When the wave of endless kung fu fighters with imitators of Bruce Lee by the late 1970s. subsided, the cinema of Hong Kong was flooded with pictures of a slightly different genre - comedy. Continuing to demonstrate to the viewer chic fights and mastery of actors with various types of weapons, the directors tried to cheer him up. Somewhere the humor seemed flat, somewhere on the contrary – funny and witty. And the tone of such tapes was set by the films of Sammo Hung and Yuen Voo-ping.
"Eternal feud" (or in another version "Strange couple") is one of these comedy kung fu fighters, where there is a lot of humor and fights. The director and director of the fighting scenes was Chia Jung Liu, who before that, in the same year starred in Sammo Hunga in "Drace". Now Sammo himself starred in one of the main roles in Lew.
The plot of this picture is insanely simple. The whole storyline boils down to a dispute between two of the greatest warriors who can not decide for several decades, which is cooler – a sword or a spear. As a result, they decide to grow a shift so that their students solve this issue in a duel. But the peculiarity of the film is that the elderly swordsman performed by Sammo Hung pupil played Chia Jung Liu, and the elderly master of the spear in the person of Chia Jung Liu, the role of apprentice went to Sammo Hung. Both actors appeared twice in the film. And besides, both are equally good at what a spear is, what a sword.
To the merits of "Eternal Enmity" I would refer the fights. After all, this is the most valuable in the films of the genre of kung fu action movie. I enjoyed the performance of some actors. In addition to Hung and Liu, the bearded Ka-Jan Leung (a bandit with a scar on his face), Din Shek (a rude suitor). There was humor in the picture, too. However, the film made a mixed impression. You can see the difference between Sammo Hung’s films and those of other directors. So the level of the tape was weak and falls short even to the masterpieces of Voo-pin “Snake in the shadow of the eagle” and “Drunk master”. So for a single viewing will do, but to review the “Eternal enmity” I would not.
