Drawn indisputably beautiful, but there are many beautiful anime, and not a small part of them has stunning worlds and stories. Sometimes these worlds are almost indistinguishable from reality, and sometimes border on insanity, but these are worlds that live according to their internal laws, which are interesting to observe and delve into their history.
In this case, it makes no sense to find fault with the details because there is neither a holistic world nor history. From the point of view of any logic (formal, even internal) there is complete nonsense. Banal nothing beats at all, the narrative is just a set of random scenes in completely different settings. Different parts are roughly glued together with inserts “because they dulled”, “because they fell apart”, “just because” etc.
Very similar to the story of a teenager who read / watched a number of works of art and made his story based on the most memorable fragments.
Well, not all fairy tales have logic, is there some deep romantic story? Again, no, it's some incoherent clichéd nonsense. This one loves him, this one, go from there to there, because “because of something”, with the goal of “because” with romantic inserts to music.
Well, there's no point in romance, but maybe that's not it. The age limit is 12+, maybe it's for the kids, and the uncle just got it? Again, no. In the plot a lot of moments that are absolutely not designed for a 12-year psyche and level of knowledge, and the visual in some places is more adult. For children there are a lot of simpler and lamp paintings.
If there is nothing, why is the review positive? Given all the above, this is a strong average, without obvious advantages, but there are no outright failures. For the unpampered viewer as an acquaintance with the genre, yes, or if the mood ventilate the brain, it is quite possible to recommend.
As I wrote at the beginning - with the visual here everything is OK, 9 out of 10. The plot is meaningless, but there is also some frank nonsense, so just no way - 5 out of 10, total arithmetic:
It's not some job for money. It's an instructive story.
I'm not some great critic. I'm not an art critic. I'm not a writer, I'm not a writer, I'm not even an artist. I like to judge only by the quality of the story and how it was made.
The basic moral of this story is to be able to let go of what we can’t get back, or what we can lose far more than we can gain. But that’s not the only thing, right?
I particularly liked one conversation where this teacher said, "Let go of what you've lost." But he is going after his dead wife. People often contradict their own words, which seem to believe - but which, as it were, are not particularly followed.
Overall, that's all I wanted to say. Have a good time of day when you get here.
I’m not going to call this movie a bad one, because I know it can touch someone. But, as I understood, it is more likely to touch teenagers who immediately ' will stand in the place of the girl' My problem:
1) I didn't understand Asuna, the loneliness that pushed her into this world. When they crossed the portal, I wondered why she was going there. I immediately thought of a friend who died, but they met not so long ago to go to another world, when you have your mother at home and you disappear, it is rashly stupid and strange. I did not understand her motivation at all, so it was difficult to empathize with her goals. Maybe because of my father? But she probably doesn’t remember him to miss him so much.
In the end, she asks herself, why is she here? He says he's lonely. But, again, I repeat, so it is more for teenagers, who are sometimes very lonely, to empathize with such a poorly developed problem of loneliness in this anime.
2) The younger brother, who is experiencing the loss of an older brother, is not impressed with motivation, since initially he just follows the order.
But it does not cause much interest.
(3) My older brother and Asuna’s love line is quick, so I don’t believe in their tears. Perhaps I should have saturated myself more with a sense of loneliness to see the emotionality of this relationship.
The script seems weak to me. I really wanted to get emotional and not be bad. The drawing is gorgeous, and there are no complaints about the teacher’s line at all.
Jokes with jokes. Shinkai declared himself in Your Name. It thundered.
This film was undeservedly forgotten and erased from human memory. Sorry. Personally, I think it's his best movie to date.
Clear heroes with the right motivation. There are no unnecessary questions and claims to their motivation - there are no unnecessary details, but there is an understanding of the "why" they do it. There is no superfluous hero, everyone is justified.
The story and, more importantly, the script – for Shinkai this is a rarity, especially early! – are very decent, do not sag, there is no feeling of “what is it, where am I, why is it, what am I doing here?” There are no strange or superfluous events. It's one and the same. The story holds you with one claw and does not let go until the very end.
And then... I don't know what to say. The film directly penetrates into the spiritual sphere, in the issues of elections and motivation. What would you say if you met God? Are you willing to sacrifice others for your desires? What is the understanding of reality? What is reality? These are the questions to be answered by the viewer.
Very strong and high-quality work. Interesting. I recommend especially to fans of a complex, serious product.

And you can always create a miracle, any miracle, draw feelings on a clean canvas, so that at least their outline was seen by other people, or animals from children's fairy tales, beautifully prancing on the nearest illuminated meadow. And I don't want to break out here, I want it to go smoothly. Agartha! Nervous breakdowns are always hard in the modern world, and here's my cure. There is no such thing in another dimension. There is no nervous breakdown, neurosis and psychosis, schizophrenia, moral disability, depression, burnout, hysteria, anxiety and paranoia. There is no need for white coats, and you can choose your clothes to taste - anything you want. Agartha! Every desperate person wants at least once in his life to go beyond the reasonable, beyond the boundaries of the ordinary - crush him harder by the obligation of work, the hustle and bustle of everyday life, the glass of blindness. And when loved ones die, it can be very difficult for someone to put up with it, especially sensitive characters in our childhood fantasies. They're kids, but they're going through a tiny bit of time more than you and I have in a lifetime. Agartha! The dead do not intersect with the living, the student has no point of contact with the masses of accomplished people who have moved away from freedom of choice for thousands of miles. But don’t cut, leave the saw, cool, think, there’s definitely nothing to worry about – you can always immerse yourself. Agartha!
And let it be in an anime, a teenage girl will meet a boy and a chick and many others with her drama, tragedy and comedy - yes, the full palette of feelings can open to you in two hours, it's magic. Stay! And the girl moves, breaking into a sprint, according to the idea of a life plot in a beautiful anime - a human shimmers with the unknowable, she hears music. Isn't that wonderful? And even a person who has long lost himself can be reborn here, go through many trials, go down to the gates of life and death. This is not a steep ravine, not a pit, not a machine for wish fulfillment, desires can be very dangerous - you will not understand anything, so at least admire the view. Stay! It is an unceasing, uninterrupted rupture of ideas and opinions – I have seen and heard many things, but even so I could not remain indifferent. It's not enough, it's not enough for many, but I was able to grab a piece of happiness. Stay! Not a drop of abomination, though faceless creatures want to devour an innocent soul, but not a shadow of sugary artificial pretense, no pathos. Just catch the voices, the forgotten ones and those that still sound loud and clear, do not close your ears, so as not to miss all the most important things in your life. Stay!
Yes, it can be cruel, it can be hard and bitter. Others from misunderstanding do not want to let even the most harmless strangers into their territory, and at best leave those outside the threshold, and at worst they are ready to oppress, destroy themselves, tear an unknown object to pieces. Joy! All you have to do is open your eyes and connect your ears and everything falls into place. He can sit in a dirty and dark cage, it can be scary. And rot under torture, moral and physical torture, cut the flesh, pierce, tear, burn the skin, do everything that a sick mind can touch. Joy! You can howl in pain and suffering and no one will hear. But all this will not matter - the end is happy, in the end you are happy, in any case you find peace and quiet. Everything will end, the pain will go away, the spiral labyrinth – the ladder of vices – will end. And the ice is thinner, the pain is gone. Thank you for everything that happened. We will never forget that when we take off the earth, all that flashes in our heads are the good memories of the days when you were a child. Joy! On a rocket into space - there is cool, without unnecessary trembling, straight and confident, smooth gait through the stars, such an odyssey to the root cause. And jump on the moon, admire the sun, put your guns away, break your weapons, make peace, we are all here only for you. Joy!!!
As you can see, even a single girl from a small village can find real friends, a true family, the main thing is to have a pure soul and thoughts. Not everyone would be able to go to the other side to find someone dear to you, even if you did not see you often, even if, at first glance, you do not have anything to do with it, but still “Forgotten Voice Catchers” overcome this line. Forever! Tell me about the choice, let my radio catch someone's voice, someone's melody. Yes, probably, it is not customary to share your experiences - it is ridiculous, it is ridiculous, others do not care about it - this is familiar, close everything in yourself and calmly talk about abstract topics or what lies on the surface. Forever! You can only share your thoughts with the stars, make friends, create a family, invent seven faithful who will protect you all your life. But this girl finds her happiness, albeit with great difficulty, but she can even believe in the very person who lost himself to save him. My friend Makoto Shinkai always displays such things very accurately and with characteristic grace. Forever! It is hard to part with someone close, but there are different options for resolution, and it depends on you. With desire and effort, a lot can be restored. Thanks for all this. Forever!
And in the end, you need sleep. Nothing can be done without the elements of dreams. But I need a full sleep, I want to see and remember everything, every detail, which is very important in this case. I see beauty, and it’s not just a shell, not just a decoration of emptiness, in every living and present creation there is something fundamental. Peace! The whole world is placed in one dream, morning, night, day and evening – always try to grasp the fine threads from the smoke screen of sleep. You can cry and laugh, indulge in the most extreme and insane feelings, and it will not be shameful - I would shake your hand, if only for the fact that you are not afraid. Peace! I love animes, especially these are real masterpieces. You see something deep in them, or your eyes are not ways to see anything but the most banal silhouettes and beauty that everyone sees, even the most evil and immoral people (probably). Whatever you say, it doesn't matter to me. I feel that this is the main thing, and you feel, and then words, stereotypes, foundations, bone opinions will not matter. Peace! Your favorite toys are always with you, in your head and in your chest. Don’t play constructive, chaotic rule – great, I’m very happy. Peace. Life and death...
In the Makoto Shinkai all-picture marathon, I went all the way to: "Fishers of Forgotten Voices." Honestly, I thought I was going to see a good anime, but I jumped to that conclusion.
To begin with, unlike: “5 centimeters per second” (Sinkai’s previous work), this film did not make me bored, I did not have to look at the experiences of the heroine for a long time, which would drag on half the film, they are, but they look much more appropriate in this film, i.e. not too long. All events happened quite quickly, though not quite logical, but in my opinion logic in such works does not play the most important role.
Drawing and animation is just a masterpiece, I have never seen more beautiful landscapes than in the paintings of Makoto Shinkai, you can say: “Drawing is not the most important thing”, to which I will answer that you are deeply mistaken. All these landscapes just immerse you in this fairy-tale world, in which you want to stay.
The music is also good, supports a fabulous atmosphere and does not strain, this is the most important thing.
In general, the film turned out very good, Makoto Shinkai really tried, and in general, progress in his work is visible. This time he was able to awaken in me the feelings that I last felt as a very young child - the desire to explore, to discover, in the end I wanted to leave the house to see something new, and I thank him for that.

"Fishers of Forgotten Voices" - another creation of the famous Japanese animated director - Makoto Shinkai.
This work is strikingly different from all the previous ones both in style and narrative. Usually Shinkai shoots anime about the deepest connection between two living people, and in this project the main theme is Death. All anime is saturated with this afterlife energy and sorrow, although the color scheme is light and there is no usual funeral theme. But some moments are truly cryptic.
Another very eerie moment for me was the fact that this anime was published on May 7, 2011 - on this day my father died, and as if this creation reflected my personal deep sadness and grief for a dear person.
The main character of the film is a girl named Asuna, who buried her father in early childhood and this event, somewhere subconsciously, deep in her soul, left its imprint. After that, Asuna’s mother had to work hard to feed the two of them, and for the most part the girl was left to herself, so the feeling of loneliness only increased. Asuna’s emotions are very clearly spelled out, and I caught everything in her that I felt after losing my dad, although some of her actions did not lend themselves to any logic at all. I may have understood her condition, but the character of Asuna remained undisclosed to me.
The second main character is Ryuji Morisaki, the teacher of Asuna, who is far from what he seems at first glance. Morisaki is also experiencing his loss - his wife died of illness and the man even ten years later could not let her go and move on. All these ten years he was obsessed with the idea of returning her and unlived feelings changed him, crippled him.
Another significant heroine is a kitten Mimi, which is also not as simple as it seems at first glance. This cute little belly evoked more emotions in me than all the human beings in this anime combined.
It is also worth noting two more heroes - brothers Shuna and Shuna, who also have their own stories, their unlived feelings and losses.
Each of the main characters is lonely, each has his own loss and each seeks to escape from it, not live. Unfortunately, it doesn’t get any easier.
In the anime there are many references to Japanese mythology and uninitiated viewers will be very difficult to see the whole picture and understand its depth.
Another thing that caught my eye, this anime is very much reminiscent of the creations of another equally famous maestro of Japanese animation - Hayao Miyazaki . And the drawing, style, and plot were like a tribute to the legendary director, although the handwriting of the Shinkai himself is also felt. Most of all, "Fishers of Forgotten Voices" reminded me of a kind of symbiosis "Ghost Away" and "Princess Mononoke", corrected with the style Sinkaya. It was very interesting and beautiful.
The visual side is just great. If you take the picture, then this is probably the most impressive of all the creations of Makoto Shinkai. The whole world is so vividly, clearly and in detail drawn in this anime - that the real world is that of Agartha. A wide palette of colors is used here, which perfectly shows the contrast between the world of the living and the afterlife. Basically, cold tones are used, which usually go in the background, sometimes diluted with warm shades - all together, describes just an unreal visual series, which I mercilessly stuck to.
The main drawback in "Fishers of Forgotten Voices", oddly enough, is the soundtrack. And this time the music to it was written by the usual fans of Sinkai, Tammon, but the compositions were so loud and absurd that spoiled the atmosphere of the anime. Of the entire track list, probably only a couple of soundtracks turned out to be successful, the rest simply irritated and cut the ear. Unsurprisingly, this was the last collaboration between Tammon and Shinkai, who had previously collaborated for many years.
In the end, a wonderful, beautiful anime with a deep idea. Let the main characters are not fully understood, and some of their actions are far from logic, but this does not spoil the overall impression. Nothing is perfect, including this anime, but after watching it still left a very strong impression. I liked it.
This is the third film by Makoto Shinkai, with which I continue to get acquainted with a whole new genre of Japanese anime for most of us. While many people are bothering themselves in principle, prejudice, deliberate criticism, you can at least invest this time in viewing worthy representatives, one of which was the picture “Fishers of Forgotten Voices”. And it is not as important as calling what you see - an Asian fairy tale, an cartoon, a manga - while watching, you really distance yourself from the usual film experience and get a new one.
The plot lacks stars from the sky. It’s a great adventure that draws inspiration from Jules Verne, The Wizard of Oz and Gulliver’s adventures. Schoolgirl Asuna lives among the picturesque landscapes, equipping secret places with home comfort. After a mortal danger and the meeting of a new friend and patron, she becomes a participant in the journey to a completely different world. A two-hour road adventure where the story is not the story itself, but the surroundings. And if the new world has a lot in common with the picturesque Japanese landscapes at the beginning of the film, then what most viewers see outside the window every day is in sharp contrast. A riot of colors and shades, beautiful panoramas, unusual inhabitants.
Makoto Shinkai remains true to his attention to detail and visual skill with his story. The visual component here is the strongest side of the story. As for the main characters and their destinies, empathy arises, but the characters quickly wear out of their heads after watching, and the picturesque landscapes remain there. It is possible that almost two-hour timekeeping could have been reduced - it feels like at least a quarter. The story is designed for a wide age audience and tries itself even in rhetorical topics.

You still need to be able to do this - so much to borrow from Miyazaki and get such a non-miyazak result at the output.
The girl, similar to Kiki from the “Witch Delivery Service”, listens to the music of a foreign world with the help of a crystal similar to a flying stone from “Laputa”, meets a boy similar to Howl from “Stray Castle”, then his brother, similar to Asitaka from “Princess Mononoke”, then in the company of a cat squirrel, similar to an animal from “Nausicai” and a sensei, similar to the main antihero of the same “Laputa”, gets into a mysterious Agartha... Miyazaki? Well, well.
The boy Haul dies, Agartha, along with the signature Sinkayev sky, is deep underground, the local civilization is nearing sunset, dead cats are eaten by custom by quetzalcoatli, similar to me can not even say what, and the main characters are brought under the ground for a reason - they want to return their dead loved ones. Mythological story. Orpheus and Eurydice. Although the heroes, by virtue of nationality, remember Izanagi and Izanami. The story of traveling to the world of the dead cannot be fun. Moreover, it cannot be a fairy tale. Only myth. Or a parable. Shinkaya got something in between. Well, that's even true: Shinkai is not a storyteller. The storyteller is Miyazaki.
This is the only Makoto Shinkai anime I’ve ever seen, so I can’t compare it to the director’s other work. I will try to write as objectively as possible about my impressions.
What shocked you? Beautiful and at the same time some frightening fascinating landscapes, fantastic colors not only of the underground (otherworldly) world, but also our real. And when the final song “Goodbye, Hi and Goodbye” sounded, tears came to my eyes, so it was touching. I watched the film in Japanese with Russian subtitles, and completely dubbed into Russian, and I can say that the Russian dubbing is excellent, the voices were selected very well! The anime is almost two hours, but you do not notice the time, so exciting is the story told in the film.
What did you like? Wonderfully invented and painted fantastic creatures and animals. Very good background music, it does not interfere, but helps the perception of the film.
And finally, I didn't like it. Horrible, I repeat, just terrible, people are drawn, and everything, they are schematic and exaggerated-templates. Looking at people was unpleasant. Well, people are poorly painted and Miyazaki.
About the similarity of "Forgotten Voice Catchers" to Miyazaki's films. I don’t think Makoto Shinkai was aiming or trying to “compet” with Miyazaki. The overall atmosphere and content of Shinkai’s film is completely different from Miyazaki’s. Take a look and you will understand it.
Overall, the film is a masterpiece. I did not regret the time spent watching. I just warn you that the movie “Fishers of Forgotten Voices” is not for young children, they simply will not understand it.

I was already familiar with the work of Makoto Shinkai, so when I started watching this cartoon, I was looking forward to something really interesting. The film met all my expectations. I watched this movie with great pleasure.
This anime is shot beautifully and interesting. It turned out a real dramatic and adventure film that fascinates the viewer and amazes with its unusual story.
We see the main character - a girl named Asuna. She lost her father early and lives with her mother. Her mother works night shifts, so Asuna is almost always alone. After school, she often sits on a large hill and listens to mysterious and alluring music emanating from the crystal, inherited in memory of her late father. One day, a girl is attacked by a strange creature and rescued by a boy from another world. Soon she learns of his death and goes to his world.
I admit, I'm impressed with this anime. I really liked it and was fascinated by its original story. After watching, I thought about this movie for a while. It is really interesting, clean and original. The works of director and screenwriter Makoto Shinkai look as much with great pleasure as Hayao Miyazaki.
The plot of this cartoon with a double bottom, everything is extremely not banal and well thought out. The main character is a sweet, brave, little girl with whom we go on this mysterious journey. The idea of this fantastic story is simply fascinating. Events in another world are gaining momentum, and the ending of the film is very deep and dramatic.
"Fishers of Forgotten Voices" is a Japanese, adventure, dramatic anime of 2011. The cartoon is just beautiful, and it bewitches and amazes with its story. I want to thank the creator Makoto Shinkai for this wonderful and touching gift.
A wonderful cartoon!
There is no need to weep for those who have passed away, there is no need to mourn for those who have gone; from the sky the rain will fall at night. Well, we still have a life. [/B][/I]
With this self-written poem, I want to start my mini-review.
Personally, I don’t see any point in picking on whether Makoto-san Miyazaki-san copied it or not; the former could have done better or not; and so on. Someone finds fault with the plot, someone with the style of drawing, someone else with something technical. It's all nonsense. In fact, what awakens feelings is something else: our ability to penetrate into the essence of anything, and not the mind, not even the heart, through which we feel emotions. Everything happens at a higher level than our physiology: brains, hormones. Anyway, I'm evaluating what's out there. You don't need another one.
Movie impressions? Come on! That feeling, that unconscious, uncontrollable part of us, this time was strong, unforgettable. They really were. I watched the movie a long time ago, but now I just remember. You know, I can’t write anything negative. There are no downsides to this movie.
When I heard Xiong's last song, I cried. Not as it usually is: for a reason, with bitterness, sadness... I had such mixed feelings that I probably didn’t know what I was feeling. I just had tears buried. From the beauty, fullness, feeling of this song. I really felt it in my gut. The song was full of everything that happened to us. Or rather, it happened to Xiong. This is the character I love the most. He knew he was going to die, but the stars so attracted him. I am sure that as soon as he saw them, he immediately fell in love, and therefore died happy.
Perhaps this anime is sad, sad. But this sadness is not painful, but on the contrary, some fresh and sweet. It seems that understanding the inevitable and the inevitable, the irretrievable and the unique, really turns pain into sadness, which is easier to survive.
I won't write about everything. But the ending deserves special attention. When the grown-up Asuna goes to school and shouts “Bye, Mom!” I'll be back soon!, it seemed to me that this time she would not return home, but would go to Xiong.
Well, at least it was beautiful. What is perfect is natural - the quality of the picture for Shinkai has always meant a lot. A fantasy entourage allows you to walk around: psychedelic landscapes of epic proportions are presented in the range. The atmosphere also succeeded - some kind of sadness characteristic of the author, melancholy. Speciality of this tape does not occupy. Here is the problem with everything else. First, the imitation of the classic fantasy anime - Hayao Miyazaki is very noticeable. An exiled prince fighting a monster and meeting a friend in a foreign land, huge monsters of mystical origin, even the clothes of the heroes - all makes you remember "Princess Mononoke." And here's the second problem. Still, Miyazaki is optimistic - even when gloomy. His heroes fight and win. Shinkai made an anime not about struggle - on the contrary, about humility, about inevitability. The very idea that death is natural and irreversible, and there is no point in destroying oneself with painful grief for the departed, trying to regain what is lost forever – this idea is quite sober. And it reflects well the attitude towards death in Japanese culture, which is much more calm and philosophical than in Western culture. That's what lets the director down - the film turned out to be too morbid. It is literally overflowing with a kind of solemn decadence - death is everywhere in it, everything inevitably declines, eventually disappearing forever. And, despite the fact that there is no visual gloom on the screen, longing creeps into the soul. Because, despite the words about rebirth and rebirth, death triumphs before the viewer. Without pathetics, without embellishment, without black — death as a natural element. Bottom line: a colorful, but surprisingly depressing anime that does not save even a sophisticated adventure plot (excessive, as for me). In principle, nothing but another colorful hymn of unforgiving fate could be expected from Shinkai, but, playing on a foreign field, he made a typical mistake of beginners - he tried too hard to follow the canons and classical samples of the genre. The result is a film that is quite worthy of viewing - but if there are revelations here, it is only in terms of graphic beauty. 7 out of 10 Original
I'm tired of bumping into the same spin. How many posts, pens and fans of smarting try to create priorities. N1: "Miyazaki and Shinkai are so similar, so let's go through their fantasy bags and make a useless comparison." N2: "Your Shinkai, do not compare with the great master Miyazaki, do not even try". N3: What are you trying to do? They are completely different, Shinkai just needs to grow to Miyazaki to compare them. The cycle of opinion in nature. I don’t want to repeat myself by saying that I’m already in the hole. Therefore, I will consider this work as a work of Studio Ghibli, created by Shinkai, without mentioning Miyazaki.
Heaven, stars, flight! A distinctive touch of romantic novels Shinkai as a kind of creator of the image of dreams. "Fishers of Forgotten Voices" has received many contradictory reviews on this score. But what is the meaning of "Fishers of Forgotten Voices"? This work is considered a desire to recreate, the same harmony that is so lacking in solitude. More than once in cinema we have come across the border between our world and the afterlife, and even more so if the plot takes the turn of returning to the life of the dead. The standard scheme of utopia, but people are still looking for something new. Shinkai conveyed "his vision" of the national Japanese traditions, via "Agarta". Legendary underground country, in which, according to the dowries, live the ancient powerful initiates, secretly directing the course of world events on earth and storing the gene pool of humanity in case the earth will be a global catastrophe. In other words, Agartha, like Asgard, is the seat of the gods. People lived there with the gods Quetzalcoatl. In Nahuatl, it is the name of the deity of ancient America, one of the main gods of the Aztec pantheon and pantheons of other civilizations of Central America. There were also ancient mythical creatures from ancient legends of Japanese and Indian culture. The story itself is interesting, although it is quite simple. Many references from ancient chronicles, which makes the plot more fabulous, based on mythological facts. In general, in fairy tale narratives, characters like Guest should have high color in order to more complement the world with colors and expand the target audience, starting from the earliest. Here the characters are not very colorful, but this gives the viewer the advantage of feeling the world of the gods as a real world in which there are ordinary people like us.
After the project "Five centimeters per second", Makoto Shinkai stated that most of his previous works were about people forced to part with those who are dear to them, and he decided to develop this topic further, creating a work on how to overcome this loss. Needless to say, the image is slimy with Miyazaki? Should I say anything at all...
It is extremely rare to see a work that not so much carries its emotions as awakens them in the viewer. I was one of those viewers who, watching this movie, just drowned in them.
The story of incredible mental torment, how loneliness brought people together and how the desire to find happiness almost destroyed a living person.
I would like to talk about music separately. Partly because of Tammon's music, the picture has that effect. Throughout the film, I had a huge desire to just jump into the screen and travel with our heroes.
And when I saw the credits, my first thought was, "Thank you, Makoto Shinkai!"
It’s so hard to see an ordinary, just a good movie to think about. I'm glad I can say: It’s a good movie and it’s worth watching!
I want to bless you, which means it is good that you were born.
Reading reviews that you just don’t know! And that Makoto Shinkai is copying Miyazaki, and that “Fishers of Forgotten Voices” do not reach the original bar of the director, set by him in the films “five centimeters per second” and “the garden of elegant words”. No, no, and no again! “Catchers” if not above this bar, then certainly at the level! Personally, I think it is higher. And with other paintings of this talented director, this picture cannot be compared. The subject, you know, is different.
When I started watching, I looked for references to Miyazaki’s paintings, whom I love immensely and respect. But no, this Shinkai's work, like everything I've seen, is different in spirit. He has his own, recognizable style of presentation.
I do not want to reveal the intricacies of the plot, I will only say – unexpected. Torn at the very beginning... And then — incredible, in meaning, in the picture itself. You just look and forget to breathe, sometimes with horror, sometimes with admiration, with pity and compassion. “Fishers of Forgotten Voices” is absolutely not an ordinary picture, it is able to change the view on familiar things, on life itself. Is this not the goal of every director, and any artist – that his creations influence people, not pass without a trace?
It is after this painting that Miyazaki is no longer in my heart.
If you leave the footage with the above, you will get a great short film. The sky, the stars, the cats. About loneliness. The great nature. Anything that comes to mind when you look at it. Alas, alas. The dream remained a dream.
That's crazy. I don’t like to talk badly about movies, animated or non-animated. But what was seen left a feeling of hot delirium. Makoto, Makoto, what were you smoking when you wrote the script? Please get rid of this nonsense and move on to a healthy lifestyle. They say it's useful.
A perfect wild mixture of different worldviews, thoughts, theories of different cultures associated with death and life after, which is sewn together by rough threads. The subject is actually fertile. I don't want to write, I don't want to draw, I don't want to create. The main thing is to choose a single direction of the idea. It feels like Shinkai didn't have enough screen time. Now, the idea would be a good idea to bring it to some logical end. No, let's throw it in the middle, grab the other one, and let's leave it to breathe. Why these throwing, these jumping, these dancing without a tambourine?
Heroes burn, too. Their motives and actions jump like a ping-pong ball. Dialogue adds color. It would be better to be silent, by God.
My disappointment is in the script. In the submission of material, whatever it is, there are no claims. Beautiful drawing, very picturesque panoramas. Infinitely deep sky, distant stars and a charming cat deity.
Thank you very much. Now you can throw slippers.
Genre masterpiece, fantastic fairy tale "Fishers of Forgotten Voices" immerses the viewer for two hours in suspended animation, in such a light and airy sleep, to return to reality after which - both painful and sad at the same time. Makoto Shinkai is a real beacon of modern Japanese animation, each of his works is an event that can not be ignored under any circumstances. For more than a hundred minutes you have time to experience a real adventure, experience a whole range of emotions and feelings - from tenderness and joy to longing and sadness. The cartoon is destined to become a new cult - just like the lyrical "5 centimeters per second."
Well, it's not typical Makoto Shinkai is Makoto Miyazaki or Hayao Shinkai. Imitation of the living classic can be seen both in the style of drawing and in the plot. I will not say that the experiment turned out bad, but the anime does not reach the level of Miyazaki, nor the level of Shinkai himself.
For Miyazaki, the story is too bloody, the plot cracks at the seams and there is no atmosphere (at least I did not feel it).
For Shinkai, an unconventional plot - perhaps he should have started anime from the moment it ends and we would see another love story that is not destined to survive.
But.
Don’t get me wrong, the film is very decent, interesting, with a wonderful drawing, in general, a good plot and an excellent soundtrack. I would recommend it to all fans of animation, and anime even more so. But it was largely an experiment and, perhaps, it could have turned out much better with such a master as Shinkai.
General assessment
A girl from a terrible monster is saved by a mysterious boy. She quickly falls in love with him, and with questions is not in a hurry. Now they sit on the side of a hill and listen to a mysterious song, which catches the radio, if one part there is replaced by Dad's crystal. At night, this boy who loves the stars dies.
Shinkai used to oppose Miyazaki. The piercing emotionality of his paintings was always emphasized by a minimum of phrases. Accurate metaphors drowning in silence, lack of dialogue, hyperrealistic drawings and simple characters. Now everyone is screaming that Shinkai is copying him. Previously, Shinkai did not draw strange bizarre creatures, did not use mythology as a concept (yes, he never had concepts at all - the ideas of his paintings danced not from the head, but from the heart), was not rude to his characters. No one is texting on their cell phone or using real handwritten emails. No one looks at how a rocket bursts into a cloudless sky and shares the world with its trail of flight. And a lonely kettle doesn't boil in an empty kitchen. Now the little girl goes to the strange underworld of Agartha, where, according to myths, you can bring the dead back to life. There, the girl breathes underwater, watches as strange creatures are killed, saves even smaller girls and changes the worldview of the people she meets, and herself strives to grow up. Now Shinkai has replaced emotions with words. Now Shinkai has truly become Miyazaki. But just for one movie. The film is about how the girl went to the underworld, even for himself, not deciding what is more important to her. Maybe she wanted to catch the voice she sometimes heard from the radio. Like everyone else, it is possible to recover what is lost. Or just say goodbye.
Old Shinkai is almost non-existent in "Fishers of Forgotten Voices." Just hyper-detailed landscapes, and a couple of phrases that catch the soul. The soundtrack is now not completely tearful, and dense reflection is diluted with outlandish adventures to heroic music. But still to say that the best independent author drowned in a copier can only those who are initially critical of his style. Undrawn psychological characters seem to have no purpose in their grandiose journey. Critics cling to a simple answer from a boy defending the girl. To the question “why?” he answered “I don’t know”, and even shouted it, that was strong. They say that all this mythology spoiled the purity of emotions that Shinkai once carried, the bird sat on a perch and no longer soared. But it was as if they had forgotten the voice of Shinkai, that little boy who liked to look at the trail of a rocket in the evening sky. The boy who has been chasing the stars all his life. They invented the trick they got caught in. But the author did not decide to try himself in something new - pulling all his past [creativity] with one idea of the higher "Loss", he summed up her colorful result, released demons, giving his old heroes a chance for healing. "She and Her Cat," "The Voice of a Distant Star," "Behind the Clouds," and "5 Cimeters Per Second" are images of the loss with which a poisoned heart continues to survive. It is a sentimental poison that Shinkai has struggled to eradicate from his own soul to find a cure. Say goodbye to him. People are given a chance to survive the loss.
There is simply no man-made world now dominated by buzzing wires and iron doors. The starry sky is not outside the window, and the house, as a personal prison of loneliness, no longer exists. The medieval world of Agartha offers a freedom that Shinkai probably could not express fully, just as a domestic cat cannot survive on the street. Now a negative character is not some ephemeral feeling, but a real person who can stab the heart. Now people are bleeding, they are dying. Now they can frown. People are not attached to home, a metaphor for their own fear. Shinkai embarks on a great journey because he is no longer afraid. He no longer locks himself up for months in his room, working alone. The stargazing is over. It's time to hunt them down.
If you’ve ever lost a loved one, you’ll see yourself either as a girl who lost her father, a man who lost her lover, or a boy who misses his brother. One way or another, this film not only tells you how hard it is when your loved one dies, but also explains that “death is part of life,” that “sooner or later everyone dies.” Simple truths that are sometimes so hard to accept. And then you are ready to go anywhere, even to the end of the world, even to the next world, just to see again, to resurrect the dead. How many would like this forbidden land of Agatha to exist, though full of monsters and dangers, but hiding a small hope of reunification.
Someone will step over a living person to resurrect a loved one, someone will sacrifice themselves, and someone will resign, sooner or later. Someone will not want to obey the laws and will want to turn back time, change the flow of the river in the opposite direction and will be punished, because you can not violate the laws of nature in this world or in the other. Someone knows that his time has come, and someone will understand that he must continue to live at all costs. But all these questions of life and death are so complex that sometimes it takes years for the truth to come out. An adult man fought for ten years to bring his wife back to life, and a little girl took a deadly risk just to say goodbye to a friend.
So sometimes you need to go to the next world to love this, and if it is impossible in reality, then you can at least dream or watch such a soulful, kind and instructive anime.

Undoubtedly, this picture is something new, different from the past works of Makoto Shinkai. This is just the beginning, but what a start!
Everything is in the style Shinkaya: trembling relationships, (despite all the comments) beautiful landscapes that help convey the emotions of the characters, touching to the depths of the soul the finale... New were fabulous elements, because of which Shinkai immediately began to be compared with Miyazaki. So, from my point of view, if you compare, Shinkai was able to do much more. There is drama, and uncertainty, and action, and a fairy tale that looks like the truth, and when you look at this picture, you involuntarily begin to believe in everything that is happening and try to “try on” the situation for yourself.
The plot is developing rapidly, so you really do not have to be bored. But after watching, there will be plenty of time to understand and accept what Shinkai wanted to convey to the viewer. And despite the fact that the duration of the picture is about 2 hours, I did not want to miss anything. I was just enjoying an immersion in a new, but seemingly familiar, magical world that is not much different from the real world, except for some details.
Altogether, Shinkai really did his best, and I hope most of his fans did. I look forward to new creations in the transformed style, where the fairy tale will be intertwined with life even more skillfully.

It remains unclear to me why Makoto Shinkai is compared to Master Hayao Miyazaki. Is it just for some similarity of visual effects with the products of the Studio “Gibli”? For those who have seen this, the difference is clear. Makoto’s works are completely different in depth, meaning, accents. The main theme of his work is loneliness, separation and overwhelming feeling of light sadness.
There were no exceptions to the new creation of Sinkay “Fishers of Forgotten Voices”, although we will talk about a fantastic fairy-tale world. For the first time I watched it in Japanese with Russian credits. Despite this, what was happening completely captured me, and two hours of viewing flew completely unnoticed. Probably since the time of “5 centimeters per second” nothing in this genre so excited my imagination.
Among the abundance of bright colors, completely lively green forests, beautiful landscapes of the starry sky, where, it would seem, you can reach the star with your hand, the story of the girl Asuna develops. She spends her days listening to mysterious music emanating from the crystal that she inherited in memory of her father. And the feeling of emptiness and loneliness surrounding the main character. After all, an empty room, and the light not turned off by the girl, and a shower in the night window perfectly emphasize it.
And only the appearance, albeit for a very short time, of the mysterious boy Sun is able to break this loneliness. Very finely displayed line of their relationship: there is a certain uncertainty, purity, a hint of romantic feelings light and innocent, which is inherent only in children.
Driven by this emptiness and sense of loss, Asuna travels to an unknown magical world, a world where wishes are granted to meet her friend again. How not to remember the faithful companion of the girl, an animal resembling a cat, Mimi. It immediately attracts to itself, causes the warmest emotions.
I can’t help but mention one of the key characters, Morisaki’s “schoolteacher.” He lost his wife, his only constant in the world. But his love is so great that he simply cannot survive the loss. The "Teacher" goes to Agartha to get his beloved back at any cost. In my opinion, there are some parallels with the film “Fountain”.
The storyline of Morisaki hooked even more than the line of the main character. Against this background, Asuna’s motivation and need to go on such a desperate journey is less revealed and sometimes causes me to doubt.
Actually, the main plot is a journey to the gates of life and death through the world of the Agora, filled with extraordinary colors, amazing creatures. But this world is deserted, causes depressing sensations. The reason for this is a dying civilization, destroyed by earthly rulers and sinister creatures that appear with the onset of night.
All events are quite dynamic, flashbacks are well used, there are really touching scenes. Like Asuna and Mimi's farewell. The ending is emotional, leaves a feeling of some understatement, which can not be attributed to the minuses, on the contrary, gives the opportunity to think. And, of course, a lot of deep thoughts, excellent philosophical line and reasoning about life and death.
“Death is a part of life,” says the mother of Asuna, a very young woman who does not understand what is happening, after her father’s funeral.
As the development of these reflections closer to the end, Shun will say: "The living are more important than the dead." With all understanding, humanity probably never fully understands the essence of these words. And finally, the main conclusion of the film:
Journeying for the One Goodbye is the most telling slogan I have ever seen. Sounds at first glance incomprehensible and mysterious, but after watching everything fall into place. I can not disclose the plot, but I will say with confidence that no one will be indifferent to the anime “Fishers of Forgotten Voices”. I can only add: the journey was dangerous, exciting, and goodbye was short and hopeless.
The highest appreciation deserve drawing, musical accompaniment, idea. However, I did not expect anything else from Makota Shinkai. But I can't help but add a spoonful of tar to a barrel of honey. In my opinion, anime is overloaded with mysticism. If we recall the early works of Shinkai, then, of course, it was not without fiction, but still it looked more real. Examples include The Voice of a Distant Star and Beyond the Clouds. In my favorite anime - "5 centimeters per second" - and does show the real life. Perhaps this anime is an experiment. Also insanely lacking monologues behind the scenes - the business card of Makota Shinkai. I have listed many disadvantages, but still more advantages.
The main thing that I appreciate in any film is the ability to make you think about the plot, its slight understatement. I have had enough for thought. For this I give the highest rating:
