The synopsis of the film is similar to the description of some Hollywood drama, where everything will happen, and we, knowing exactly what lies ahead, will watch the predictability of the plot with emotion and will gush in the warmth that pours through the screen, and savor a pleasant vanilla aftertaste.
Then it wouldn't be Kiyoshi Kurosawa.
The order for life in the first third does not offer the viewer anything special. Even yesterday’s teenager wakes up after a coma and learns that time has jumped 10 years ahead, and a lot has happened. And these things are not the most pleasant.
The narrative stretches slowly, and we, like the main character, do not know how to behave, how to react to what is happening. A dull farm of dirt with a garbage dump and gray tones skillfully convey the right mood and immerse in a logical state. It is a wonderful game for all actors without exception. In this game, which is very characteristic of the productions of K. Kurosawa, there is a share of absurdity, and a charming frostbite with strange reactions and dialogue.
The picture is really captivating much earlier, but it is about half that it suddenly changes and changes mood. Both my own and the audience. Heroes thaw, become alive, and the color background warms, and the farm is transformed, at the dinner table again, as a long time ago, the family is going, and it turns out not so much everyone cares about each other, as it seemed before.
The film contains both scenes that can immerse in serious thoughts, and very funny moments that cannot but cause a smile. But, as is inherent in any little bit of arthouse creation, the plot here is elusive, slips away like a fish from your hands, but also swims at depths where you need to work with gray matter.
In summary, this is a movie about life, its meaning, family and happiness. A movie that leaves behind a bright sadness and acceptance, if you will.
