Shivering. Japanese horror films became famous all over the world primarily thanks to such franchises as "The Call" and "The Curse". Associations of female characters with long black hair with Japan have become so famous that they have risen even within the framework of stereotypes, but, meanwhile, the folklore of the Land of the Rising Sun is replete with various fantastic monsters, or "yokai". As someone interested in East Asian culture, I was delighted with the film, in which a creature appears, unlike either Sadako or Kayako.
Tsok-tsok I have long been convinced that the Japanese have no equal in creating memorable sound effects, and the clinking sounds made by a woman running in her arms remain in memory for a long time after watching. In addition, we are often shown a first-person view with a specific color scheme - something that delights any connoisseur of horror films. This film will not have a philosophical subtext, which, perhaps, not all viewers like. Koji Shiraishi, still actively shooting horror, wanted to make a terrible film, and he made it. Do you want to feel fear? Please! The tension arises almost from the first minute, when the action is transferred to the railway crossing hidden by dusk - the shelter of Teketeke.
Everything is presented in a way that resembles an ordinary horror story, which was and will always be popular. The only difference is that everything stretches for a long time, unfolding around the story of a girl Kana (Yuko Oshima), who was not lucky enough to attract Teketeke. All of us on a subconscious level believe that any self-respecting monster hides in the dark and before you kill someone, necessarily frighten, because our fear is food for him. The sensations are added by the rumor that, once met, Teketeke will be impossible to get rid of, and she will overtake you anywhere. Fans of excitement after such films for a long time will be under a strong impression, and how else, when the director perfectly conveys the necessary atmosphere of fear?
Koji Shiraisi is not the most successful director, but his Tsok-tsok was successful. This is an excellent example of horror, designed for viewing in a large company. On such an example, you can once again see that the knowingly true key to success is the manifestation of your own ingenuity. A solid ten.
