How would you feel about the film if you did not know that it was made by a rather scandalous singer?
This is the essence of the social bias that Madonna showed in the beautiful, almost magical love story of Wallis Simpson and Prince Edward VIII.
The storyline is divided into two lines - Wallis, an ordinary girl, the wife of a rather successful psychiatrist, who is in an abusive relationship, is subjected to beatings and betrayals by her husband. And the heroine through the years finds in the story of Wallis Simpson invisible strength, support, inspiration that helps her cope with a difficult life situation. Living in the role of Simpson, Wallis reproduces all the historical events of the time through museum exhibits and the study of the history of the abdication of Edward VIII overcoming the condemnation of society, sincere love and support.
On camera work and scenario: the work is wonderful! You can see the skillful work of stylists, operators, selection of clothes, interior hairstyles, up to cosmetics. Everything is very beautiful and makes you fall in love with the picture, immerse yourself and get aesthetic pleasure.
After the film remained indelible impressions, I learned about Wallis Simpson and Edward VIII, how this is a great love story.
Regarding the critics and drowning of the film Madonna: The film is accused of tearfulness, but this is only said by people who have not experienced this in their lives. The footage shown is quite real and this is how the victim of violence feels and her recovery from the crisis.
The film is a masterpiece.
The sharp criticism only speaks about how biased society is towards public figures, which is what Madonna's song Masterpiece says.
The film is a masterpiece, the song is a masterpiece, and Madonna’s work and talent is an underappreciated masterpiece.
An example of how the personal attitude of critics towards the director can overwhelm the collections and evaluations of a film around the world.
But this movie should be seen by everyone. I watched it because of the song and did not know who the director was, so my attitude is objective and impartial to the creator.
Perhaps it’s a beautiful film of its kind, if you look at it from the point of view of sentimentality, and it’s understandable that it appealed to the female audience. After all, this film is made in the spirit of classic “women’s novels”, superimposed on a kind of historicality, and it tells what women dream of: that any unsightly (“attractive – polite fome is an ordinary word”, so the heroine says about herself) can one day marry a prince or even a king, and plunge into the world of brilliance, luxury (”I dress best” – again the words of the heroine), envy and intrigue, which, for all its unsightliness, looks for many still delightfully desirable. Somehow. Oh, come on. And most importantly, in order to captivate the prince / king, you do not need to impress with spiritual beauty, uniqueness and talents, you just need to “watch your face and the place where you sit”, in time to say: Oh, Your Majesty, what a difficult job you have and how smart you are!” Undoubtedly, a convenient recipe )), and most importantly, easy and very pleasant ) . The presentation of the story is also absolutely template for its genre of female romantic fantasy: the main character (although here they are). As many as two), written with great warmth and love, and the rest ... well, so that it was clear that they are “the rest”, and are not suitable for the main. The result: the historical line turned out to be very conditionally historical, and the modern one is not clear why it is present. I couldn't finish it, it was very boring and very template. . The music is beautiful and visual as well. But someone will certainly like it. So, enjoy the viewing!
A romantic, sensual picture intertwining two fates, two epochs, two love. The stunning story of an American woman from the last century, which shocked the public, helps a resident of modern Manhattan Wallis fill the lack of love in her marriage.
Men are best able to shoot women’s stories, but women also try to keep up. Once again you can see this, starting to watch this incredibly beautiful love story. The plot of the film constantly moves us in time between the past, where King Edward VIII renounces the throne for Wally Simpson, a married woman who charms him so much that he does not find the strength to govern without her support, and the present, in which Wallis wants to feel the same power of love. Honor, crown, respect, the future of the country – everything is at stake, but this does not stop two people loving each other.
In the film, many footage chronicles how the love story of the king and a married woman, whom he was said to have become obsessed with, unfolded. Everything is logical, step by step and insanely beautiful. You can see the sympathies, these languid views, experiences, all this is facilitated by a good caste of actors. The magical soundtracks and enveloping charm of the era – all working to figure out what love should be, so that a man born to become a king and rule the Empire, gave up his destiny for the sake of a woman & #39; as Madonna herself defined her idea. And it was absolutely 100% successful.
By the way, the music of Polish composer Abel Kozhenowski is incredibly magical! I found and downloaded the entire soundtrack for the film, as well as highlight the final heartbreaking ballad Madonna 'Masterpiece'. It sounds at the very end of the film, for the most patient, in the last 4 minutes, when the final credits are already coming. I have a pleasant aftertaste from the film: it has a special vintage style, the fleur of the era of the 30s of the last century evokes memories of 'The Great Gatsby'. And again, music! So necessary, tender, pinching, caressing, piercing, it envelops and fascinates. In the sense of taste and style Madonna can not deny. To all connoisseurs of the beautiful and beautiful, I highly recommend watching this love story.

The love story, which excites the minds of several generations, did not leave Madonna Louise Ciccone indifferent. At the beginning of the two thousand she moves to London to his faithful, and for a good ten years of life on the foggy Albion, apparently, begins to be very interested in one of the most scandalous stories of the British royal court. Namely the one in which Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David - the son of King George V, the crown prince and part-time noble psychopath - falls in love with a commoner Wallis Simpson - an American, at that time in her second marriage.
Madonna, as a true emancipe, wants to present this story to the world on behalf of Mrs. Simpson, later Duchess of Windsor. After all, in addition to the most beautiful story, it is also known as the most strange, contradictory and illogical. It is known that Edward was distinguished by a rather complex character, tendencies to depression and obsessions. One such idea for him one day becomes Wallis. Only at first glance it looks beautiful - abdication for the sake of the beloved woman. In fact, no one really forced Edward to renounce. And Wallis understood this, evidence of this is at least those numerous engravings of ambiguous nature on precious gifts that lovers presented to each other on occasion and without. And perhaps the letters she wrote to her relatives and even her ex-husband. Of course, the prospect of becoming the wife of the king tempted Wallis more than being the wife of abdication. But it was a long way, and the road back as if there were no at all. And this load throughout his life allegedly put pressure on Wallis, for a long time forced to hide in France, then in the Bahamas, and, as they say, to make a good mine in a bad game. This is one of the theories of exposing the scandalous novel, which Madonna adheres to.
Those most famous jewels of the couple of Dukes of Windsor served as an inspiration for the new director. Madonna participates in auctions and even acquires one of the famous tiger bracelets Cartier, once owned by the Duchess. The film is in full swing.
For Andrea Riseborough, the leading actress, the best couturiers create about sixty costumes, Cartier recreates jewelry. Just like a real Duchess. Riseborough looks alive in the image of Wallis. And even though her features are a little more tender than the original, this does not prevent her from almost reliably conveying the facial expressions of her heroine, her gestures and body movements.
The plot is based on two lines of narrative. The first is the end of the last century, namely 1998 - an auction at which many personal belongings of the famous couple were exhibited. A young girl named Wally lives with her unloved husband, tries to get pregnant, out of boredom constantly goes to her former job in an auction house. The second is actually the thirties of the last century, the rapid development of the novel by Wallis and Edward. These storylines are intertwined. Wallis of the thirties is Wally of the nineties and gives her all sorts of guidance and other life advice. This is a clear example of how the most beautiful love story of the twentieth century resonated in the hearts of millions, and literally every second girl in America is named Wallis.
In general, the film is a kind of random jumble of scenes. It's tight and boring in places. One storyline is very distracting from the other. If you return just a few cut during the editing moments, it is possible to make two separate full-length tape. Screening one of the most beautiful love stories of the twentieth century, do not be distracted by other less beautiful and not so interesting.
The film did not have the proper success with the public. Many accused him of having historical blunders, and someone did not give him a chance because of a biased attitude towards the director. The only fact that you can not argue with is that a beautiful love story was told in a truly beautiful way.
It seems that despite all attempts to express herself on topics of interest, Madonna will not be able to build a solid niche in cinema, only now in the directorial field. The second directorial work of the pop diva was the historical drama “We”. We believe in love" (localization in Russian is difficult, because W.E. is the first letters of the names of lovers, and the pronoun "we"), which is not so far removed from the previous indistinct tragicomedy "Dirt and Wisdom. It was not worth it, after all, inexperienced hands to take up such a serious topic of the history of the relationship between King Edward VIII of Great Britain and an ordinary American Wallis Simpson in the distant 30s of the XX century. Although Madonna put part of her personal story into the narrative and had long hatched a plan to create this project, the production came out weak and confused due to the lack of directorial skills. Her work for the second time failed, not interested neither critics nor viewers - with an investment of $ 15 million, the picture did not collect even one million at the world box office.
The narrative is divided into two related scandalous stories (although it turns out that they are not related to each other much), one of which takes place in the 30s of the last century in the house of the Winsors between King Edward VIII (James D’Arcy) and twice married American Wallis Simpson (Andrea Riseborough), for the love of which, the King challenges public opinion and intends to abdicate, and the second unfolds in 1998 in modern New York in the form of an unhappy relationship between a married couple of 28-year-old Wallie W. Wally feels connected to Wallis and tries to sort out herself and her relationship, often visiting the exhibition of the Royal family of Windsor, where he meets a security guard, a native of Russia, Yevgeny Kolpakov (Oscar Isaac).
Obviously, Madonna should not have weaved a second story of the modern era into her film. This line looked superfluous and only distracted both the director’s attention from the completeness of the disclosure of the “historical” line, and the audience, not making it clear why it was needed at all. The need for a second line does not even justify the fact that the parents of the modern Wally Winthrop were obsessed with this story of the last century and decided to name their daughter after the wife of the king, and that both girls were with the same difficult fate. Also, there was a feeling that the actions of the heroine Abby Cornish are devoid of common sense and logic. The director’s attempt to cram into his film two eras, feelings, love, passion, complex relationships, an abundance of costumes, colorful interiors, and other pleasant little details of life, in the end, divided it into two different, because even an indistinct ending does not explain and does not give any hint of how these two temporal parallels with each other were called to cooperate, and how the problem of the modern heroine was solved thanks to the historical character. Not clear.
And the only thing that is remembered after watching this messy and messy film, where no character was really revealed, is the flawlessly designed picture - the operator Hagen Bogdanski with taste and sense of style conveyed the interiors and atmosphere, especially the era of the 30s, perfectly selected costumes and decorations of the heroes of this era (the film even received an Oscar nomination for the best costumes), even up to underwear and other small tsets and trinkets. At least somehow helps the situation excellent musical accompaniment of Abel Korzhenevski (nomination for the Golden Globe) and the song of Madonna herself (it still wait - it sounds in the second part of the final credits). “Masterpiece”, for which Madonna deservedly received the award “Golden Globe” – another extra proof that her element is the world of music, not cinema, which, in addition to the latest unsuccessful acting experiences, has already twice shown dubious director.
I remembered this picture, reading reviews of the acclaimed “Matilda”. Some professional critics have compared these pictures. Personally, I watched W.E. more than five years ago at the Art Theatre. I still remember the feeling of a lump in my throat on the final scene with the Duke. This movie is made for me, so it echoed at least in my female Russian, but the soul of a technologist. Not in the souls of critics.
I liked the film for its intellectual quality. Lots of thoughts, attention to detail, and the Sex Pistols and Mancini on the soundtrack. Metaphors are many – the image of a Russian – a humanitarian guy working as a security guard, in a Scottish kilt, a bear cap and behind a piano – in general the best metaphor of the national mentality.
Many reproached the picture for stupidity. I, the daughter of a civil engineer, have my own opinion about Madonna, the daughter of a leading design engineer. If you as a child did not like quantum physics and were not in school a geek girl who dreamed that guys would stop being afraid of your excellent grades – this movie is unlikely to hook. It is for despised cinematographers "tadpoles".
A separate "Thank you" from figure skating lovers. A couple of years ago, Evgenia Medvedeva won her first World Championship (as well as Europe and Grand Prix Final) to the music and with the image for this film. So time has put everything in its place - this film has more ratings on Kinopoisk than on IMDB. And the rating is a whole point higher. I don’t think that in five years they will write about Matilda.

Incredibly beautiful film. Beautiful in everything. I haven't seen anything like that.
Madonna is talented, as subtly she was able to feel "The Love of the Last Century." The greatest love of the twentieth century.
Director Madonna was able to show that truth is a subjective thing, depending on the point of view. From here, a parallel storyline is created, where the action takes place in modern times.
Wallis and Edward
They both made huge sacrifices. However, they, as I understood, really loved each other, and eventually learned to live with these feelings, found a compromise - because all love is a compromise, and there is no point in seeking perfection, it does not exist.
Wallace Winthrope
The history of the modern woman. From despair to the acquisition of meaning. The chance that life gives us.
Madonna found one of the most controversial love stories and tried to explain that in such unions are born not only the strongest feelings, but also suffer from publicity and general discussion both, not one. The director confidently manipulates the plot, mixing, uniting and again dissociating the characters. Wallace is a woman who changed the fate of Britain.
And I'm right next to you.
Like a robber in the night.
I stand in front of a masterpiece.
And I can't tell you why.
It hurts so much.

At 3 a.m., I remembered that I had been going to see this movie for a long time. First of all, I like James D’Arcy (from Dot Over the i). Second, it's Richard Coyle (ok, I only realized that while watching the movie). And thirdly, I watched the movie because of Oscar Isaac. “You can’t be so beautiful in the world.” For example, beauty is a subjective concept. But he's a cool guy (or maybe I have a secret love for Guatemalans). The film tells about the combined parallel of the history of two women: the history of ancient times and modern history. The story of the woman for whom the king gave up the crown. And the story of a woman who couldn't get away from her goat husband. The joint already begins in this. But later. In the meantime, the pros. Many people criticize each other’s stories. They say that the story jumps back and forth, but in general, I liked this technique. The video series in the film is very pleasant to the eye. It's bohemian, but the eye doesn't callous. And in general, the constant change of frame, which infuriated me so much in Lucy, here, on the contrary, pleased. Maybe it's the muted tones. It's like a movie was shot with a lamplight. And an amazing soundtrack. The filmmakers must understand that it doesn’t matter what they shoot, even if it’s a specific slag, but a good soundtrack is the key to success. Music can smooth things out. Someday our film welders will understand this. The newsreel elements and references to it being a real story were good. Views and landscapes, costumes and hairstyles. Everything is fine in the movie except the most important thing. Plot. And this fat minus erased all impression of the film. Yes, I liked the way the film alternated footage of stories. But in the end, in one story the mystery of love was never revealed, and in another the whole dramatic effect was scattered. Perhaps the film is for those who are aware of the history of the former British King Edward and the ordinary American Wallace. This is the first time I’ve heard (and frankly, I don’t care about the light bulb). But again, for the viewer who is not aware of this great love, left no food for thought. Why did he love her so much? For what? Just because she was American, danced well and made a great martini? There were almost no feelings in the frame as such. It was more like a newsreel, where there's no time for all of your feelings. The story of N2 is about a girl named after the American woman who stole the king’s heart. History is modern and banal as a square. The whole dramatic effect was centered on muted tones and properly staged music. I haven't actually seen the drama. History hasn't caught on. She married a very rich man. The rich guy turned out to be a goat who goes left and doesn't give his wife because he doesn't want children. If he's such a jerk, take him and hit him with a chair, after all! Women did not fight for their damn rights to make you look like a frightened sheep and almost go into the fog of flashbacks from the life of a completely different woman.
The film is beautiful but cold. It has no sincerity and no message as to why we still believe in it.
Let someone throw a slipper at me, but I’ll be honest – I don’t like Madonna, I don’t consider her a sex symbol, a beauty icon, I’m not interested in creativity. Just, of course, respect that she keeps herself in good shape and gives a head start to the young. Out of her huge career, I’m only attracted to a couple of songs and then losing on the song Hung up, which I liked, as it turned out from the song Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! are ABBA bands that I love and respect. Therefore, for her directing, I did not expect any signs of sympathy. Yes, when the film came out, I didn’t run straight to the movies just because it’s Madonna’s work and didn’t pay any special attention to it, even what the picture was about, I wasn’t interested. To watch this movie I was forced to participate in it Katie McGrath and his sudden appearance in the TV program. But it completely changed my mind.
So let me tell you right away – I was impressed by the choice of the topic. For this, Madonna thank you very much, because she did not shoot the same type of lean film, which is now a pond, or some vulgar nonsense. Many actors try their hand at directing, less often - figures from the world of music, which is often unsuccessful. The work of Madonna, I can appreciate the highest ball - everything is done very qualitatively and professionally. I didn’t know the story of Edward and Wallis before watching the film, but I did get enough of it. I understood how it all started, how it unfolded and how it ended. This is the main task of the movie – to convey to the viewer the idea, and not to make him after watching to go through Wikipedia and various sources in search of information “what I just looked at, who it was, when it happened?”, etc. The only thing that bothered me a bit the first time was the leap from the past to the future in one shot. That is, a sharp change of plan and immediately I was confused about what I was talking about. But it was only the first time, then I realized that the film is built on flashbacks, only in the first such jump should indicate the year, otherwise you really could get lost. But the idea with the second storyline is good. The two fates are similar, including the peculiarities of their time. It would seem that in our century there are almost no prejudices left, and Wally of the 21st century could get into a situation like Wallis in the early 20th century. The moral here is to look for your prince. Only not in the literal sense, not in the titles, it is important to find your man who will become a prince for you.
It was a pleasure for the actors. There were no simple images, even minor characters were interesting. Katie McGrath, although she had a small role, played brightly, she really suits this image of the 30s. Of all the films, it was the most delicious. Andrea Riseborough and James D’Arcy conveyed their images well, they could see the characters. Abby Cornish organically fit into the film. Her Wally took over some moments of the fate of Wallis Simpson and so, at the end of their relationship with William, her appearance was quite justified - a faded look, fatigue, apathy, the search for solace in the love of the Dukes of Windsor. The actress reminds me a lot of Amy Adams and Nicole Kidman, there are some similarities with them. Oscar Isaac was not bad, he spoke Russian well and generally did well in the role. In general, the main characters are wonderful. Richard Coyle in the image of William caused disgust, it was the image itself, and the actor perfectly presented his hero. It is clear that William is a vile, selfish, narcissistic beast. Still very much repelled the character of Natalie Dormer, so malicious, cunning and pathetic turned out to her Elizabeth.
The love story of the main characters is not trivial. In the history of such examples of renunciation still need to look. Usually kings change women like gloves, even those who immediately arouse the strongest passion. It shows love, not passion, together in sorrow and in joy. Although after Edward’s abdication they had a sediment, which is quite understandable, they lived all their lives together, cherishing each other.
Plus, the film is decorated with excellent costumes and beautiful landscapes that convey the mood of the era. Based on all of the above, I will appreciate this picture as it deserves:
There are so many movies about love, but there are movies that are special. Very often, a famous director flashes in the credits, actors are famous, but I personally do not see the point, except for good shots. I was lucky enough to see, hear, and feel this movie. I’ve noticed that movies with two parallel plots are more interesting to me than those with one storyline. So, one word, two letters - W.E.
Very often, girls, having watched beautiful films, read heroic books, want to live a bright life. They choose someone else’s fate, try in every way to be like the main character, to find all the benefits they know about, while forgetting about all the nasty things about which books and films are silent.
The tale of Cinderella and the Prince, so beautifully reproduced in reality (the film is based on real events), creates the feeling that after all, the world is not so bad. The Prince of Wales and the American Wallis Simpson, for whom the King almost abdicated the title. To exchange everything for a feeling without which you do not need it. It seems to me that every woman in childhood, and then in her youth and a little more in adulthood, waited for such a prince. And God forbid if I did. And if you did not wait, then let boldly watch this wonderful film Madonna “We believe in love”. You can see that the director is a woman. Even scenes of love, which are not enough (I would like more and more frankly), are filmed with some inexplicable feminine tenderness. Men and women love each other differently. And then in this love we become almost the same.
To trade the world for one small world where the Prince will be King until he is overthrown. But can a people who love their King overthrow him from the throne? Never - and the answer is obvious. There is love in this world.
The heroine, whose life is becoming more and more like the life of Wallis, asks the main question of every woman: “And what had to sacrifice her for the sake of her beloved man?” After all, in the world of Kings, where the people still rule, no one asks a woman what she gave up for this love. Maybe because the world is used to the fact that a woman is always an altar and this is not so important not only today, but also then - in the 30s. Choosing between a similar fate and her own life, the heroine turns the helm wherever she wants. And in this she is very similar to Wallis, because she also curtailed and lived 36 years in marriage (so ask the word “happy”, but the film is not quite happy) with the Prince of Wales.
And only by the end of the film, and maybe after it ended, I remembered and paid attention to all these little things - pendants in the form of the letters W, gloves, shoes, hairstyles, jewelry, a set bracelet made of crosses. Such little things are not noticeable to men. They don't matter. Such little things are seen by women, stored in memory and fatally associated with them.
If the film is confusing at first, then after half an hour the film takes all your attention, you are afraid to miss the little thing, because they are important. Madonna, a woman, made a film for a woman. And it seems to me that a man, no matter how cinematic he was, will not see in him all that I saw.
The main character is femininely gentle, built beautifully, unlike Wallis, who, although she does not have a stunning figure, is cute and charming, although not beautiful. And, perhaps, it’s time to remember that puppet maidens have not attracted men for a long time, but it would be better to say that they have not been attracted to them for a long time. Perfect masks should hang on the walls in museums, because a woman - in a lively manner, with a strand of hair broken out, but at the same time an ideal soul (and, believe me, for every man there is such a soul and it exists) is a rare gift of fate. And it was for this gift that the prince gave the “half kingdom”.
The story behind the film is incredibly beautiful because it exists. And I probably can hardly, except for the movie "The King's Speech", I can now casually recall such a soulful film. In each shot there was something for me that allowed me to penetrate the atmosphere of “faith”. If I suddenly fall ill with handdra and will no longer believe in love, I will watch this film, because there is more “faith” and “love” in it than in any erotic saga (although I have not heard of such, but I think “50 Shades of Grey” is very suitable).
In general, if you love, then the King, if you look, then W.E. We believe in love.
Politics, business, and directing are areas where women, with few exceptions, are irrelevant. Not because they are stupid or not smart, no. Just a woman lives by feelings and emotions, and serious things need to be solved first of all by reason and cold calculation, which we are not capable of.
Perhaps that is why the film "W.E." did not find a hot response among men - the film is made by a woman, about a woman, probably for women.
Every time I see this movie, I enjoy watching it. But something prevents me from calling him good. Why? Apparently, a property of character that makes everything and everything look from several points of view.
The movie is beautiful. Black and white, splash of red, beige, ash gray, bright emerald, sparkling diamond... Elegant outfits, bright makeup, beautiful Abby (whom I took for Charlize Theron for a long time), dancing, cigarette smoke and the shine of crystal. All this pleases the eye, looks aesthetically pleasing and pleasant.
And the love story excites and interests, makes the heart tremble, wait for a happy ending and a long and happy life. Theoretically. In fact, with the “great love of the 20th century” in the film is a strong tension. I just can't feel it. No sparks, no tremors from Wallis touching Edward, no excitement in the look. Nothing. Empty.
The film tactfully omits some unpleasant moments from the biography of the Main Couple (for example, that Wallis was in close contact with several other representatives of the British (and not only) political elite, and Edward maintained relations with Nazi rule), using the lips of the heroine Abby Cornish justifying their actions with good intentions.
Edward wanted to get rid of the duties of the monarch, because the king of the British Empire could not be forbidden to marry the woman he loved. It's a historical fact. So the "suffering" and expulsion of Wally and Edward are far-fetched. In principle, they lived for pleasure.
Therefore, we will not talk about love in this pair, for we will discuss what is not visible - the lot of theoretical physicists.
Take a look at Wally Willtrop from 1998. Beautiful, unhappy in marriage, childless woman. Her life seemed empty and meaningless to me, and Wally herself is not trying very hard to diversify it. She is little talkative, contemplative, dreamy and useless. No comparison or analogy with the active Mrs. Simpson. It is very difficult to understand the need for this parallel in the film. These are two different stories, about two different women with two different lives and destinies. They are united only by a name that vaguely refers to a 2005 cartoon about a dog, a man and a werewolf rabbit. And if so, half the screen time was wasted.
However, it is absolutely sincere to say that Andrea Riseborough is really unsympathetic, but charming, elegant, and, besides, very similar Simpson. I have no idea what Wallis really was, but I liked this lady.
Abby Cornish and her Wally are beautiful, sexy and indifferent. And terribly unhappy.
As for the Duke of Windsor, he is charming, sweet and handsome. Well, I mean, James D'Arcy in his incarnation.
Eugene Oscar Isaac is a kind of prince in tobacco smoke and without a tie and is handsome, and behaves like a man, and generally a pleasant character (at least he was, until he flashed a thong). There must be a real man in a woman’s love story.
So it turns out that everything in the film is beautiful, outwardly thought out to the smallest detail, but confused and illogically meaningful, therefore, this dissonance is felt and it is not possible to fall in love with the main characters. How can they love each other if they don’t love each other?
For a long time I did not dare to write reviews for any film (I did not dare to find the right words...). But for some reason, after watching this film, I desperately wanted to write about it.
From Madonna you can expect everything - hype, pop music, even a children's book. But to tell you the truth, I didn’t expect such a movie from her. So gentle, breathtaking, piercing and tender. The film began vaguely for me, but as the plot progressed, everything became clear, and I began to marvel at the skill that Madonna managed to show on the one hand independent of each other, but on the other - so closely related two stories. That invisible line between them was drawn throughout the film, then clashing, then moving away from each other.
Madonna was able to show in the most beautiful way how everything is not simple in our world. That after all, life is not a fairy tale. And when you find your prince, it doesn't end with "They lived happily ever after." The path to happiness is thorny and never smooth. But still, if you are strong and if you go hand in hand with a strong person, you, although not easy, but still go this way.
I want to separate the music and costumes. The music is amazing throughout the film. She corrects you, caresses your ear and brings even more excitement to the plot. And costumes heroines - the embodiment of elegance, grace and femininity.
Bottom line: In some places sad and cruel, but still beautiful and tender picture, telling, truly, the most beautiful love story of the 20th century. Madonna did her best. Bravo!
I always want to talk about a movie over a cup of coffee, sitting in a cozy cafe. But now I only have a cup of tea and I see a computer monitor in front of me, where I try to write a review worthy of watching the movie. I am always very sensitive to the choice of movies and I do not like it to leave behind a sense of lost time. This film does not fall into this category.
“The most beautiful story of the XX century” but is it really true? Sometimes behind a beautiful wrapper there is something unimaginable. Of course, it is now easy for our generation to say that Edward VIII is a man with a capital letter, who renounced the throne for the sake of his beloved. But what happened to Wallis Simpson because of this? For the rest of your life, feel guilty, bear a heavy burden, be rejected by your own country. Only a very strong, strong-willed person can survive this. But let's remember that she's just a woman who wanted love.
I wish you to enjoy watching, great music and amazing costumes!
I admire Madonna as a creative person who wants to show all aspects of her talent. Not only directing, but also writing a full-length film. However, I was slightly surprised by the choice of the plot - the love story of the King of Great Britain. Shot in two birds with one stone: this is for you and a dramatic love story, this is for you and the story itself.
The whole film is designed in the technique of paintings like him. The plot inserts real footage that has survived to the present day. Here - plus the painstaking work of Madonna, who studied a huge amount of relevant literature. Good work of editors, during binding time periods. And a slight entanglement, when — personally, I — did not immediately understand which of the characters in question at the moment, because the two heroines — as prototypes of different periods of life — are closely related.
The relationship between the king and such a simple girl from his entourage is not perceived as a central narrative. There's probably a lot of additional digressions, and all the same parallels between the heroines that you don't know who you're more sympathetic to. And also – do not notice the power and passion with which the romance of the king and the “girls from the environment” breaks out. Actually, I didn't see the novel as such. To her words "I will become the most despicable woman in the world" and wanted to add: "And the most beloved."
In the film, there is a desire to convey that unfamiliar era in detail, and that atmosphere is really visible. Starting from the interiors of the toilet, ending with a natural desire to look good: “A woman is more than what she is wearing.”
Summing up, I would like to remind you that I respect Madonna’s attempt as an author to present a story that has been repeatedly shown to the audience. To touch the story and once to see the picture – it is quite possible. Unfortunately, nothing more.
Separately, I want to highlight the musical accompaniment in the film. Music reaches the farthest corners of the soul. It flows like a ray of sun, and pierces the heart through. Truly divine! Needless to say, this is an important and integral part of any film. Sometimes music is better than words to convey feelings - experiences, anxiety, joy, love. Therefore, the composer (Abel Korzeniowski) should be commended for the work done.
Undoubtedly, this is true love. It is better to show true feelings than actions. You can talk about love endlessly, but only one act decides everything. Each of them took a step towards each other. Everyone has sacrificed something important in their lives for the opportunity to live one life together. That is the price of happiness, of finding each other and being together until the very end. This is not a trivial love story, this is not like a fairy tale, this is real life, the fate of real people. Perhaps it would have been better if they had not met each other and were no less happy. She would have lived with her husband, who loved her madly, and knew neither the humiliation, nor the hatred of the whole empire, nor the exile. He would rule the country with someone who deserves to be the wife of such a significant man. It might be better for everyone else, but not for them.
One of the few movies where I feel like I’m in some other reality, I want to watch the movie again and again, erase the impression and emotions and feel them again, as much as the first time. At first I didn’t even know who the director was. It doesn't really matter. There is nothing special that Madonna would have a big impact on. A film is like any other good film, say a more professional director. I mean, Madonna did a great job. You can be far from a professional, but you can have talent, inner flair and the ability to express your vision of the true story. The film is beautiful, every detail is thought out and takes its place. Perfectionism has never hurt anyone. We all still need to learn from Madonna her desire to develop, try her hand at different activities. “A talented person is talented in everything.”

Madonna is a person who can only be admired. A girl with a mediocre appearance and average vocal skills became the queen of pop music and a style icon thanks to her iron will and desire to win. Several times Madonna tried to conquer the world of cinema as an actress, failed miserably, but did not give up. In the end, the invincible Madonna decided to become a director herself to make films.
In the film W.E., we are talking about the novel of the future Edward VIII and American Wallis Simpson, about how the prince gave up the crown in order to be with the woman he loved. Madonna, of course, wanted to focus on the difficult female fate, after all, why everyone talks about the sacrifice of the prince, but no one talks about what Wallace had to endure. The indefatigable Signora Ciccone set to work, as always passionately and with one hundred percent return.
At the beginning of the film, you get confused in events and heroes, the action takes place now in the last century, then in ours, then you realize that two lines intersect - Wallace Simpson and Wallace Wiltrop (a woman who is immersed in the life story of Wallace Simpson). Mrs. Wiltrop is unhappy in her marriage, although the husband is fully supportive, does not allow her to work and does not want children. A young woman (she is 28 years old), every day goes to the exhibition at the auction “Sotheby’s”, dedicated to Edward and Wallace, and examines the exhibits. Excerpts from the lives of both women, their fates are intertwined, as if the life of one affects the other. It seems that there is no end to the misadventures, but everything ends well. Madonna expected more rigidity from the film, and even some cynicism, but was pleasantly surprised that the film turned out to be very tender, touching, at the same time the leitmotif of the whole film is the motto of Madonna “Don’t give up!”
Madonna's film is about women, what they have to endure, including humiliation and beating. Madonna talks about what she went through, so the film, despite its stylistic expensive video, does not look empty beautiful picture. Madonna-director has invested her soul in the characters of the heroines, so it is impossible for them not to sympathize and not to worry for them.
Real aesthetic pleasure can be obtained from the care with which the interior items and costumes are reproduced. The perfectionist Madonna even brought her bed linen because it was the right color, and lent her vintage jewelry to achieve an accurate fit in the image. It was a pleasure to see women dressed like women – beautiful dresses, feminine silhouettes, styling, red lips. All this splendor is complemented by a beautiful song “Masterpiece”.
In one magazine, a review of the film ended with the words “Madonna will never get a film award because she is Madonna.” In my opinion, this woman is above the awards, her film, although not endowed with philosophical overtones, even if it is a simple story of women’s destinies, but this story is told with the soul, shown professionally, and the work on recreating historical details deserves the highest praise. Let critics scold, Madonna has long written her name in history, and her film is a great opportunity to get acquainted with another facet of the work of the tireless Signora.
This film takes the soul and remains in the heart forever.
To begin with, it’s nothing compared to The King’s Speech or any other adaptation of King Edward’s life. The picture just amazed me, nothing else for a long time was so amazing. Here the viewer sees so much natural pain, so much truth and real, genuine love.
The actors for the main roles were chosen just perfectly, as if a real Count and Countess of Winsorsky looked at me from the screen.
The love story of the King of England and a twice divorced American woman. I didn’t see any falsehood in any violent scene. Despair in the eyes of the main character was so sincere. I don’t think anyone will ever play Wallis Simpson better.
I can’t help but mention the music of Abel Korzeniowski, it’s just genius, it’s more than genius. Music envelops each scene, imbuing it with bitterness and sorrow, so genuine that it is difficult to resist tears, let alone trembling on the skin.
I recommend it to everyone, it is a masterpiece.
I recommend it to anyone who is not indifferent to this movie.
I will come from afar, I was invited to watch the film by a very respected director and just a wonderful person with an exceptional film taste. And for that I am very grateful.
I was interested in the fact that the director was Madonna. I am quite indifferent to Modonna herself, I respect her for her wonderful songs and creative work.
The film, I confess, has been watched many times. I have never written any reviews or comment. But in this case, I just can’t help but feel overwhelmed.
The movie is great. The directing job is wonderful. And music is the magic of notes (goosebumps, I listen to all the soundtracks of this film from time to time). The acting is impressive, I believe.
The film is very real, sensual, soulful. Two completely different stories of life and love. The film is about the most wonderful, most precious and kind feeling - love, about sacrifice in the name of love. Give up everything (fame, popularity, throne) for the sake of your beloved woman!!! Who in our time is capable of such an act? How can you not believe in love after that?
The history and life of royalty has always interested me. Especially the life of the monarchs of the now ruling Winsor family. Queen Elizabeth, her parents and relatives... This film tells the story of perhaps the most infamous King Edward VIII and the woman who changed his life and the life of the whole UK.
The main characters of the film are women - Wallis Simpson and Wally Winthrop. Both heroines live in different eras, at different times. they are surrounded by different circumstances. They are united by the name Wallis and a deeply unhappy personal life. Wallis Simpson, who suffered from the beatings of her husband and being married for the second time fascinates the heir to the throne Edward. Wally Winthrop - feels that her husband is cheating on her and refuses to have children, and Wallis and Edward, fascinated by the love story, finds love in the face of Russian security guard Eugene.
This is one of those movies where, after watching the trailer, you know exactly what awaits you. If the first part of the film is a well-known story, in the second part everything is clear and clear. However, it’s all beautifully decorated – the very idea of a museum and auction dedicated to Edward and Wallis – you can see a lot of fun. At the same time, landscapes, scenery, costumes are beautifully shown - an amazing era! A separate brilliance of the film is jewelry, I have never seen this before, that in films such an emphasis was placed on jewelry.
I liked the actors, especially Andrea Riseborough and James D'Arcy. They played very truthfully and naturally. Already in the second picture, I watch how masterfully James manages to transform into historical characters. Andrea played a very vague woman Wallis Simpson: the whole film is impossible to understand the course of her thoughts. True, Andrea was able to show her charm, charm - why all men were crazy about her. Abbie Cornish and Oscar Isaac - heroes of modern times. Abby is Wally, a suffering woman who finds solace in Edward and Wallis’ love story. And Oscar very decently played a Russian – phrases he spoke without an accent.
Personally, I don't understand why the film was so mercilessly scolded - yes, it's not perfect, but it has its own beauty and charm. I think fans of the drama might like it. The assessment is fair and deserved
This film came to my attention solely because of the musical accompaniment, the talented music of Abel Korzhenevski has long delighted my ear and, as it turned out, is the soundtrack of this film.
This trend is not new to me, for example, I first imbued with the music of Dario Marianelli, and only after watching the film “Atonement”, but if in this case, the film was worthy of its soundtrack, then in this film work everything is much less optimistic.
“We believe in love” is great, we believe in it too, but I would like to see it with one eye. More than a promising beginning, gradually slides into a fragmentary narrative.
If the story of our contemporary, Wallis, is less clear - yes, she is married to a narcissistic, selfish pig and to somehow drown out the pain of disappointment, finds solace in the life of Wallis Simpson.
The heroine Abby Cornish hopes to meet, to feel such love. As they say, hope dies last. She met a certain Eugene, the feeling she feels for him, rather tired gratitude, which does not even remotely resemble falling in love. This storyline can be understood in principle, since the real feeling, the phenomenon is rare. However, the extraordinary love between Wallis Simpson and Edward VIII was not demonstrated.
Based on this film, we can conclude that David, aka Edward, is very lazy and infantile, he easily changes one brunette mistress to another brunette mistress. It seems that if Simpson were any other girl, the outcome would be the same.
The abdication of the throne with a declared reason - the "beloved woman" in the film is more like a banal reluctance to engage in state affairs and be the face of the monarchy. Well, how the viewer should guess about feelings that are not shown even schematically.
It seems that the director is just sure that everyone from morning to evening, only that they study documentary sources about the Duchess and Duke of Windsor. And if so, why write a high-quality script, when you can focus on the visual part.
In this film work there is absolutely no plot-shaped concept, that is, dramaturgy. There is no unity of action, cause and effect. It is difficult to trace the psychological motivation in the actions and characters of the actors.
A separate claim to the fact that allegedly King Edward danced with the ladies, not taking cigarettes out of his mouth – fi. Firstly, I question this fact, and secondly, even at the risk of being called a snob, but if this is true, I am absolutely not interested in the story of this man, even if he is king three times.

I think no one expects anything special from the film, when in the column “director” the singer is indicated, in fact, without experience in filming, and in general very extravagant and peculiar personality. So I did not have much hope for this creation, I expected something simple, low-quality, ill-thought-out and memorable. But I got something more.
In the film, one of the most beautiful love stories of the twentieth century is not as sweet and perfect as we all used to think. Not everything is so simple: even having committed such a noble act, giving up the throne in the name of love, you can not be completely sure that you will never regret your fateful decision. No, the definition of "They lived happily ever after" isn't really about this couple. Everything that happened after their final reunion is not so beautiful. Wallis feels like she is in a cage, unable to breathe deeply and calmly, and feels that universal contempt and misunderstanding are too high a price to pay for happiness. But she still loves and understands that she will have to spend her whole life with this person. That's not an easy woman's share. Edward did not sacrifice everything for their love.
Dilutes this difficult love story the story of a simple woman, namesake Wallis Simpson. She feels that their lives are somehow connected, she's letting her whole life through herself. Unhappy in family life, she finally realizes she deserves more, thanks to Mrs. Simpson.
I would like to celebrate incredible music. It is so precisely chosen, emphasizing the feelings of the characters, it is harmonious and emotional, you just want to close your eyes and listen. Thank you very much to the composer. Visually, the picture is filmed very beautifully, I love such “bright” atmospheric films.
The film is very female. Therefore, I admit that not all men will appreciate it. To some extent, I regarded this film as an ode to women who are endowed with such qualities as wisdom, patience, sacrifice and understanding.
It is noticeable that the film was worked by an intelligent woman with a rich life experience. Honestly, I thought Madonna would bet on sex, drive, struggle and power, but no. It turned out to be a very touching, trembling and a little tart film. In general, Madonna surprised me pleasantly.

The film was shot by Americans (or rather American), although the country of Great Britain was written. I keep saying that Americans can’t make movies about English people. Well, they do not understand their character and cannot fully convey the identity of this country and people. Dialogue leaves much to be desired. If I hadn’t watched the English classic version of the film, I wouldn’t have understood what Wallis feels about the king. Edward is much better, but I have never seen an Englishman in any character. It's very indistinct. Apparently, Madonna has some distant ideas about this story or she is just not a very good director. There are pluses, I really liked the music in the film and beautiful landscapes, beautiful costumes, overall entourage - everything looks beautiful. I don’t like it when English history is distorted. Therefore, my assessment will be negative.
I advise you to watch the English version of the film - Wallis and Edward.

The second directorial work of pop diva Madonna & #39;We. We believe in love & #39; Honestly, when I sat down to watch the film, I wasn’t attuned to anything interesting after her failed debut 'Dirt and Wisdom'. I’ve been very lucky lately for some great movies! It’s about the ability to sacrifice yourself for others. Madonna managed to transport us to the reign and abdication of King Edward VIII and show the most beautiful love story of the XX century. For those who have seen the picture ' The King speaks ' it will be doubly interesting! In that picture, the stuttering Duke suddenly becomes king, due to the abdication of his older brother. The plot does not go into details, because the story is not about him, but by what works, what sacrifices this decision was made - this story in the film Madonna. In addition to historical facts, there is another storyline in the picture, in parallel everything happens in a rather close time for us, the lines intersect, fates intersect. Excellent camera work, acting, slow action and two-hour timekeeping do not interfere at all, but on the contrary, give us a deeper sense of the problem. Personally, I went deeper and deeper into this story and didn’t want it to end. It is always a pleasure to watch a truly high-quality movie that exceeds all expectations. Thank you, Madonna!
To touch someone else's life. To feel part of it. Seeing history from the other side
When I heard that I was going to watch Madonnas, I didn’t know what to expect. That’s probably what attracted me to this movie. Madonna is an ambiguous person. She can mix vulgar with clean and beautiful. Sometimes she is bold, sometimes she is feminine. Her image is firmly entrenched in society as the most courageous and sexy. But the movie? There's a place to walk. It's not a stage where you just need costumes and shows. Cinema is an art that requires huge resources. Not only that. A good movie requires a thousand aspects, from script to makeup. And Madonna knew what she was doing. She took a big risk. Of course, she did not deny herself the pleasure of making a visually superior drama. This reminds me that she knows what style and beauty are. Her female look helped operator Hagen Bogdanski to realize the idea. And in the end, it is impossible to take your eyes off each frame. It's gorgeous. It's true. Recreates that era precisely and abundantly excellent work of costumer-stylist Jenny Shirkor. As a girl, it was a pleasure to look at the costumes and hairstyles of Wallis Simpson. They were beautiful and feminine.
What Madonna showed in her picture is a purely female look. The fact that the main character rushed headlong into a beautiful fairy tale about love is no wonder. That's not how things went in her life. The abuse of her husband, the thought and torment of the woman that went into her head, as well as what Wallis Simpson lost for the sake of the king and love for him – all this could be fully conveyed only by a woman. Just like Madonna. I don’t think she’s a very talented singer (because I can’t listen to her songs), but not considering her a strong personality is biased. She knows how to get what she wants. She knows how to put herself as she should. You can admire her for that. She also chose a very interesting topic for her debut. I have to admit I made a good movie.
The actors who played in this film were organic. Especially 2 main characters - Abby Cornish and Andrea Riseboru. Very different images, but embodied perfectly. Abbie Cornish, familiar to me from the films "Candy", "16 years". Love. Reboot, Bright Star, Forbidden Reception can only be praised for such beautiful serious roles (except for the latter). Andrea Riseboru, who first appeared in front of me on the screen, struck me with her game. Her character admired me.
I can’t help but mention the divine music that played in the film. Thank you, Abel Kozenowski! I want to hear it again and again.
Overall, I liked the film. Even made me cry, I don't know why. But I didn't like one thing. I think Madonna overdid the violent scenes. They were in contrast to modern times. It looked ugly and ugly compared to the whole picture. So I'm putting
When I saw the movie, I sat down with some prejudice. Ratings are relatively low, audience reviews are very diverse and very contradictory. I wanted to see Madonna’s work. In the end, it was interesting to know if Madonna could be said to be a talented person in everything, or if she would be the exception. Fortunately, Madonna is no exception to this rule.
From the beginning, the film did not catch on. The Constant Change of Time: The Twentieth Century, Our Days, Again the Twentieth Until you “get involved”, it is quite difficult to perceive the development of the plot. But you get sucked in very quickly, and once you get sucked in, that’s the end of the movie. The change of times, so annoying at first, soon rivets to the plot. And after viewing it is a pleasant impression.
The love story of the main characters is really a great story. A story worthy of admiration and respect. Edward abdicated the throne for the sake of his beloved woman, and practically everything. Wallis became a woman despised by many, she lost her privacy, her freedom, her reputation. But they were happy together no matter what. Amazing. And the actors who played these roles – Andrea Riseborough and James D’Arcy – did a great job.
But the story of Wally and Eugenie was ordinary. Almost every second or third melodrama is about such stories. But even this familiar story can not leave you indifferent. Maybe just Abby Cornish and Oscar Isaac did their best. And thanks to their work, the heroes turned out to be so alive, absolutely real.
Well, it is impossible not to note the work of Abel Korzhenevski . The music in the film hooked me even more than the love story of Edward and Wallis. The music is beautiful. It reflects all the feelings of the characters, it conveys them to the viewer. It's filled with the spirit of the times that the film talks about. Bravo to the composer!
In general, the film is far from perfect, but there is definitely something in it. Not for everyone, of course. But those who still look at it, will not leave indifferent.

To begin with, I admire Madonna as a person. A successful woman, no matter how criticized. For his creative activity shocked and admired, amazed and surprised.
From writing children's books, Madonna moved to directing. My subjective opinion is very good. Her debut has been criticized, judged and scolded, but I disagree. The film is made with taste, there is an idea, an interesting plot, a good performance of actors. Madonna approached her film very scrupulously scenery, costumes, actors and of course music.
I will not retell the plot, there is an annotation for the film for this, but I will say that I made the greatest impression. Of course the music comes first. It is fascinating, fully displays the moment, emotions, feelings. The musical accompaniment in this film ceases to be the background, and becomes a continuation of the plot (so by the way, I even uploaded all the music from the film to my playlist).
And of course the movie itself. The plot isn't beaten. Madonna did not choose the genre of comedy-melodrama, which is a big plus. An interesting interweaving of eras and destinies. Great acting. The heroes of the film and their fates are interesting to follow. You don't look at the clock waiting for the end of the movie. It won’t have an unexpected turn of events, but this movie is worth watching.
The question is, when and with whom? You can watch this movie alone, with a friend or with a friend. I watched alone, in the evening after a hard day with a glass of wine and had a great deal of fun. It seems to me that this movie is designed for a female audience, but the choice is yours with whom to watch and whether to watch at all. At least have a nice look.
Very beautiful film. The first feeling I had after watching the movie was admiration for its beauty. Beauty not only scenery, costumes, makeup, but the beauty of feelings, experiences, views.
When I write reviews of movies, I know exactly the plan for writing them, and then I don’t even know where to start. The film is luxurious, filled with a range of feelings. How the atmosphere of that time was conveyed. Personally, I made an incredibly strong impression on his extraordinary plot.
The actors performed their roles well. I would like to mention Andrea Riseborough. Truthfully, sincerely, with soul. These are the only words that can be found in the game.
I did not know much about the love of King Edward VIII of England and the American Wallis Simpson, but I still felt respect for her. He abdicated the throne for her, from the people, in his own name, from his family. She just didn't survive for him: humiliation, ridicule, bullying. But still they stayed together, they survived everything, challenged the world and did not lose.
What I like about this film is that it is told from Wallis’ point of view. Everyone talks about what Edward gave up, but what Wallis gave up? It's a story of women. Strong women, beautiful and proud.
Beautiful soundtracks. For this film could be awarded an Oscar. Sensual, touching, some fragile music that incredibly accurately and subtly conveys the atmosphere of this story. All its tragedy, desperation.
While watching the film, I admired the costumes and places where the film was shot. Precisely recreated rooms, furniture, gardens.
Everything Madonna does is very high. And this movie is no exception. Thank you for such a beautiful, incredibly touching, fragile film.
I'm not going to talk about the great camera work, the music, the idea of the film. This has been noted by many reviewers before me. To enjoy the video and sound, you need to watch a movie.
The film traces two storylines: the love story of English King Edward and American Wallis Simpson, and our contemporary Wally and her tangled relationship with her husband. Watch it for everyone who wants it.
I saw the idea in the film in debunking the prince myth for every girl. Wallis, who was so eager to get to know the real prince, would love him. And Wally, who was named after Wallis Simpson, to find her prince. In the course of the film, our contemporary talks about it. In both cases, having a prince becomes a fatal mistake. Every woman loses herself. But the heroine of our days manages to get out of the vicious circle. And Wallis Simpson, who is still accused of the fact that the king abdicated because of love for her, for the rest of her life felt in a hostile ring.

In early 2011, Tom Hooper's Oscar-winning "The King's Speech" made a splash. He showed the royal family in a different light: as ordinary people with their own problems and failures. King George VIII overcame his fear with the support of his wife and speech therapist, a former failed actor. Do you remember why George came to the throne? After all, he initially did not want to be king, but his brother had an affair with a married American woman, and this event negatively affected Edward’s reputation. Hooper showed us one part of the story about George, the rest was presented by Madonna. Hooper focused on the ideas of a strong personality and honor, Madonna, as a true woman, made a film about love.
The very story behind W.E is controversial. The future king falls in love with a woman who has two marriages behind her back. For a stiff English society, this is nonsense. But Edward and Wallis did not give up, having gone through criticism and gossip, they lived together for 35 years.
Pluses of the film: an interesting idea with the past-future. Through the story of Wallis Simpson, Wally Winthrope goes her own way: she revises her life, looking at things from the era of Edward and Simpson and reading their letters.
The pluses include music (after all, Madonna, first of all a musician, and then a director), the important role of the interior and things, and, of course, the play of two actresses: Abby Cornish and Andrea Riseborough. Both showed women who want simple happiness, for which they are willing to endure humiliation, emotional crisis and disappointment.
Minuses: Honestly, I didn't really like George VIII. Here Madonna and Hooper have a common trouble, one-sidedness. Both showed that one brother is good, the other is not. One does the right thing and the other looks like an angel. On the other hand, how do you show the character if not in comparison to the actions of his brother? Second minus-protracted start. From the middle, the film looks easy, and the beginning stretched too long, languid and boring.
Can I congratulate Madonna on a successful film? Partly. “We Believe in Love” turned out to be a strong film for one time, not pretending to be something global, but the story itself was of a chamber-English character. I want to say thank you to the director for his version. For an elegantly decorated, finished quality and beautiful song in the classic style of Madonna. She has no equal in that.
Together we are strong and we can cope with this cruel world. Please hold me tight, David, hold on.
I’ve heard about this film for a long time, I won’t say that I was waiting for it, but I still wanted to see it. I love Madonna, I respect her very much as a singer, a talented woman, but the news that Madonna took the chair of directing not a video, but quite a serious big film, raised doubts in me. I downloaded this movie for two reasons:
1. curiosity
2. outfits, furnishings - this time attracts me ...
From the film I expected a beautiful sweet love story, and got something different.
For me personally, this is a film about two women, Wallis and Wally.
Wallis is a married American, a strong woman who falls in love with the king himself. She lives! It lives, it doesn't exist. Breathing fully and does not limit itself. Subsequently, she will regret this, will blame herself for Edward’s failures, blame Edward for his imprisonment.
Wally is different. A young married woman who gave up her life for her husband, begging her husband only for a child. She exists, she does not live, and only the story of Wallis gradually convinces her to look back at the world.
I don’t want to describe my impressions of the men in this film, because I repeat, for me, this is a story about women and men played their roles, but played roles in women’s lives.
The film is insanely beautiful, insanely beautiful music, outfits, furnishings! It all attracts, impresses, amazes and even inspires me, for example, even to write a review, and this is for me for the first time.
I am not a very emotional and weeping lady, but at some point, when Eugene was playing a very beautiful Wally tune in his apartment, I noticed a tear running down my cheek. Conclusion: the film touched me for a living, and it is worth a lot.
I would like to advise this film, if only because, no matter how pompous, pathetic it sounded, this film gave me hope that there is in the world the notorious love . And one day every person in his life will say: "I believe in love!"
