The film adaptation, which, unlike Iñárritu’s paintings, was not originally destined for the fate of the cult or at least truly known even in narrow circles of the film project, despite a number of obvious shortcomings and no less obvious advantages of the film, related primarily to its perverted sincerity in the story of love / hatred / passion of the main characters, the genuine drama and naturalism of Eros and Thanatos, which at certain moments reaches the peak of total aberrations and pathological morbidity, coupled with the unintent negligent sincerity in the story of love / hatred / passion / passion / passion of the main characters, which is only the essence of life.

However, behind these cinematic refrains, multiple and visible on the surface of the tape, on its rough patchwork fabric allusions and references still sees the very nascent style of Hernandez - a gloomy, masculine, full of revelations and omens, entering into polemics with the above-mentioned directors, the main theme of whose work was and is still, albeit in a deeply modified form, passion sweeping away all the conventions and barriers of drive of the non-Humilian type, turning into obedient individuals. The power of submission to their own instincts, which the heroes could not resist, and therefore doomed themselves to a slow and painful death, poisoned by the cacti of evil in the Mexican desert, filled with only universal loneliness, metaphorically reflecting the very life of a weak-willed Manuel, who, however, is proud and a knife in the back to poke his beloved friend, that of a psychopathic Gregorio, for whom love was the only salvation from madness and death. According to Hernandez, trivially it turns out that love is still a bitch, and in order to successfully overcome it you need to be the same. Otherwise - a loop on the neck, a handful of pills or a jump down, because such love is not able to inspire. No one ever, not even the rabid buffalo, which were both Manuel and Gregorio, and who could not wait for such a coveted encounter.
