Cinematic conversations with a boy named Zombion! There are no white people here.
(Roughly 21 minutes of the film)
Blacula
There are a lot of white actors here. Even the grandfather from the TV series "Alph" languished...
Plot. A black prince (with his wife) comes to Dracula's castle straight from Africa. He wants to talk about abolishing the slave trade. During the negotiations, Dracula turns the prince into the vampire Blacula and kills his wife. Our days. A couple buys Dracula's castle with all the junk. Blacula gets cold and tries to find her wife.
There are different moviegoers. Someone does not watch the classics, someone watches and loves everything in a row (well, this is a rarity as not to love), and I try to find something of my own everywhere. I didn't like "Blacula." I'll explain. If you consider it from the point of view of the comedy genre, then it is not funny at all. What are the moments where you laugh? I agree, Blacula has very funny sideburns. All! It won't be enough.
Funk and soul music? This is the standard for blackploitation, there is nothing special about it. I was bored. Director William Crane shows Blacula with a serious expression. This is especially evident through the storyline of a cop who tries to catch Blacula. I mean, we got a horror movie! And thanks to all this seriousness, the picture slides into complete nonsense.
Do you remember Dracula from Lugosi? There were turbulent scenes, but one can forgive him, 1931. Forgiving the 1972 movie is much harder. I love Shafta, I love Strong Coffee, I even like Superfly. These are really cool blackplay pictures. From "Blacula" is to sleep already in the thirtieth minute.
The film was produced by one of Roger Corman's friends, Mr. Arkoff. He's got a billion thrash movies made in a couple of weeks. Here is “Blacula” with its tiny budget, collected a good box office and got a very controversial cult (I am from operational cinema). Guys, the horrors of blackploitation were the worst in this subgenre (the best are action thrillers). They were created over their sleeves and without zest.
What's the highlight of having a black actor play a vampire? For the unprepared viewer, of course. For the one in the subject, leave those pathetic excuses to yourself. Even the old Hammer vampire paintings will be cooler. I regretted only because of the more or less tolerable acting of Marshall, McGee and Rasulal.
P.S.
The opening credits are the best thing in the movie! Check it out.
