The samurai time is over. Time to save the planet! I learned about this film after watching the video for the anti-government song "Testify" of the notorious "Rage Against the Machine". In the clip, strange-looking robots represent the forces of darkness. With a laser beam, they blast the surface of the earth, and out of the fire and ashes arises the great evil of America: George W. Bush and Al Gore. People run away in panic. At the end of the clip, these same robots try to strangle a few guys of the Mongoloid race. I was very intrigued, found the film itself and with great interest began to watch.
By the way, the film is far 61 years old, and, unfortunately, Bush and his opponent were not represented in it, but there are at least plenty of robots. I don’t think it’s worth saying that aliens from outer space were burning with a desire to incinerate our poor, long-suffering planet, because the vast majority of alien films are about this. But this picture still has its own twist: the planet will finally be saved by non-Americans. In addition, as a pleasant plot surprise, I would single out the following fact: people are not alone in confronting foreign invaders. They are assisted by a superhero of unknown origin in a plastic helmet and a cellophane cloak, who also operates an intergalactic aircraft. On his first appearance, the hero rescues a small group of eight-year-old boys who are attacked by robots. Showing his skills in oriental martial arts, he easily calms the ironheads, who during the battle never even waved at him. Apparently, uninvited guests planned to take over the Earth using only intellectual abilities: this was not the case.
I want to dwell on how this hero was named by the rescued guys. "Iron tip." Alas, I don’t speak Japanese, but in my opinion, in any case, the translator should have chosen a more convincing name for the superhero and ... a more sonorous one for the Russian audience.
Several times during the film, those same guys sing a funny song about the tip than remind some communist zombie pioneers: “Our dream shines in the rays of the morning sun!” It moves like the wind and defeats our enemies – the Iron Tips! We just need to replace the name of the superhero with the surname of Ilyich, and we get a typical chap about the leader of the world proletariat and the hero of May Day Subbotniks.
But let's not get distracted. The tip makes itself felt more than once. His supersonic machine appears on the horizon when the local population is terrorized by soldiers with painted lipstick. Just a few minutes ago, these, say, "unconventional" soldiers came out of a tree struck by lightning during a thunderstorm (the Japanese never cease to amaze). With his powerful laser gun, the tip solves a problem with them, and about a miracle: dying soldiers, writhing in pain, turn into dying robots. Well, now we know what it is.
At the end, the viewer is waiting for an epic final battle between good and evil. Two forces converge on a common battlefield – the notorious planet Earth. I will not spoil the impressions of those who decide to view this picture. But know: You are waiting for silent five-minute scenes with battles of spaceships, stuffed with Japanese specialties from the sixties. And don't let it scare you. The explosions in the film are quite realistic. The nuclear mushroom they created made me wonder for a moment whether the Japanese had documented the recent events in Nagasaki. Knowing the Japanese would not surprise me. They are unpredictable people.
But there's more to it. During one of the final scenes of alien shelling of peaceful Japanese cities, the screen suddenly appears. Hitler. Only in a hundred-meter flat format on one of the office buildings. The Fuehrer "throws a ziga" to the Japanese people, large hieroglyphs adorn his head and the inscription "Mine Kampf" on the right is already in Latin. Suddenly, an alien laser hits this building: Hitler, along with offices and cardboard letters, flies to hell. It's fascinating. I think that the director thought globally and this episode wanted to tell us that Japan went down the wrong path during World War II, that the cursed fascism was decisively ended, and that the Japanese people have a bright and beautiful future!
The result is as follows: The Japanese even then could surprise and present unexpected surprises, even if this is not without a bit of madness (which can be quite attributed to the national line). But this absurdity with a positive charge looks harmoniously against the background of the general picture of what is happening. He makes the film in an incredible way not only “seeable”, but even interesting and in some sense fascinating. In general, I just wanted to say that if in Japan during intergalactic wars you are suddenly attacked by a man in military uniform with grinded lips, then this is normal.
