explain exactly what it should do. Why are you running after him? Is it really that from this little ball began to stand out some green energy, which is absolutely not needed for anything? In the game, this point is explained. Not in the movie.
Fourth, escape from ' Abstergo'. Many people have said this, I repeat: the guards only use batons in battle. I would not believe that such a global corporation did not have firearms, honestly.
As I said above, the film has a very dark atmosphere. Also, when I saw the movie, you know, I thought everybody was bad. And the Templars, who by any means wanted to achieve their goal, and the Assassins, who by any means (murder among them) wanted to prevent their enemies. It's a little unusual. But it was a plus for me. After all, there are no absolutely evil people and absolutely good ones. Of course, there are exceptions, but they are not presented here.
Past. There are few scenes in the past - just three visits to the animus. But I liked that part of the movie. In the past, there are hints of a good plot; the fights are very cool (though the lack of blood, where it was needed, a little tense), beautiful views of 15th-century Spain, as well as Spanish, which everyone spoke in the past (this helped create the right atmosphere). Parkour also did not cause complaints.
The main problem of the film is in the script. Honestly, if it had been better, the film would have been better. Unfortunately, that is what it is.
Actor's play. Michael Fassbender In all the films I watched with him, he played very well. ' Assassin's Creed' no exception. The fear of execution and the realization of the end, the anger at his father, the lack of understanding of what is happening - all these emotions Michael plays just fine. The same can be said for Jeremy Irons and Brendan Gleeson. And for Marion Cotillard, I'm kind of offended. She played the role of Sophia. I don’t know what that has to do with it.
Music. Those who have played Assassin's Creed know that in many games in the series, one of the strengths is music. A lot of people thought, would this be a movie? Fortunately, that turned out to be true. Composer Jed Kurzel managed to create the music that skillfully complemented the atmosphere. And I must say that after watching I have repeatedly listened to the soundtrack to the film.
The visual component. She was, I think, at a high level. Action scenes, both past and present, have been spectacular.
What happened in the end? To be honest, 'The Assassin's Creed' is not the worst computer game movie. He is closer to the middle of the list on the top. The picture is trying to be better, but the weak scenario, unfortunately, does not allow it.
According to a representative of Ubisoft (the creator of the game series), this film is needed to familiarize people with games. But you know, sometimes a movie can make such an impression that then you not only do not want to play the game, but even remember the movie itself will be disgusting. So be careful: if you want to learn something about the game, then the film is best watched last.
After watching the movie, I was able to make a positive impression. But the minuses left their mark. Will I wait for the sequel? Yeah. You know, Ubisoft always says that the first part of Assassin's Creed was normal. But the second is beyond praise. I hope that will be the case with the film.
I would like to give a rating of 6.5, but it is not. Therefore, rounded:
As an old fan of Assassin's creed, I had to keep my indignation and urge to vomit throughout the film.
Let's start simple.
The games of the series have always been appreciated for recreating historical events and skillfully weaving a storyline with assassins there. Modernity was the link for all games of the series, its storyline was secondary. In the first place was always the story of the ancestor. What are we fed here? 80% of the movie we watch Callum Lynch is not interesting. Also, the setting for the ancestor was chosen extremely unsuccessfully. What did we see in the game series? Beautiful 16th century Italy. Stunning with its architecture, Stanbul. The Caribbean Sea, filled with juicy colors and picturesque views. And here we are fed tons of sand and dust.
So what's next? Right. I don’t care about the game series.
The feeling that neither the writers, nor the director, nor Fassbender, who produced this mediocre kinzo, are at all familiar with the series of games. Let's start with the animus. In games, the animus was a stationary device similar to a chair or bed in which a person was immersed, where he lived the life of his ancestor. What do we see in the movie? A huge room with a mechanical manipulator in the middle, to which it is unclear why a person is connected. Not only is it ineffective, it also contradicts the lore of the series of games.
The trickle-down effect. In a series of games, this phenomenon appeared in a person who spent a lot of time in the animus. Keyword to a lot. In the film, the main character experienced this effect after a two-minute session in the animus. In games, this effect was more like hallucinations, a person could not contact ghosts, they were not tangible. In the film, it got to the point that Callum sparred with Aguilar. Completely absurd.
Apple. In video games, the edem apple was about 15-20 centimeters in diameter, meaning it couldn’t fit fully into the hand. In the movie, it's about the size of a baseball. It is also an incomprehensible transformer.
Separately, I will tell you about the story.
It's simple and stereotypical. The characters are too cardboard, completely undisclosed. Lots of inconsistencies and illogicalities. Guards ' prisons ' with the most dangerous ' prisoners ' armed to the teeth: a club, a club and another club. I saw a telescopic club at another guard. There is progress and technology. And firearms are a useless thing, because who can use them at all in the 21st century.
And now for the good.
There is little good in the film, very little. I can mark the parkour. It's done at level. That’s all, I didn’t like anything else in the movie. Ubisoft has definitely failed.
The film is based on the game, and, in principle, on this in the description you can put an end.
Unfortunately, this is already a stereotype - if a film is made based on a game, then no budget and no cast will save it. Exceptions only prove the existence of this rule.
Just like this. Great picture, great cast, exciting story and grain of plot. But the implementation is worse than average.
For example, I didn’t play the game, and I don’t know much about it, I could interpret the essence of the problem a little more in more detail for people like me, draw the characters a little more clearly, and present the underwater and watering stones of their relationship a little more clearly. I never understood who the main character was, where he came from and what he was drawn into. Awareness, though incomplete, came in chunks while watching. I didn't like it at all. Because of this, I was absolutely not interested in the plot, nor in the main character, nor in its history, nor in the fate of the future and humanity. Everything turned out to be mechanical, faceless and boring. It seemed that the film was created from poorly related clichés - a martyr hero, a miracle machine, action in places, some hint of an indistinct love line ...
Anyway, it's crumpled and faded. Two advantages of the film: the cast (and the game, respectively) and rare/short action scenes, breathtaking. But even there, it seems to me, it would be possible to add the greatness of assassins and tragedy to everything that happens.
I don’t know who to recommend this film to. It seems that fans of the game are not delighted with him, and for movie fans there is nothing to cling to.
I can’t say that I’m a devoted fan of the entire series of games Assassin's Creed. The real delight I feel is only before the very first part, in which there was no absurdity like reviving gods and ennobled assassins who outlived their time. And ever since I knew the first part existed, I've dreamed of making it into a movie. With the release of "Prince of Persia" my dream intensified, and was realized in 2017, when the "Assassin's Creed" was released in the Russian rental. True, it was only partially realized. As soon as I found out that “Assassin’s Creed” will not be an adaptation of the first part, but will be shot according to a special script, I realized that I should be prepared for some shortcomings.
In fact, it's no surprise that Assassin's Creed doesn't follow the plot of the games. Not only are they a little outdated, but they have a lot to do with the frightening date of December 21, 2012, which the world has already safely survived. The film presents the same basis as the games, but in a completely different shell. The main character becomes Callum Lynch, depressed by the breakup of relations with his father. Predictably, he becomes the main target of a secretive organization that, with the help of the Animus program, wants to awaken his genetic past in order to take possession of a deadly artifact. In fact, this is the whole story in one sentence. As a spectator, more or less familiar with the source, I longed to see at least a shadow of real historical events, but either they were not at all, or they were given very little attention. This disadvantage was brightened only by the abundance of conversations in pleasant Spanish. Not too pleasing was the color scheme of many frames - everything is either too dark or painted in solid brown colors.
However, the main shortcomings are related to another. I do not expose any faults to the plot that is very receding from games, since – I repeat – I do not consider the original source to be an ideal. But what I can't close my eyes to is the complete absence of bloody scenes. Before us is a thriller with an age limit of 16+, which does not justify itself in any way. Like game prototypes, Callum constantly kills his pursuers, but not even the smallest drop of blood will get into the camera lens. Although there are tense scenes in the film, they are not enough to satisfy the expectation. This disadvantage is mixed with a complete inability to compete with the game in terms of camera work. The leap of faith, captured even on one of the posters, which I was looking forward to, is shown so badly that it leaves me completely indifferent.
Finally, Callum's vainly added associate assassins. In games, his prototypes always acted independently and appeared before the players as single and intrepid heroes. The presence of partners (and even partners) in Callum dethrones him from the rank of monopoly fighters, which is very frustrating.
And while there are still a lot of comments to be made about the storyline, I’m willing to forgive that because the film didn’t excite me, nor did it disappoint me. It turned out to be exactly what I expected it to be before going to the cinema – spectacular, with a clearly thought out, albeit banal, plot, and a finale hinting at a sequel. To the disadvantages caused by the desire to play on the popularity of the source, I was ready in advance and therefore forgive their director and writers. They had the opportunity to make a film based on a remarkable game, and they took advantage of it.
Of course, this is not the best adaptation, and it’s not surprising that fans of games are blowing it to dust, but I do not give up hope that someday we will still see a full adaptation of the first game, which will play on our nostalgia and cause sincere joy. With a clear conscience, I’m putting eight points on this film and I’m waiting for it to continue.
Game movies have always had a reputation for being mediocre crafts shot to make money from fans. Counting how many times directors and producers have announced that they are making a “truly amazing movie” is endless. At the same time, truly successful film adaptations of video games can be counted on the fingers of one hand of a three-toed disabled person. A new attempt to transfer the game to the rails of cinema, this time from the Australian director Justin Kurzel, who shot the magnificent Macbeth, who attracted a team to his new project, which brought stunning success in the adaptation of the famous tragedy of Shakespeare, is a unique work in its own way: it is a disgusting film, not devoid of some artistic merit, which absolutely does not need a viewer.
The action takes place today or in the near future. Scientists from the Abstergo Corporation secretly kidnap a young man named Callum Lynch. In a huge laboratory located in Spain, lovers of digging into human brains connect the protagonist to the Animus machine, with which they intend to read the genetic memory of Lynch in the hope of finding out where his ancestor, the Spanish Assassin Aguilar, who lived in the fifteenth century, hid a powerful artifact - the Apple of Eden. Living the life of his ancestor, Callum Lynch learns about the centuries-old confrontation between two sects: Assassins and Templars.
Michael Fassbender did not fail when he began to actively try to bring to the big screen the story of the centuries-old struggle of two groups of fanatics. The first part of the video game Assassin's Creed was released in 2008, but even then it had the effect of a bomb exploded. One of the advantages of the original source was undoubtedly the plot. Then the screenwriters, instead of trying to surprise players with the delights of plot twists and deep drama, told an uncomplicated, but incredibly heartfelt story of a young burner of life, who was once almost at gunpoint forced to lie on the “operating table” to view information about the events of the beginning of the last millennium, while the hero literally lives the story of his long-time ancestor – assassin Altair ibn La Ahad. History, despite its simplicity, touched upon such important topics for each person as the influence of the past on our lives, the temptation to obtain unlimited power and the meaningfulness of life in the name of a fanatical idea. In the hands of talented creators, such a set could turn into stunning science fiction, not devoid of deep meaning and interesting conflicts. Unfortunately, nothing but the world itself and the main concept in the film did not migrate.
“Assassin’s Creed” destroys, first of all, a disgusting script, as if written by a sixth-grader for the essay contest “How I spent the summer”. Any work of fiction is based on a good story, built around a certain conflict, in the center of which there is a character whom the viewer will empathize with. Whatever the goal of the main character, but it must be, one way or another, close to watching the movie. There must be common ground between the viewer and the film. The problem with Kurzel’s new creation is that there are no such points in it. With the exception of perhaps the most refined fans, what happens on screen is likely to be of no interest to anyone. Screenwriters don't try to interest anyone.
The authors of the script arrogantly decided that the confrontation between the Templars and Assassins should captivate everyone in itself. And this is a big mistake, because neither the struggle of the Templars and Assassins, red and white or orcs and people is interesting in itself, if the viewer does not share the views of at least one of the parties to the conflict, or in the ranks of one of the groups there are really interesting characters who will be something close to the audience. As a result, the authors of “Assassin’s Creed” offer almost two hours to listen to pathetic and empty as Fassbender’s eyes throughout the film dialogue. There are no interesting characters in this story. Heroes are completely deprived of their face and any personality. Callum Lynch, apart from the number of dialogues, is no different from the Spanish soldier who is killed in the twentieth minute of this movie gum. The film seems to exist for itself. Heroes go about their business, solve their problems, but this should not catch the viewer. Why? The Templars are well enough, because they will get the apple of Eden, and the Assassins are also well, because nothing is true and everything is allowed. Two hours of struggle between the two organizations can be no more intriguing than a reality show in which the audience will be invited to watch as two teams will have to wash ten plates in a day, simultaneously leading conversations and a couple of times staging spectacular brawls.
Despite the star cast, admiring the acting is almost impossible. The actors play perfectly in those tiny frames, in which they are driven cardboard and dull characters. The characters of this story are devoid of any motivation and make important decisions simply at the behest of the writers. Michael Fassbender tries to portray a typical “hero-savior”, Marion Cotillard – a typical girl of the main character, Jeremy Irons – a typical villainous boss. Their emotions are alive and even true, but they are like flaps of real leather that do not want to grow to a body that has been refreshed many days ago. The reason that so well-known actors signed up for this gallimatia may be that deep respect for the personality of the director.
The only advantage of the film is the visual component. Justin Kurzel is a talented man with good taste, who was commissioned to make a movie with good actors based on a frankly talentless script. And then the director squeezes everything possible. The transitions from the past to the present, with all the simplicity of the artistic reception, look stunningly beautiful. Many shots resemble the animated paintings of Renaissance artists. Contemplation of this beauty is the only reason why you should endure this two-hour pottery.
Somewhere in the middle of the movie, one might come to a rather sad conclusion: the ideal way to watch Assassin's Creed is to run it on a big TV at a holiday table and turn the sound off. At all. To get aesthetic pleasure and not hear the nonsense spoken by the heroes. In the case of cinemas, it seems that the film was shot with the aim of spinning in empty cinemas, because watching two hours of exchange of incredibly stupid replicas for a beautiful video sequence is unlikely to bring great pleasure even to the most demanding viewers. This is just a two-hour ad for a wildly popular video game, and not the most successful. Without being familiar with the content of the original source, the viewer is unlikely to want to spend a few more hours on such nonsense, which may seem like a video game after watching this “masterpiece”.
4 out of 10
I managed to play several parts of this game at one time, and not to get acquainted with its adaptation would be unforgivable.
Sentenced to death, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) wakes up after the execution in the laboratory, where the charming doctor-scientist Sofia explains to him that he is the ancestor of the Assassin family and he has a great mission to save humanity. With the help of technologies that allow you to revive the distant past in memory, Lynch, aka Aguilar, goes on an adventure.
What is this nonsense? Was it filmed by a teenager who played the game? It seems to be an impressive budget, and the cast consists of famous and famous surnames, but in fact the film turned out to be below the average level due to the incoherent plot, leaving many questions and understatement. At first, I was surprised why this creation was coldly met by critics and it has such a low rating on Kinopoisk, and therefore decided to see it firsthand. And make sure things are really bad in this movie. Yes, no doubt, the locations are very large-scale and expensive, the costumes are also made on conscience, and everyone tried to do the game, but the integrity of the film consists not only of these aspects. Characters of the characters are not spelled out, even the main character is not indicated for what he was sentenced to death, what motivated them to revolt? I'm not talking about the others. During the film, the actions of the characters are spontaneous, not amenable to logic. In one of the scenes, I was killed in general, how a person could be killed with a large crowd of people and with the presence of security, and even overcome a considerable distance. Yeah, and Lynch was aware of the location of the Templar meetings. Such moments just pissed off, and there were many, and if I have such feelings when watching the film, then for me the film more than failed.
Screening video games has always been a thankless endeavor, but in this case it is no excuse. I'm disappointed.
I was stupored after those words. As an expert on the lore of the game universe, I never understood why the Asasin creed was changed. Why the essence of the credo is to give your life for the Apple?
But then I watched the whole movie.
What happened on the screen caused only laughter.
Templars who do not hide that they are Templars.
Aguilar with Mary, who keep praying and swearing that they will sacrifice themselves in the name of the apple.
The animus that was ruined to the point of impossibility. By the way, the creators assured that this Animus is faster and more reliable than the earlier models presented in the games of the series. A brazen lie. On synchronization, the animus broke. Really? Is it reliable?
'We're following the shooting closely!' - shouted the representatives of Ubisoft. Now it's just laughing. The creators did not even touch the original source.
All right, I thought, well, they don't have to respect the lore, but is the film good? Alas, no. The characters are not revealed throughout the film. They do a lot of illogical things. What's in the present, what's in the past is bad.
The only plus of the film is parkour and Spain of the XV century.
This film had enormous potential. A whole layer of locations, time periods and plots. But it's all lost forever. Even the beautiful caste did not save this picture. I don't recommend this movie. No one.
Another popular computer game franchise. Since the play itself already has a certain linear plot, it would not be particularly difficult to make an action-action fighter out of it. But the authors decided to introduce some originality, and let muti. At the same time, it feels that there was a good concept and even some atmosphericity present, but the whole action is filled with meaningful pauses, boring babbling and, although relatively good mahachi, but constantly diluted displays of the main character in offline reality, which could be viewed with some interest in the first couple of moments.
Then the idea itself, of course, too primitive and murky. Well, it is clear that the Templar Order personifies evil for progressive humanity, but what the Assassins themselves are, it is not really clear from the film. Why didn’t they destroy them all at once, why are they chasing them when they could have done it in the past? Is there a reason to fight the order again? That's crazy. And if so, then the assassins themselves look in this light, somehow not very convincing.
The actors for the main roles were recruited like more or less good, but among them there was clearly no bright character. All merged in their phlegmaticity and detachment into one gray-blue uninteresting mass.
The finale of the film definitely suggests a sequel. It is difficult to know whether it will be, because in America the film clearly failed at the box office. If I don't, I won't be too upset.
To watch or not to say, because the movie is probably designed primarily for fans of the game, and I do not belong to such.
In the life of any large franchise, there comes a time when it becomes necessary to expand. The most suitable and close to video games field for expansion is cinema. The film industry, apparently, has not yet had time to get tired of the adaptations of video games, though, and they have already come out decently, and not everyone can be called successful even with a stretch. Remembering what game series in the field of cinema noted, nothing comes to mind except numerous “masterpieces” Uwe Ball, two questionable paintings about Hitman, Max Payne, and closing the infamous procession Doom. The current unhappy trend was disrupted by the long-awaited WarCraft. And with him, there was hope somewhere. Duncan Jones proved that it is not the games themselves that are to blame for the failures, but a careless approach to them.
Ubisoft decided that their “assassin” was already ripe for a full meter, and brought him out of the shadows to the masses. Started in 2007, the adventures of hooded people have won the hearts of millions of people around the world, and the series has already managed to gain cult status. And now the "murderers" have begun their first crusade on screens. Nothing foreshadowed trouble. The film had a generous budget, a full set of stars and huge potential. However, it was alarming that seeing off the picture of Justin Kurzel in the rental, representatives of the company said that they did not hope for commercial success. Surprisingly, the French had different priorities. The current tape was supposed to be a kind of PR stunt, a kind of two-hour advertising designed to attract even more people to the monitor with a keyboard.
But I'm afraid the film did the opposite, alienating potential players. Because the quality of the story leaves much to be desired. The story turned out to be so indistinct that people unfamiliar with the world of video games will not understand a damn thing, let alone feel the atmosphere and meaning! Hack writers did not even bother to conduct a short tour for beginners, immediately throwing into the thick of events, throwing away preludes and lyrical digressions, acquainting those with the peculiarities of the world. The mythology of the universe is very superficial, which has upset me as a fan. Many central aspects of the plot are familiar to players, such as the theme of the First Civilization, the Apple of Eden, the fate of the Abstergo prisoners and others were ignored. Apparently, the creators were afraid to overload the tape with meaning, but they were so careful that they noticeably overdid it, releasing meaningless nonsense. The amount of information included in the film is not enough to understand all the subtleties and feel the unique atmosphere of a stunning and extraordinary universe. What is amazing, because the duration is almost two hours! What did they do? On the image of how Fassbender fights with “ghosts”, goes to the dining room and reflects very long. You should have seen him go to the bathroom! Some events in the present significantly slow down the plot and simply tire. Maybe instead of shoving the slack, sometimes resembling pure nonsense, the authors should have focused on eliminating the gaps? Especially since the flaws at least add up. Starting with crooked installation, ending with the lack of elementary logic.
Based on all the observations, it gives a strong impression that the creators had several bright ideas in the arsenal, but they themselves got entangled in them, eventually mixing some tasteless nasty cocktail.
The film is completely independent of the games. Desmond was replaced by Callum Lynch. But unlike the peaceful bartender, our hero is a real killer, sentenced to death by euthanasia and at the last moment saved Abstergo. The plot moves associated with it are depressing by absurdity, and the further, the more such “miracles” there are.
Suppose that Kurzel wanted to imagine the eternal confrontation between the Assassins and the Knights Templar, leaving the prism of good and evil behind. And this in principle sounds good, as it helps to reflect the struggle of the Order and the brotherhood objectively without bias and shameful division into bad / good. In his understanding, in this centuries-old conflict, there are no right and no guilty. Nobody deserves sympathy. Both sides pursue their own goals, have their own standards, beliefs and ideals, and orthodoxly follow the teachings. But the director clearly overdone, completely erasing the line between protagonists and antagonists. Because the assassins, switching to simple language, a little better, because they are fighting for free will, and the director demonized them, exposing them as psychotic fanatics. At least that may seem to some, say, uninitiated. An alien person will not understand at all how the philosophy of the former differs from the philosophy of the latter. Do Assassins really serve the light or is it a well-known legend, dust in the eyes and nothing more? Especially since the murky family tragedy from Kala's childhood sows doubts. Confused narrative and hanging in the air inefficiency, ruined the “Killer’s Creed”, they also force the viewer to think and fantasize. It is possible that labels should still be left to avoid misunderstandings and stupid questions.
The action develops in two epochs: the past and the present. Animus appearance, which pretty spoiled, turning from a chair to a giant size unit, sends us with Callum Lynch in the fifteenth century in the midst of the sacred Spanish Inquisition. Unfortunately, the timekeeping has been divided in such a way that we will spend more time looking at the interior of the Abstergo building with all its chambers and huge sterilely clean rooms instead of enjoying the picturesque views of ancient Spain. Never mind. Although I note that the spirit of the chosen era, the creators managed to transfer to a solid four. The storyline in the past is quite primitive and simple. It is largely written off from the games, mainly from the first part, except that the main characters have changed. Callum's ancestor Aguilar, along with a group of assassins, tries to capture the Apple and at the same time overthrow the power of the Templars. It is not easy to think, but over the originality, no one thought to bother. For a variety in the general story web there are several side turns. For example, there is a line with the Emir father and his kidnapped child, designed to bring a little drama and trembling tension to the meager emotional plot. But these “family” moments, alas, somehow unremarkable and transient.
There are complaints about the characters. Heroes turned raw. They have nothing but empty emotions. They are like shells, devoid of the inner spiritual world of dolls, inanimate elements of the script. However, this is not the trouble of the star cast, on which a large bet was originally made. You can not find fault with any artist, everyone worked as hard as he could, just alone without the help of the team, you can not pull out a dead film.
Everything in "Assassin's Creed" caused rejection and a lot of complaints, except for the technical performance. Action scenes, including combat ones, look quite atmospheric and spectacular, although they do not strike the eye with their pomposity and special grace. Loved the parkour scenes and thanks for the leap of faith.
"Credo" left a bad aftertaste. The film completely satisfied with visual effects, but showed frankly weak directorial work and the absence of any subtext. In addition, the very essence was raped by the creators and was terribly distorted, which is certainly a huge minus.
5 out of 10
By itself, the idea of making a film based on the game destroys the canon of the original source and in general, this is a huge disadvantage rather than an advantage. It is no secret that, in most cases, film adaptations of games are not crowned with success. And surprisingly, the film "Assassin's Creed" failed not only to compare with the original source, but even to approach it. Although there was potential.
There's not much left of the game here. Also, take into account the fact that the film has nothing to do with the plot of the games. We are presented with a completely different story. And this story turned out to be very fresh and strained. Seriously, the action, for the most part, takes place in our time, when both the historical killers themselves are given half an hour. And this timeline is very small to reveal the world in which we are immersed and tell about the characters. As for the world, it is presented to us in eternally dark green tones, it’s okay to apply them in one scene, for effect, but no, you need to shove them always and everywhere, it feels like the animators were lazy to normally draw landscapes.
Characters are in general complete darkness, only the ending is darker than them. All as one! Everyone has one speech, one facial expression, one image. No disclosure, no worthwhile interaction, of so-called chemistry. Everything looks very tense and uninteresting.
There are films that carry a deep message, there are those that are fun (hello transformers and flight), and there are absolutely empty films. "Killer's Creed" just belong to this category, their very existence does not carry any meaning, and does not cause any emotions.
Bottom line: the movie is crazy! Absurd, hopeless, illogical nonsense! Don't waste time on "it", look better "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time", there the story will be more interesting and the world is much better written.
Last year, I immediately ran to the movies for the long-awaited adaptation of the well-known series of games, and was very disappointed with what I saw. Here's my brief opinion. . .
'Killer's Creed'
A promising concept, good actors, good decisions, well-made fights, but a poor script, a lot of nonsense, no characters, disgusting camera work ruined the whole film. The film is neither good nor bad; it is not good. After the film does not leave bad feelings, and I did not regret the money spent - this is a paradox.
God, there was such a magnificent base: so many ideas could be gleaned from games, so much material; but in the end, only well-recognized gameplay chips, phrases a la #39; nothing is true, everything is allowed & #39; and the Apple of Eden were taken from the game. Just put a good writer on the post, a cameraman and a director, not a bunch of amateurs, and a good movie is ready. What's the big deal, I can't understand? How could such a game not be a masterpiece?
I can't understand. . . . in August of the forty-fourth.
I can’t understand... whose fault is more in the failure of this film – the writers or the director?
I have played almost everything in this series, so I know the subject. I am not a big fan of the franchise.
So, about the film's failure. Whose fault is the director or the writer? It feels like a little bit of both. The fault of the writers in an absolutely bland script with cardboard characters, whose life is incomprehensible and not particularly interesting to the viewer (what is there to be especially cunning). Heroes are practically not disclosed and little revealed in the plot, and as a result, there is simply no desire to follow their actions on the screen. Honestly, I haven’t seen a movie in the 10th minute before. Almost immediately I wanted to turn it off (I did not watch the movie and thank God, to be honest), but only the intention to look to the end to fully form an opinion stopped me.
After all, I agree that the result of failure is a bad choice of director. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against Justin Kurzel as a master. Symbols and beautiful shootings in the film are enough, and they please the eye. It's just the wrong choice of atmosphere for the film. Imagine if the books of the author of humorous fiction Andrei Belyanin filmed, say, Andrei Tarkovsky?
“Assassin’s Creed” was supposed to be (so I understand) an exciting action that would “hold” the viewer and not make him bored for a minute. I literally struggled with sleep throughout the film. Protracted dialogues (most of which are meaningless for people unfamiliar with the subject), long glances of the main characters ... pauses in speech ... all this is good for films of a different caliber & #39;. Assassin’s Creed is like death. Which, in fact, is quite logical and showed the reaction of the audience and box office.
In all this ugliness, it is unclear what else – how did Ubisoft allow such a peculiar approach to its offspring? How can you so deafeningly spoil a knowingly successful idea from which you could make a candy on the big screen?
- How did you let that happen?!
- They didn't execute!
How many times has Hollywood, and not only him, tried to give the world a good movie based on computer games. Bladrain...Max Payne...Far Edge...both Hitman...and many, many other failed pictures. Yes, there were not bad attempts, such as “Lara Croft” or “Sylene Hill” (the first), but it is still an incongruous excuse for producers and directors who ruined a lot of good ideas and plots that could be transferred from the game to the screens.
Oh, my God! "Yubisoft" announces the release of the film on the cult game "Assassin's Creed", which is loved all over the world! What is it? The world will receive a colorful tape about the confrontation between the Templars and Assassins, in the center of which the Great Warrior Altair of the period of the first crusades? Or will we be transported to the Renaissance of Italy with da Vinci and Machiavelli? No, the time of the dark and terrible Inquisition and Autodafe, the Reconquistas and the religious wars! Medieval Spain! What could be better?? And plus to all the prerequisites, the phils are strengthened by the star Michael Fassbender Marion Cotillard, in whose help Jerami Irons and Bernard Gleeson are called up. The director will be Justin Kurtzel – a favorite at the Cannes Festival! 120 million budget, natural shooting in Spain and Malta, cool stunt tricks, a minimum of computer graphics and a great advertising campaign! In the end, we get one of the dumbest movies.
And the most important thing is that the film “Killers Creed” is not a bad film, no, it is very good from a technical point of view (although the shoals are certainly present), it is colorful and atmospheric! But he's so stupid! And again, once again, as many times as possible, His Highness is a SCENARIST! Screenwriters, actually! Few people know that at different times the script was written by four different people! And everyone was doing and remaking, and something was wrong, and something was wrong with the producers! But here we assembled, sewed and removed! What happened in the end? – Totally nothing! Cutting stupid, stupid and illogical episodes in two time intervals, which are an attempt to unite the “Matrix”, “13 district” and “Prince of Persia” ... a clumsy plot, the logic of which can be broken down to dust without even going into the subtleties! They even ruined the leap of faith.
We ended up with a sad idiot that neither Fassbender nor anyone else pulled out. Very sad, because one of the most advanced and cool ideas of computer games of our time was ruined, which could give birth to a wonderful franchise at the level of the same "Matrix".
P.S. As a fan of Assassin's Creed, I was expecting this movie, just as people are waiting for every next Nolan picture. And the disappointment from him was as great as the hope for this picture. This movie was supposed to be a benchmark, and it was a failure...and yes, they said there would be two more parts.
