“Somehow I needed a wheelchair.” We were in the hospital and Jack stole it. A then let me go on her under the hill. In general, in the current realities, it is very difficult to imagine that the actress, who has become popular in recent years, starred in a film whose budget was only 125 thousand dollars (!). But that’s how much was invested in the creation of the drama “Your Sister’s Sister”, where one of the main roles was played by Emily Blunt, who has already become quite famous thanks to such films as “The Devil Wears Prada” (2006) and “Changing Reality” (2011). I don’t know what the actress’s fee was, but I can assume that the creators of the film did what Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez did in their time: they paid one dollar each (less are prohibited by union rules) for participating in the creation of a particular film. In the legal field it is called “pro bono”, and here it is something like a cinematic pro bono.
The script, which was written by Lynn Shelton (she is also the director of Your Sister's Sister), is simple in its own way, but it has a fair amount of drama that attracts attention if you consider yourself a fan of low-budget films created, so to speak, for "Independent Spirit", which is so famous for the Sundance Film Festival, established by Robert Redford. So, a young man named Jack (Mark Duplass) on a bicycle comes to a small country estate at the invitation of his friend Iris (Emily Blunt). There, after the breakup with the girl (the LGBT community can rejoice again!), lives Iris’ sister Hannah (Rozmary DeWitt). Iris decided that she had to come the next day to see Jack, who had recently lost his brother, and to support him, and in the meantime to solve more serious issues for herself. Jack and Hannah spend day, evening and night together. At the same time, Jack has been in love with Iris for a long time and now they agree that the arriving girl will not find out anything. But it was not so easy to keep it in yourself.
In the description of the plot, I do not open any unnecessary plot twists so that the review is not branded with the terrible word “spoiler”. Any viewer who wants to see “Your Sister’s Sister” will have something to look at and will empathize with the main characters for. But you need to be prepared for the fact that in the film, in fact, the main characters are only three and above, I named them, all the other actors are not much different from the usual extras, which will not be remembered. In addition, “Your Sister’s Sister” is filmed in only a few locations and the lion’s part of the timekeeping action takes place in a small country house. Because of this, the film can be called a kind of “telepiesa”, because it hardly claims more. Despite the good performance of the actors, Lynn Shelton’s work does not reach the level to talk about something interesting. Seriousness and originality in the picture is certainly there, but somehow with a great stretch they are perceived. For comparison, we can call the film “Fences”, which not so long ago came out, here it can definitely become an image of the last time how it is necessary to transfer plays to the cinema.
And since I spoke for the acting and indicated that it is good, it is necessary to report it more fully. I liked Rosemary DeWitt better than Emily Blunt. I can’t even explain what, but whether the sincerity in her heroine is more, or vitality. In general, it is quite difficult to explain this, although I do not beg for merit and Emily Blunt, who performed her role well. And harmoniously in the company of two beautiful women fit Mark Duplass, who has a rather dramatic character, but especially deeply begins to understand him when he leaves on his bike where his eyes look. And yet the film ends on a definitely major note, which is why I want to rejoice from the heart for the heroes of the film Your Sister. It should happen so that in 12 days they shoot a picture completely put on the improvisation of actors. This is really interesting to see.
I can not unrestrainedly recommend this film to anyone, here everyone must decide for himself whether he wants to watch it or not. But if you do not dislike cinematic experiments, then why not at least once pay attention to “Your Sister’s Sister”, if only because almost the entire film is a continuous improvisation of actors?
