There is an online belief that the 2010s are the “time of the series.” And indeed, to list truly high-quality and interesting to the public series of our time, not enough fingers of two hands. People live from Monday to Monday, waiting for a new series with a translation from their favorite studio. A lot of money is being invested in the industry: makeup applied to the faces of the heroes of zombie series is sometimes unattainable and in a full meter, and the epicity of combat scenes is at such a level that it is not far off that people will demand the best episodes in 3D on the big screen. The ubiquitous excitement and availability of TV series in our time can cloud the mind of the modern viewer in terms of the fact that it has always been so. But, alas, and perhaps fortunately, the mothers and fathers of today’s schoolchildren did not spend as much time watching TV series as the students themselves spend now. The dashing nineties became the time when foreign projects began to slowly enter the everyday life of domestic film lovers. It was then that the "Roar" was born - a historical and fantastic typical middle peasant, who naturally lost himself in a pile of his kind after years.
More than once it happened that the stars agreed to star in the episode, and even in the whole season of the series (immediately before my eyes stands the school notebook ER with George Clooney on the cover), but there are many more examples when the path to a big movie opened for an actor through the series. And if for Konstantin Khabensky such a series was “Slaughter Force”, in which he played a brave policeman, then Heath Ledger fate prepared a harder job. His skip was the role of Conor, a land unifier prince who lost everything but faith. For the vast majority of potential viewers, Heath is the main attraction of the series, or what it is worth watching for. However, all of them will be disappointed - the main character of the serene and non-throwing, which immediately makes the series a few steps lower. The constant presence of white pigtails in the leader of the tribe may seem to an unprepared viewer an element of farce. Also, the series can be condemned for the absolute lack of scale and inexpressive, hastily made on computers of the nineties, special effects, but this is the trouble of many films of those years. No matter how hard you try, you will not see thirteen episodes and drops of blood, although sword fights are fought here and there, and the troops of the opposing parties are thinning before your eyes. Nevertheless, for the lack of epicity, there are quite interesting psychological intricacies, and curious villainous characters who multiply the audience’s anger from series to series do not want to compromise. Constant confrontations, nasty deeds, love "triangles" and playing on nerves - all this is in abundance. You do not have to be bored unequivocally, but the hands are stretched less and less actively to the new series the closer the final. Apotheosis becomes the penultimate episode, in which all the plot threads are unraveled, and the viewer inadvertently thinks - what will happen in the end? And in the end, we have an incredibly amorphous allusion to the second season, although on each individual frame you can see that the actors are exhausted and only “for” that this second-rate product was removed and sent for editing. No wonder the second season never came out. When all the wolves have been fed and all the sheep have been preserved, it is absolutely impossible to enter the second circle. Not to mention that the series failed on TV.
The project, which received Russian voiceover only thanks to the actor, who became famous a few years after filming it, is unable to find its audience. Easy and interesting in terms of intrigue, he loses in fact in all the “hits” of those years – “Highlander” and “Zen”. The roar could have been the third in the boat, but there are only two in it, not counting the dog ("Commissioner Rex" is also from the nineties, yes). What should distinguish a good historical series from mediocre, it is minimized, and from good fiction here horns and legs. But we should not cancel the fact that all Ledger fans will periodically be annoyed by an unidentified hole in his filmography, and, sooner or later, everyone will watch at least an episode. There is no other motivation to watch this Michael Nanjing creation.
