League A or League B? To be or not to be? What a wonderful film the Italian director Mario Camerini gave us. Once I watched the film “Dreams on the Roads” with Anna Magnani and Massimo Girotti and noted for myself the one who directed the film. Therefore, both the meaning and the desire was to continue acquaintance with the work of Mario Camerini. And I'll tell you, dear friends, Sunday Heroes is one of the best comedies I've seen. And even if in my words, someone glimpses pathetic nonsense, I will stand by my own fact that this movie is so magnificent that it would be a big mistake not to see it. Here such an orchestra lights up, where everyone plays his part more than inspired and captivating. And no wonder, because they are one team, like the images they created on the screen.
There are not many sports movies, frankly. And those who are not all with a capital letter. And that's the picture. It's about a sport that millions of people go crazy for. Of course, you already know that this is about football. For some, this is the stupidest activity in which twenty-two people in underwear chase the ball. But that's not really true. It has its own tactics and strategy and passions and traumas of betrayal, in short, everything that is subject to the weakness of his person. And in the painting by Mario Camerini “Sunday Heroes”, all feelings are exposed to the limit. In some places satirically, ridiculing the ignorance of football players, sometimes affecting the passion of fans, Camerini, as a real artist, will lead you through the gallery of interesting images and characters. Speaking not only as a director, but also as a screenwriter, as a producer of the film, Mario reliably staked an opinion for me about him as an original nugget, not advertised, but truly a genius of his business.
The ability to write sparkling dialogue is not given to everyone. We know French masters, of course, but Mario Camerini, with the help of Franco Buzatti and Ennio de Concini, wrote great dialogue. They are captivating almost from the first minute. And with the appropriate gestures and articulation of the Italians, with their crazy temperament, spectacle and action takes on unprecedented and unprecedented turns. In order not to be unfounded, I will give a couple of such dialogues as an example. I ask you not to judge me strictly and not to throw stones at me, for do not judge the pianist, he plays as he can.
So it is. The Grey team arrived for the match with the grandee of Italian football. Before they stay in the hotel, they play in the foyer:
- Where are you going?
- For postcards.
You're going to write Greta Garbo, call me.
Or here's another one when they read the paper:
Before the grays rises the eternal dilemma of Hamlet!
- Hamlet? Which team is this Hamlet?
He hasn't played in a long time, asshole.
- He's a coach in Navarre.
- Ignorant. Hamlet the poet.
But it's not just the Grey players who set the tone in the film. In this picture there will be two odd fans, for whom there will be many obstacles to get to the game of your favorite team. One of them is played by the wonderful Paolo Stoppa, looking at the face of which you already involuntarily begin to smile. There will also be a love line in the film, or rather not one. For example, a commentary position. What am I talking about? Same thing. The commentator also arrives at this important game. Not one arrives accompanied by a kind wife and a friend. A friend's car they want to buy. So, while the commentator comments on the match, the familiar, as you can guess, does not waste time trying to seduce his wife. This is what came out of this adultery when the heroes returned from the forest:
- I changed my mind. Your car doesn't fit us. It only works on the radio.
Okay. Shut up. I give you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of big football, crazy passions and enjoy the amazing game of Rafa Vallone, both on the football field and on the screen. In one episode, Raf’s eyes reminded me of Spencer Tracy’s in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Fantastic transformation!
