This film is the best confirmation of the high quality of American cinema of the seventies. The circles from Coppola, Scorsese, Altman, Bogdanovich films diverged so widely that low-key films shot in polygenre have endless charm. Guercio’s only film is on a par with the search for Mr. Goodbar and the path of Cutter, about loneliness and stoicism, lack of life prospects. In part, this kind of hangover mood is a reaction to the unhealthy riot of the sixties, a period of sobering up, an extreme understanding of oneself and one’s place in life, the absence of illusions.
In this film, loneliness is shown on the example of a strongly provincial town, in which even with a dream at the level of design is difficult.
The film is definitely not a masterpiece, minimalistic, with an original author's handwriting and the desire to capture close-up wardrobe items. The songs of the seventies are as good as the movies, the staged scenes of motorcycle chases with rapid falls are very good.
Fans of minor American films of the seventies will definitely like movies.
