«Sign «☮» the Times» I can’t say I’m a big fan of Prince, but I don’t think I can ignore his work and influence on world music. And if his major films, such as “Purple Rain” and “Under the Cherry Moon” can cause polar feelings (despite the fact that the ballad “Purple Rain” is the crown song of Prince, and the film itself is an Oscar winner for best recording music), then after “Sign “,” the Times” there are absolutely no doubts about Prince’s artistry.
This is a truly expressive concert film, at the same time unlike other concert films. There is a huge number of purely cinematic finds - installation transitions, camera receptions, hits, several game inserts, shooting from different angles ... At one point, the camera begins to rotate in time with the game on the drums of Prince's constant companion in the 80s - Sheila I.
This film is music itself that has taken on a visual form. In one scene, Prince himself sits for the percussion instrument, and Sheila performs several verses. It all looks very dynamic, beautiful and sexy (Oh, sheila's nipples). Prince's music in Sign "е" the Times is both pop and rock, there are jazz moments with saxophone play. It's emotion and love! To such music I want not to communicate, but to make love.
What the performer does on stage is amazing: intersperses choreographic sketches with singing live. Everything works at the same high level. I like this man, he did not protrude cheap machismo, and was himself, did not seek to please. And at the same time, he did. He carried light within himself and infected the public. In the film sound compositions from the eponymous album of the artist (at least most of them).
