I don’t like everything related to Egypt, pyramids, tutankhamuns, mummies, it all catches up on me terrible boredom. But after watching the trailer, I decided that this picture is worthy of attention. It reminds me of the movie “Descent”. In my opinion, this film should have caused me to feel fear of claustrophobia, unseen creatures who are ready to eat you, the secrets of mazes and traps. But everything turned out to be very fresh and not interesting.
The film begins very boring, continues just as boring and only at the end of the audience throws a bone of interest. Something was missing all the time, there was always a feeling of uneasiness. There was no drive. Those creatures, they made me laugh more than fear. And all the obstacles that are presented are passed on one occasion. I especially didn’t like the sand trap. Even annoyed at the beginning of this nonsense. With one foot she was stuck, her father could not pull out, but when her sand had already completely covered, he succeeded. Are you serious? It's not plausible, it's not natural. The whole film does not lend itself to the elementary laws of physics. If the creators followed at least some limits of physics, everything would not be so terrible.
Yes, the ending is quite interesting and obviously shabby in the movie "Descent 2". It kind of hints that the game is not over, that we should wait for the continuation, because the demon is released or not.
This film reminds me of the recent Paris City of the Dead. It is also not of high quality, but it was interesting to watch. There was drive and unexplained fear. And in the pyramids everything is so elementary and simple that there is no wet place from fear.
The film is very weak, boring, the characters do not inspire any sympathy and interest in themselves. Simply put, very faint actors, although they do not play poorly. No plot, no ending bad. It's not worth watching.
You expect a great acting - and you get 'soap', film 2! You're waiting for an interesting story - and it's not - 2! And so on. I didn’t expect this movie, so I wasn’t disappointed. But I wasn't surprised.
Plot. Nothing special for a horror movie. However, the entourage of Egypt personally fell to my taste. Pyramids, a secret that hides behind it, remember stories from childhood about the curses of the pharaohs. Archaeologists find a three-sided pyramid (which, by the way, shows only one side) and decide to explore it. At the beginning of the film, the topic of an ancient race (or aliens) is mused, which seems to hint, but no details are given, and therefore you can immediately forget about it. It is clear that the huge pyramid hidden under the sands, it is necessary to check and do it with five. And then dark corridors, unknown creatures and the like.
For me, the script is saturated with various elements that are not disclosed at the same time - here you and unknown animals, and the ancient Egyptian god, and Freemasons, and the pyramid itself with its corridors, what is worth! However, throwing it into the script, we got an incomprehensible mess. The last 20 minutes of the film were made up ' on the knee'.
Shooting Popular today and unloved by me shooting a la documentary with a view from the camera. However, most of the film takes place in a dark, closed space, which adds to the viewer’s problems. I will also add visuals that look really bad. In many ways, the film sags after seeing in full growth Anubis, which is not every modern computer game will take.
Game What can you say about the actors in the dark and closed space? No one really stands out. In the story, all the characters, however, as always in such films, people with a lot of idiocy and no sense of self-preservation. That's what they did.
Atmosphere The film is weak in the first place. You can forgive bad acting, shooting, but the lack of atmosphere is a horror in a horror film. I have to admit that a few times I shuddered - popping something out is an old but proven trick. But that’s not the whole movie. The creators decided to make the film dynamic - the changeability of the situation is amazing - immediately unknown animals, then the closed space of the pyramid-maze, then traps, and in the end the evil god. And this went to the detriment of the film, the characters simply forgot about the previous danger, as if it did not exist. At the end I was waiting for an unknown star race - what if?
A passing film that you can watch with friends over a glass ' Tea' and forget.
In front of the viewer another walker, a tramp, with an interesting entourage. A group of people descends into the pyramid, where they are naturally safely lost. It is too early to panic, especially around unlucky archaeologists is the folklore history of ancient Egypt, albeit a little primitive, it does not go beyond the school framework, but at least the audience provides interest, as well as the heroes themselves.
But before starting to study the pyramid, the director plays political scientist for something, showing the popular unrest in Cairo - such an immodest delay in timekeeping. But the good is getting tired of it, because I was starting to worry.
And so, in principle, this picture is typical of its kind - pseudo-documentary close-ups, screams, absurd behavior, which gives rise to yelling at the heroes and a closed space. The only thing that surprised the ending, first with its originality, and then with its malpractice, is that it really disappoints.
I will recommend the film for viewing, but only to ardent fans of such a spectacle, but I note that the picture did not deserve such a low rating.
To anyone, I wish you a pleasant viewing!
Pyramid promised to be one of the best horror films of 2014. Millions of dollars were spent on her advertising campaign, the official trailer was intriguing, and the themes of Egyptian adventures have always attracted the attention of millions of viewers around the world. Personally, I considered this movie as a gift to all fans of horror. I was very disappointed.
So, the plot of the presented picture at first really intrigued, and it is impossible to argue with this. In the center of the story is a group of enthusiastic researchers-archaeologists led by Professor Hodenn (Denice O’Hare), who for more than a month are somewhere in the vast ocean of the Egyptian desert. It would seem that you can find where more than one expedition has already visited, but our heroes knew for sure that their search will lead to the greatest discovery of the century. Calling for the help of innovative technologies, satellite and robotic drones, archaeologists have discovered an ancient three-sided pyramid, the existence of which there is no historical evidence. However, the moment workers discover the entrance to the building, the professor's university management demands that he leave Egypt because of the unstable political situation. It is not difficult to guess what contradictory feelings overcome the heart of a scientist who is about to inscribe his name in the Hall of Fame of World Archaeology. And after a brief discussion of the disappointing order with his daughter and a team of documentary filmmakers, Hodden decides to briefly break into the pyramid and find out what its walls are hiding. None of the participants of the expedition thought that their discovery could become their own grave, but it actually happened. Heroes fall into a mystical labyrinth and meet something unimaginable that came to them from the depths of millennia. And the only witnesses of the nightmare that awaited the heroes in the impenetrable darkness were hand-held video cameras, which were later discovered by a group of rescuers.
Honestly, my expectations before watching the tape Gregory Levasser were quite high, because "Pyramid" promised to become one of the most remarkable projects of the pseudo-documentary genre of recent times. And the first third of the timekeeping was really encouraging. The creators neatly brought us to the main story and tried to discover some aspects of the work of modern archaeology, in which computer technology goes side by side with ancient methods of excavation using shovels and brushes. It was amusing to see an old-school scholar, Professor Hodden, wrangling with his charming daughter over the use of satellites that kill all the romance of archaeology. In some ways, the Pyramid is very similar to the first part of Jurassic Park, in which paleontologist Alan Grant until the last resisted the use of sensors capable of revealing dinosaur skeletons under the multimeter thickness of the earth. Gregory Levasseur also did not ignore the political problems associated with the memorable Egyptian revolution, during which many civilians died and there was a change in the top leadership of the country. In fact, it was the problems of politics that influenced the fact that our researchers went into the unknown and got into a whole series of troubles.
Of course, the most interesting part of the story was to begin at the moment when scientists and documentarians went into the labyrinths of the unexpectedly discovered pyramid. However, the long-awaited horror, which we all counted on, turned out to be a surprisingly disappointing spectacle, capable of setting even the most devoted admirers of the genre against the picture. To begin with, the director does not adhere to the documentary of what is happening on the screen. The opening credits stated that everything that happened in history was captured by cameras and subsequently posted in the media for general acquaintance. That is, according to the assurances of the authors of the tape, the whole story was to be shown purely by those cameras that were in the hands of members of the expedition. Only now in the fifth minute of the adventures of the heroes in the labyrinths of the pyramid, it becomes clear that Gregory Levasseur is not going to follow the inviolable laws of the genre, but uses his “invisible” operator, who somehow incomprehensibly first penetrates the closed rooms and shoots them from the inside. Also, this cameraman often runs a few hundred meters ahead and shows a group of scientists making their way through the darkness and walking along the camera. Because of this unprofessional approach, the whole atmosphere of mystery is instantly destroyed. “Pyramid” is a kind of unnatural symbiosis of documentary and artistic shooting and such an approach to the matter is seriously annoying. Until the end, it was not possible to feel the emotions of the heroes and feel like members of the expedition. And aggravates the situation, as amazing as it may sound, the soundtrack. In the pictures of pseudo-documentary direction it should not be at all! You could play a melody from a player on camera a couple of times or sing a song and that would be enough. But to sound alarming notes every step of the heroes wandering through the ancient pyramid, where there should be no musical accompaniment at all, is a priori wrong.
It is possible to smooth out the irregularities of the narrative, shooting and logic could be carefully prescribed characters, but here Gregory Levasseur could not show us anything significant. All the characters in his film look like animated cardboard images. No member of the expedition can boast of anything special, but only annoys the viewer with his memorized phrases, from which he carries some cold detachment. So Professor Hodden appears before us as a classical snob scientist, for whom only his work is important. For the time being, for the time being, he resists the urge to personally penetrate the pyramid, but then the only meaning of life for him becomes reading hieroglyphs and walking through the labyrinths. Hodden doesn’t care if the members of his group survive, if he survives, the main thing for him is to see the secrets of antiquity, and let the whole world wait. His daughter, who also works in archaeology, in fact turned out to be an ordinary girl who gets into trouble and asks for help. Also in the company is a full-time technician, necessary only to somewhere along the way to disappear into oblivion. Well, and complements the company two documentaries in the face of the operator and the presenter. At first it seemed that they would be the main characters of the film, but their characters dissolved in the general mass of expressionlessness and nothing special about them can not be said.
The last nail in the sarcophagus "Pyramids" drives the denouement, in which Gregory Levasseur reveals all the secrets of the picture. Unfortunately, he destroyed all successful ideas with his own hands and his tape turned into an ordinary simple craft of category B, which we could see on weekdays in the evening, on some domestic TV channel. It’s unclear how Pyramid got to the big screens. This is a disappointment that should be forgotten as soon as possible. I advise you to skip this tape past the spotlight and better for the hundredth time to review the same “Mummy” by Stephen Sommers. At least it is filmed with proper attention to detail and evokes exceptionally positive emotions.
Egyptian mythology is incredibly rich in interesting stories, deep thoughts and mythologies, which even after so many years of research are a very topical subject of study by scientists and archaeologists around the world. But such a rare guest in the cinematic environment, which is often limited only to films about various mummies. It seems to correct this gap and was called this film by director Gregory Levasseur and despite the harsh criticism of this tape, in part she still coped with this task.
Of course, the first thing that catches the eye in this picture is the presence of director Alexander Azh as a producer, who has long established himself as a very exemplary representative of the modern genre of horror films. Here and in this case, Azha, after Frank Halfon, pushed his second protégé into the directorial environment, which turned out to be the director of this tape Gregory Levasseur, who previously wrote only scripts for Azha's works.
If you are not a form snob and even more so a prude, it is worth noting that for the debut the work was done very well. After all, watching the relatively recent “Paris, City of the Dead” to which this film is very similar in many ways, it becomes clear that this film beats it on all fronts. Perfectly selected scenery is played on the screen is not bad enough and interesting, and almost minimized the number of deaths and even fewer frightening moments does not allow you to confidently quit watching the picture long before the final credits. It is also pleasing that even when using the format of an already annoying pseudo-documentary film, the creators of the tape did not limit themselves to this alone and the film’s gender is a familiar horror film with the usual decoration.
The story itself is largely devoid of any originality and rubbed to holes. Almost from the very beginning, it is obvious what will happen on the screen, what the on-screen characters are, in what sequence they will die on the screen and whether anyone survives in the finale. The only thing that really remains a mystery is the “personality” of the force that will kill the screen characters with special systematicity and then the creators of the picture tried to glory. The mythology of Origen Osiris and Anubis was largely left behind and interpreted very superficially, but the idea looked good for the seed. Especially with the use of the Libras of Truth, which for unknown reasons always remained behind the scenes of films about Egyptian mythology.
The actors played very ordinary and do not even want to single out anyone. Unless, Ashley Hinshaw, the heroine of which behaved on the screen perhaps the most stupid and inadequate. Really confused in the picture only the quality of visual effects, which are not worth the money spent and largely devalued the quality of the entire tape.

The pyramid is another representative of the genre of horror films in the long-overdue format of Moncumenteri. Far from the form of disappointment in the genre, which he called the audience who watched the film. But certainly a very passable film, from which you should not expect anything outstanding.
A low rating, as always, would scare away, but I really wanted to rub my nerves with some horror movie. Even if you're mediocre. In principle, Pyramid fully satisfied the requests.
A group of archaeologists find a pyramid in the desert. Extremely ancient, terribly valuable, and just creepy. It would be a very stupid idea to go inside without preparation and with a small team, so that is what our heroes take on. Without making anyone famous, of course. What can be good about old tombs?
The plot is as simple as three pennies, and maybe as one. The characters are as template as the script is unpredictable. This applies to dialogue and everything else. Nothing in the film is above average. But it's not that bad. Before us is just a typical representative of the horror genre, and not the worst. At least, the story is more or less complete (and does not care about logic), for the heroes at least a little worried. It's a standard horror movie that can brighten up your evening.
About the film The Pyramid I will not be able to talk for a long time because this is the most standard and clichéd film in all respects of the genre. But I have to admit it's a very beautiful cliché. Showing the inside of the pyramid, with all its moves and wall drawings, personally made a good impression on me. Some will probably say that I bought a good picture and only, well, probably it is, I love such films, despite their cliche and stupidity, and the theme of the pyramids and ancient Egypt has always attracted me.
The main and most important problem of this film is the cliché, especially when it comes to the plot, where you immediately understand everything. No matter how many movies I watch, it’s always the same. When you look at the characters and realize who and how many will survive, if at all! There is nothing to say about the characters here. They're characters like characters, they've always been in movies like that.
But even though the plot is weak and the characters do not swing, the film boasts a wonderful camera work, that’s what really deserves praise, as well as the views of mazes and the actual theme of Ancient Egypt and all this saves the film and sets it apart from other films like this. I especially liked the presence of the ancient Egyptian deity, even if it is not drawn to the highest score.

Deep under the Egyptian sands, archaeologists find a mysterious pyramid inside which no human foot has yet stepped. When the pyramid is opened, a drama occurs with one of the workers, and the Americans decide to launch a robot with a camera there for security reasons. Alas, the robot was immediately broken by some unknown force, and a bunch of archaeologists with cameras at once decides to get there, in order not to check the performance of an expensive device (“NASA will kill us for losing the robot!”), or to amuse their own curiosity. Of course, after a couple of minutes they lose their way back, and find themselves trapped in a mysterious pyramid full of traps, secret passages and a huge amount of poop.
This film was the directorial debut of the Frenchman Gregory Levasser, a permanent screenwriter Alexander Age, and his pen belonged to the plots of such high-quality horrors as “Bloody Harvest”, “The Hills Have Eyes”, “Mirrors” and “Maniac”. Having received from the film giant Twentieth Century Fox about $ 5 million for his first directorial work, he boldly took up the business, that’s just showed that he was doing it even too early. At first, the picture is very intriguing - Egyptian pyramids have always been one of the most mysterious and intriguing themes in art and excite the imagination of many people who want to know what is hidden there and how they look from the inside. Unfortunately, the mystical charm of the plot evaporates immediately after the characters are inside. First, Levasseur turned out to be a very bad storyteller. He does not know how to immerse the viewer in the atmosphere, to escalate a state of fear and suspense, drives the action galloping across the Europeans, not allowing you to feel the situation, and relies solely on patterns, trying to scare sharp blows to the ears at unexpected moments and rapid runs do not-understand-what in front of the camera, reducing all the action to the phrases “we have to get out of here!” and “run, do not look back!”. As a result, a crowd of faceless cardboard characters in the same cardboard performance of unknown lyceums run stupidly through dusty caves and just as stupidly and sometimes even comically die. And, secondly, it is strange that Levasseur did not write the script himself, but preferred to be guided by the writing of some Daniel Mirsand and Nick Simon, who apparently decided to surprise the audience with a burst of their imagination, and eventually came up with something as the main monster that makes you think about their sanity. Unfortunately, all the descriptions will be in the field of spoilership, but it is only necessary to say that such outright mockery of ancient Egyptian mythology, understanding of its essence and attitude to ancient culture was not even in the failed works of the type “Talos Mummy” by Russell Malkehi. Separate “warm” words deserves and the technical side – presented on the screen monsters are sometimes depicted poor and “plastic” computer graphics, because of which it is impossible to believe that such a Wampoo was filmed at Fox Studios, and in some corner for a single viewing on TV-3 channel. It is not surprising that this desperately delusional picture did not pay for even its tiny budget at the box office in the United States and received a total defeat of criticism, so we hope that Levasseur will return to cooperation with Alexander Azha and their tandem will give the world much more decent genre films.
The Pyramid, if I remember correctly, is the directorial debut of a guy who wrote scripts about dangerous mirrors and hills with eyes. However, the start of the film makes an unambiguous pirouette in the direction of the equally fresh "Paris: City of the Dead" - an ambitious young archaeologist, her love interest, instilling complexes dad, cameraman (a panicky guy with a camera) and reporter for a lucky number. The whole company finds a very mysterious place where it must wait in the darkness of the ages for a very important discovery. Dad needs a restart of a stagnant career (and a grant), the daughter is eager to trample on the bones of conservative colleagues (a grant also does not hurt), her friend likes to dig into the cool iron (and also a grant to rent all this iron to pay), and the reporter and cameraman want to shoot a hit story for the local branch of Discovery, get an Emmy and earn on the wave of world fame. It is quite obvious that this cheerful company will have to descend into the ancient catacombs against all obstacles.
However, if "Paris" is a typical youth horror film, as funny as it is clumsy, "Pyramid" is quite capable of giving you a couple of unpleasant minutes and twitching nerves. The film stood out from the galaxy of identical twins by the presence of several decent scarecrows (yes, boo-effects, but made with amazing effort), funny references to “The Mummy” and Lara Croft, and also surprisingly invigorating finale.
I can attribute to the disadvantages not too pleasing cast - there is absolutely no one to worry about here, a negligent attitude to the ancient Egyptian mythology, on which the plot of the film is based, and a noticeable laziness that shook the screenwriters and gave rise to a lot of logical errors and absurdities in the behavior of the characters.
Overall, not bad for the debut and quite worthy of a one-time viewing. Don't shoot an archaeologist, he digs as hard as he can.
The film's budget is small. Total $5.1 million. So can a movie with that budget be good and interesting? In my opinion, the movie Pyramid proved that this is possible. The genre of the film is horror, but I would make some clarifications and call this genre a thriller. Thriller keeping the viewer in suspense with elements of horror.
It won't last. All minor episodes are shown concisely and briefly. The introductory part takes literally 10-15% of the film time. Then the most interesting thing begins. The main characters descend into the pyramid. Traveling through the labyrinths of the pyramid, the main characters tell a brief history of ancient Egypt. Give interesting facts, legends and life. However, I can not assess the historical component, since I am not an expert in ancient Egypt. But the narrative is very interesting. Throughout the film, the plot keeps the viewer in tension and excitement. There are even a few frightening moments. Music, in my opinion, also contributes to viewing. The plot of the film is logical and understandable. Of course, like any movie, there are a few downsides. The first is in the not quite logical behavior of the main characters and the phrase “And Votya would do differently.” And the second is special effects. We could have done better for 2014. But special effects can be attributed to the small budget of the film.
Summing up: The film is worth watching. And if you liked the movie “The Cave” ("The Cave 2005), then this film is for you.

Probably if the first of the main characters died two meters from the entrance, the rest would still not have guessed that you can go back on your tracks left on the floor, and not going into all the doors. Some people will say this movie, I will say it insanity. If you confuse and intrigue, then do it with all the smallest details, because the viewer is very attentive and will not ignore many ambiguous moments, especially when going with friends to horrors.
In such films, justice reigns, and it is not those who survive who are the most intelligent and adequate, but, on the contrary, those who have stirred in one place, and because of whom others are forced to suffer. The plot develops in a standard way, a group of people decides to climb for 5 minutes, where you should not go unprepared. But for these "heroes" nothing is impossible, so led by an experienced archaeologist, they counted shorts, a T-shirt, a pair of flashlights and a mask that will save you from a mosquito sneeze with all the necessary equipment to enter the pyramid, poisoned by a thousand-year-old gas. What could be more important to these brave people than nothing? Therefore, they do not consider it necessary to inform each other about gas poisoning, because they went there to... I don’t know why I don’t know. To save a robot that has obviously been broken and make sure of it, or to satisfy one's own infinite curiosity, which is characteristic of the young, but which must be able to cope with an experienced archaeologist and group leader. Then everything is like notes that everyone knows by heart, so let’s dwell on the positive points, of which there were two.
The first was scary twice, but this is not what a good horror film should boast about, especially since it was scary due to the sharpness of the moments, not the escalation of the situation.
And the second is the initial interest that caused the plot, because what you can only find inside the ancient pyramid, but it turns out that the main attraction was a bunch of archeologists-bezdary.
The phrase on the poster – “the hills have eyes” probably prepares us for the fact that even the hills have eyes, but not the characters, and describes the film as well as some incomprehensible face, which apparently withered from some other work. All this is confusing, most likely those who were engaged in the creation of this “masterpiece”, decided to confuse the viewer initially and prepare for the absolute illogicality of actions.
To summarize: a couple of times scary, after a while it is no longer interesting, predictable plot, although each time you are deceived and expect surprises.
I want to highlight a couple of funny moments, which nothing do not affect the final score, which I noticed at the beginning of the film:
- the face Christa Nicola, which at first in each frame keeps its mouth joyfully open to any word of the bandmates;
And the man who digs an empty shovel at the excavations of the pyramid, and diligently throws air instead of sand, and if there was sand there, he would bury what he had just excavated.
Have a good time!
All the trouble of not knowing. And curiosity, of course. Otherwise, you can not say why the heroes of the “Pyramid” after all they saw decided to try their luck and go in search of... imminent death.
At first glance, there is nothing special here: a group of researchers hungry for discoveries, an enclosed space, darkness and incomprehensible creatures living in its depths. But everything turns out to be not as simple as I could initially show, namely:
1) In some places, events begin to resemble real studies. There are stories about the gods, and wall paintings, and mysteries of the ancient Pyramids, created to eliminate uninvited guests. Agree, where you will still be able to see a corridor filled with sand at great speed, which will eventually end in a room with pointed pins on the floor.
(2) Heroes are not stupid: they do not run from side to side, they do not shout, they do not even panic. In general, they are adequate and moderately calm, compared with most films of this subject.
(3) And now the most interesting thing is the creatures that I already mentioned in the beginning. Who they will be in the final, almost impossible to calculate initially. Your guesses will not be justified, and therefore, I think you will be quite surprised what kind of Egyptian power pursued the heroes.
The downside is unreality. Still, the feeling that it couldn’t coexist was that by the end of the film, I had a feeling. Horrors are fantasy, horrors are history, horrors are mysticism, in other words, horrors that Egyptians cannot watch under any circumstances.
P.S. I would love to see how the evil that emerged from the Pyramid began to conquer our world.

The theme of evil ancient Egyptian gods, mummies and other evil spirits is not new for cinema. Of the most successful examples, of course, we can recall – the “Mummy”. Unfortunately, among those, the new horror film – “Pyramid” can not be attributed. Even at the stage of the announcement, the film caused some interest, the trailer looked good, and at the helm were people with experience in the genre of horror, but in the end came a very mediocre pseudo-documentary.
The inscriptions at the beginning of the film say that the picture is based on camera recordings may and would catch up with fear, but the creators missed one important detail - "Based on real events." Without it, all this foreplay makes little sense. However, the effect of the shaking camera inherent in pseudo-documentary films is present in abundance.
All the characters of the picture everywhere lay and commit acts that challenge the existence of logic as such, in principle. Literally, it looks something like, "Oh, there's a dark pit, I'm going to fall into it," or "Where there was a deadly thing going." We need to speak louder because we want to survive.” As a result, the entire compash, which scuffles around the pyramid, came out so inadequate that a rare viewer will empathize with them.

It's such a funny, low-budget youth horror movie. A group of American archaeologists (a blonde professor with good physical abilities is present) finds an ancient pyramid in the Egyptian emptiness. However, a feast of democracy begins in Cairo and they are ordered to evacuate the country. Naturally, the kindergarten begins. I mean, I'm not gonna eat porridge, I want to go to the pyramid right now, period! Sent a robot. The robot was attacked by something inside. Accordingly, people climbed deep into the strange pyramid. Here we go. To begin with, they got lost in an underground labyrinth... and then realized that they were not alone in the pyramid. Then there was crawling, running and hysterical whining. Despite some rather harsh scenes, for the most part, this picture was perceived by the audience as a black comedy. Because all the stamps of this genre were collected and dulled just awful.
American archaeologists knew the same mythology of ancient Egypt. The first pharaoh was Osiris, not the Falcon. And the hearts of sinners after the trial in the afterlife from the deceased inhabitants of Ta-Kemt did not devour Anubis at all, in vain they rolled such a barrel on the jackal-headed god, the gatekeeper and patron of embalming. Not to mention how strange it is that a person who works professionally in an Arab country has such difficulty speaking the local language. But at least the blonde managed to show off a little in her underwear.
And as for the local evil of the microuniverse scale. It is possible to allow survival in the hermetically sealed pyramid of a mystical monster. But not the second local evil - a certain population of living creatures (quite cute, by the way).
In short, the film is very, very weak. Of the advantages, it can only be noted that the entourage of Egypt itself. I don't remember the music. The desert, the ancient pyramid, the evil dormant in it. And so, the same recent relative “Paris – the city of the dead” was much cooler and more whole. It is even strange that among the producers of this craft was the famous and terrible Azha.
Summary:
I love horror movies and thrillers, so this movie got into the folder with the title – watch it. Especially since I love Egypt and its ancient history.
I'll tell you right away, I expected more. In general, it seems that the script was written from the series “heard the ringing, I don’t know where it is.” We collected some myths, decided to combine them in pieces and created this film.
It feels like something very interesting is going to happen right now, you wait, you wait, and it takes and it doesn’t. As a viewer, I have a sense of dissatisfaction. About the history of Egypt, about myths, about the legends of the pyramid itself, little is told. There is almost nothing about the relationships of the heroes. There is a sense of the superficiality of the film. As if it was lazy to make a movie well and made somehow.
It's a one-time movie. And he's not scary. There were 2 moments of fear and then from surprise. Better watch "The Mummy."
I’m not going to give up on my three whales. Let me remind you: script, actors, special effects and video.
So, this movie is a little uncomfortable to put on these shelves, but I will try. The script leaves much to be desired. It's simple and simple. Everything goes down to the smallest details. The ending of the film surprised me. Not because there is some unpredictable plot, but because they really showed it (I won’t polish it).
The cast, I personally do not know. Probably because their game didn’t tell me anything. They were more like stuffed dolls, which for the whole film, one by one, had to disembowel. Which, in fact, they did.
Special effects and video. I was confused that the director did not decide what character to make the film. Whether this is a documentary or not. It was kind of vague. The camera from the first person of a girl, then a reporter, then she goes and shoots everyone. From such movements of the camera, it seems that there is still someone else there (not some weirdo, but a person who really climbed with them, but we do not show him for unknown reasons).
I don’t know if I can point out the filmmakers’ mistake, but I’ll do it anyway, it’s my personal opinion, and that’s what I’m entitled to. Pyramid is not a horror movie, which I call horror. This is more of a fantastic thriller than horror and nothing more. I'd like to expand a bit on his genre description. Maybe his grade would have been higher. Because horror lovers, where there is a lot of blood or some scary girl, can not like this movie. This is my opinion.
I can’t say you should watch this movie because of the special effects or the quality of the video. Not for acting. But because of the script, and some of the things that were shown there, yes. You can watch this movie especially if you are interested in Egypt and its mysterious history.
In general, I would be interested to hear your opinion if you suddenly saw the film, write a review about it or another film. Your opinion will be useful to the cinema.
Don’t go for a walk in Africa, there are pyramids.
Pseudo documentary is gaining momentum and this is not accidental, because it is much more realistic to look at the characters through their eyes than from the outside - so you participate more in what is happening.
And now we finally got to the Egyptian theme, because all these horror stories with paranormal phenomena and devilishness are already quite tired. The film is interesting shooting in a confined space and unusual liveliness, and in general, the filmmakers tried to make everything realistic. I suppose the scenery was sham (most of it), but to make all this sham real, not very easy, and therefore respect to all who worked on the scenery - I of course meant the ancient Egyptians they set the style.
The film draws three components – this is isolation in space, darkness and sinister sounds, but there is a minus – do not have time to imbue with sympathy for the main characters, and therefore the experience is all reduced to zero. The plot is not bad, it is good to invent nothing, history has tried: just take famous historical tales and myths and tie them to the script, the most important thing is to submit well.
The Pyramid film will undoubtedly be interesting to seekers of truth and lovers of Egyptian themes, as well as everyone who loves high-quality horror films. I am glad that the story is over and if they start shooting another pyramid, it will be a different film because it squeezed everything to the maximum – if you approach it logically.
Such films, in addition to entertainment, carry a bit of informativeness, since if attention is not focused on the main characters, then you can think about the fact that humanity of those times was still those crazy people and how good it is that we are now living in the wrong times.

I don’t know if I should congratulate Gregory Levasser on his debut as the director of a new horror film called Pyramid. On the one hand, it is a new experience and a platform for experiments. On the other hand, attempts to make the film a good one were unsuccessful. The team working on the thriller, and could not fully decide how they are better to shoot: in the mode of “amateur shooting” from the scene or in the classic way. As a result, it was decided to use both. Not to say that it went to the benefit of the film, because the main task failed: full immersion and a sense of reality, the audience did not feel.
Plot. It is enough to read the description of the film to immediately understand: the plot here, as in many mediocre horror films, just for a tick. American archaeologists excavated the ancient Egyptian pyramid, then asked the authorities for permission to study it. They got rejected. What do you think? Well, of course, decided to spit on everything and still one eye to look into the mysterious tomb. They decided to launch a research drone there, after a while they lost contact with him. Naturally, we went looking for him. Nothing embarrassing? Manipulation with the viewer begins from the first minutes of screen time. All it took was a reason to break the order and go out and find adventure in one place. And even the drone didn't convince the fools.
In general, the storyline is very sagging. She suffers from terrible predictability (almost everywhere everything happens as expected, even attempts to scare), banality and a rather poor knowledge of ancient Egyptian mythology.
Fear/Strain. Cinema can keep in suspense for a while, then you can not believe that a few minutes ago something unusual happened. Fear? Well, there are 1-2 unexpected moments that can make some “Pharaohs” shudder and postpone a couple of their “pyramids” from the sudden appearance of any evil spirits. The rest of the time is devoted to either unsuccessful attempts to cause horror, or sophisticated murders of the main characters in the style of “Saws”.
Atmosphere. If you’re waiting for an interesting story puzzle or grand finale, forget it! Everything is so ridiculous and strange that at first I did not believe what I saw on the screen. The main villain with a well-drawn sinister computer muzzle in one episode is incredibly fast, and in another he dulls for 5 minutes. Everything is specially theatrically delayed to cause emotions in the viewer, but in the end it turns out to be absurd. Considering that 90% of the tape consists of wandering through the maze, and this is so monotonous... Well, it's all very bad.
Music. The song in the final credits is cool, before that the music is not remembered at all.
A few more disadvantages. I advise the creators to get acquainted with the mythology of ancient Egypt. The hearts of sinners were devoured by a monster named Amat, but not by Anubis himself. In addition, the history of cannibal cats is very doubtful. First, for so many years to survive simply unrealistic due to so many factors. Second, scientists have found entire cemeteries with mummies of cats, which suggests that they were buried together with the owner.
Pluses. Cinema is not a drop loaded, it is not drawn out, there are a few moments that can scare, hysterical jokes of James Buckley, beautiful chest Ashley Hinshaw ... that’s all. No, there's a pyramid with 3 faces! Where else can you see something like this?
Total.Nothing memorable horror, far from the first category, and once. I don’t recommend it.

(52%), do not climb into the triangular pyramids. There was a lot of emphasis on this at the beginning of the film.
Egyptian pyramids and technological advances, as well as new archaeological discoveries and ancient gods made up the plot of the Pyramid. The film, the creators of which decided not to depart from the standards of template horror, thereby depriving themselves of an already small chance to be seen in the film industry.
Having made a small curtsey towards the political component of the life of modern Egypt, director Gregory Levasser does not immediately begin the main action part of the film, but decides to spend about 15 minutes from the already small hour and a half timekeeping to demonstrate the everyday life of the heroes, which is poor even by the standards of the lowest budget Latin American series. To watch how the main characters in the person of archaeologists who are father and daughter to each other, find out the vicissitudes of love relationships and swear about whether to study the pyramid found under the sand is not that unpleasant, but very uncomfortable, since the meager vocabulary and limited thinking of the actors, projected on the screenwriters who wrote “Pyramid”.
In the mysterious pyramid, by the way, a group of archaeologists and journalists will go and then begin the very horrors for which everything was filmed. The plot is very reminiscent of the recent film “Paris is the City of the Dead”, and “Pyramid” loses to it on all points – from the inability to cause fear in the viewer, to the disproportionately distributed time between the action and the introductory part. In both paintings, the action takes place in a closed space and is captured by a found footage. But in “Paris” it was caused by production conditions (the shooting took place in the catacombs, where it was not possible to use a stationary camera), and in “Pyramid” the “effect of presence” is most likely due to the desire to save, and it is not always clear on what “amateur” camera made a particular frame, where it is located and who keeps it.
The main substantive parallel between the work of Levasser and John Eric Doudle is the use of mythology. Alchemy and religious texts, with minimal visual effects in the catacombs near Paris, could leave a rare viewer indifferent. But in the “Pyramid” Egyptian mythology reduced to human dimension in the literal sense of the word: using not the most highly professional graphics, the filmmakers fantasize about what the gods of the Nile coast could look like.
With all the shortcomings in the form of indistinct dialogues, illogical behavior of the characters and the absence of frightening moments (rustles and sand can not be attributed to the standings), the “Pyramid” closer to the final still had a small chance to add a couple of points to its asset. It consisted in the use of Egyptian mythology as the dominant, if not the entire narrative, then the finale. The last third of the film closely exploits the story of Osiris and Anubis, but instead of adding an element of mysticism, the director decides to show the famous story of the Libra of Truth from the Book of the Dead as if it were one of the plot lines of the film Silent Hill. In addition, cornily using religious text, Levasseur deprives the character of James Buckley of the opportunity to reveal. Where his hero, the merry Fizi, could contribute to the development of the story of the “heart and per”, there remains only a crumpled ending, without ventures and any philosophy.
Childhood friends Gregory Levasser and Alexander Azha are not the first time working together in the field of film horror. “Pyramid”, however, did not become their outstanding creation, since in this case Levasseur and Aja acted as director and producer, respectively, and had nothing to do with the creation of the script. Therefore, you should not expect a revelation of the level of “Maniac” with Elijah Wood. Most likely, if the script were written by Gregory and Alexander, and not the little-known pen workers Daniel Mirsand and Nick Simon, the potential of a mystical horror film would be realized. But, no matter how sad it may sound, “Pyramid” falls, if not in the category of thrash, but on the shelf of interesting films for once. It can only interest fans of any of the cast. Scientists from the film, passing through the corridors of the ancient pyramid, did not pay attention to the priceless letters surrounding them, it is not at all shameful for viewers to do the same in relation to the “Pyramid”.
Dark maze. Ancient death traps. Mystical hostile creatures. A hint of the depth of the idea. Convincing ambient. Blood, dismemberment, hardcore. All components of the horror, claiming success. However, success is doubtful.
A dark maze in which the action is filmed on camera. It would seem like a complete immersion. But no, the idea is hopelessly ruined: the cameras of the characters shoot well if half the picture. No diving.
Traps, ghostly enemies, a sea of blood. Of course they are. Unfortunately, the ghosts of enemies are revealed around the middle of the film, after which it is difficult to look at them without laughing. Traps are not original. We have seen all this dozens of times. Which is typical, mainly in video games and cartoons.
A deep philosophical thought, which can be expressed by the phrase: "Idiots will survive." Characteristic of most horror films, the death of adequate characters is quick and merciless. However, it is good that there are adequate characters there.
The genre of the film has amazing flexibility in relation to the audience. For a person who does not know anything about the archaeology and mythology of ancient Egypt - a good horror movie. Do you know a little bit about mythology? Have you been on expeditions? Welcome to a new comedy, unrestrainedly stupid and pointless. Archaeologists pull stones, destroy priceless monuments and immediately read dusty hieroglyphs. It seems that the unfortunate Indiana Joneses were punished for this.
A film for fools about fools and their inglorious death by wise Egyptian deities. Of positive emotions, only the naked cruelty of injuries is rare in recent times.

Exhausted and hungry, they have not seen the sunlight for a long time, vainly trying to find a way out of the endless nightmare. “Dan, you don’t think we’ve been here before, that we’re fucking walking around... we’ve seen this – a group of people go where they shouldn’t have gone, they can’t get out, and eventually something paranormal kills them.” Oh, yeah, it's still pitched as a semi-documentary video! “Nick, this isn’t Shakespeare, just write this pyramid nonsense.” Returning to their laptops, they did not notice how their barely lit room smelled cold, the only working lamp began to go out ... they slowly plunged into the hopeless darkness.
The directorial debut of screenwriter Gregory Levasseur, known for such films as “Maniac” and “The Hills Have Eyes”, caused some interest – after all, the topic is quite interesting for horror, and stories about mazes are often full of paranoid horror, but in fact everything turned out to be extremely sad. And the film does not hide it from the very beginning – “everything you will see was filmed in the preparation of materials for ...” and in this spirit, which means we are again back in the universe of “The Blair Witch”, with rattling cameras and close-ups of faces ... it would seem, but in “Pyramid” there is no home video effect, moreover, in many cases the camera is not attached to the acting characters, which simply destroys the original idea to create an atmosphere of reality. And not all of the film is such an approach, the best way all this was combined in “Grave Seekers”, where you could imagine for a second that everything is real. In “Pyramid” the actors play so unconvincing that it is difficult to believe anything at all.
It's hard to believe they're archaeological scientists, it's hard to believe they're entrenched in Egypt instead of in a backyard sandbox. And frankly, the characters in the film are extremely flat, and for this reason it is probematic to empathize with their misadventures in the pyramid. In Levasseur, the action at first is so rapid that it is more like errands in the style of Benny Hill, where a whole medley of various creatures, traps and other things runs for our heroes. The authors did not even try to show that the characters are really scared, that they are really confused. Instead, they were mowed right and left in extremely dark sets, and sometimes it was difficult to understand what was happening at all.
But what is most disappointing is the story itself. I mean, it's all bad even for C-category horror. Unworked characters – fine, but the lack of adequate Bu-effect – this is really strange. In almost every scene, the source of fear is predictable. And if you think about it, the authors worked only on the vile deaths of the heroes, instead of any attempts to really scare the viewer. Well, the finale - all these plasticine ineffects are below any criticism. In fact, the last 20 minutes of the film are ugly stupid, and drag down the rest of the film. And after watching it, it is not clear at all what the film was about and why it was shot? Suspense - no, acting - no, poorly logical scenario - no. Instead, a weakly spelled connection with myths, and the feeling that it was not the heroes who were trapped, but the viewer.
It was as if the heart had been ripped from the chest.
Archaeologists using modern technology find an Egyptian pyramid in the desert. But by the time the workers finally get to the entrance, the military appears. They are ordered to suspend excavations and take scientists out of the country. Archaeologists decide to take a desperate step, send an expensive robot into the pyramid, but he very quickly disappears from the radar. Then a group of brave men goes in search of him.
The director of “Pyramid” Gregory Levasseur has long worked in the film business and very well understands what the modern audience needs. His style and attitude to detail is based on what is fundamental in paintings of this genre. He does not understand that trying to calculate luck and success is hardly possible. Because the public, who sees that they are trying to conduct it without giving anything in return, will leave the picture and its creators with nothing.
The original version of the script was very far from what can and should be shown on the big screen. But it was reworked many times, made more logical and less violent. In the final version, archaeologists became a father and daughter, and new traps appeared in the pyramid, the plot itself became more mythological.
The operator did a filigree job, he managed to show clearly not the largest decoration of the pyramid, as a huge mechanism. The creators also benefited from the desire to combine a shaking, realistic picture with a standard method of shooting. This made the “wooden” heroes a little closer and clearer to the audience and justifies a lot of unnecessary shots.
The special effects in the film are as if the creators rented them, everything is unfinished and very much knocked out of the frame.
Inflating music suddenly appears and just as suddenly disappears.
The Pyramid is another example of how Americans love to deal with alien mythology and history.
