The film is reminiscent of "Meadow Dogs" and (very little) "Bridge to Terrabitia." The movie is just timeless – remove the mention of Google and the end of the Cold War, and the action can be moved to the 80s without changing anything else. Also, a quiet antisocial child (well, a teenager) finds a friend in the face of handyman Sam Rockwell (it does not leave the feeling that this is the same character from “Meadow Dogs”. Owen, although a secondary character, but the real gold of the film, and the scene “I need a hero” is just a top.
This is a great example of growing up. Duncan literally before his eyes grows as a person, ceases to slouch, to be a wordless victim. In fact, nothing has changed.
This is one of those movies that you can’t say whether you liked it or not.
I came across this film quite by accident, studying the filmography of Sam Rockwell. Like many other wonderful films, this one passed our big screens safely, and if it wasn’t for Three Billboards, I might never have heard of it.
The film tells the story of a teenage boy, whom Maman and her relatively new husband drag to the dacha. I think many of you, as a child, thought with shudder about traveling to the country in the summer, and then there is such a company. Khahal is frankly schewing with his neighbor’s wife, with whom he has already, so to speak, been close acquainted, the mother is mostly sad at home, so our hero is staggering wherever he can and yearns. As a result, he finds himself a “shelter” in a local water park, where the team is not even a collective, but rather a large family, the main cocksucker and balcony in which is, in fact, the hero of Sam Rockwell. As you can guess, it is this family that will temporarily replace the boy’s real family for this summer.
The film turned out to be very multifaceted, it is not a drama or a comedy, but something in between, depending on the angle of view at a particular moment. Then you see pictures of a small town in winter, when the water park, of course, is closed, and everything freezes in anticipation of the new season, everyone sits in bars and then and then look at the clock - when can I go to bed? Then you are rooting for the mother of the main character, so that she already abandoned her unsympathetic man and took care of children, or something. Then you laugh at the charming Rockwell, realizing, however, that in too large doses he can still probably get.
In general, in my opinion, this is a film that leaves you with a sad, bright feeling. Bright because at least this summer the boy-hero was so happy. Sad because even if they come back (which is not a fact), it will be a completely different story, other people, because in a year a boy can be reborn into another teenager and forget about everything, because Rockwell is likely to be forever stuck in the role of a cocky adult teenager until he falls off the roof in the winter or something like that. But that's all after. And now just thank you to this film for debunking the myth that cinema has not been made for 20 years. It turns out that it does happen.
The main character, like an aspiring serial killer, at the beginning of the film not only does not know how to communicate with people, he practically does not know how to talk. His stepfather, played by Steve Carell, tries to discourage him, anger him, make him change. So what does the guy do to make the final change? Nothing. Nothing at all, because the world turns out to revolve around him and is filled with exceptionally good people whose only purpose is to help him in life. Anna-Sophia Robb, who is so beautiful here that for the sake of just one date with her I am ready to go on war crimes, herself comes up to him, in their dialogues speaks for both of them and becomes his girl, although the guy did nothing for it. Sam Rockwell personally takes the initiative to make friends with him and become a great friend, and then all the other employees of the water park do the same. Work? Sam Rockwell offers it himself, the guy didn't even think to ask.
There was another moment when the guy had to prove the presence of eggs by expelling the accumulated informals from the water park. I counted on a scandal, horns, a manifestation of character, but the gopari turned out to be the friendliest gopars in the world, they absolutely calmly left, having previously highly appreciated in the form of loud applause absolutely poor dancing skills of the guy. And so, without showing character, he immediately receives respect from colleagues in the water park.
As a result: the guy has a girl, friends, impressions and money, although he did not make any effort to get them.
Steve Carell here is a perfectly normal guy who, as I said, is trying to provoke a guy to act. Moreover, even the writers understand this, so to still show the villainous essence of Carrell, they force him to change the mother of the main character, otherwise the viewer will have no reason to consider Carrell antagonist of the film.
At the same time, the movie, in general, is not boring to watch, there are funny moments, everything is done quite brightly, positively and in the summer, Carrell is beautiful, Rockwell and Allison Jenny chicly play the comedy, Anna-Sophia Robb is inexpressibly beautiful, Glavhero, to whom I have a strong antipathy, while also played well - Liam James looks confident.
Verdict: filmed well, but the plot and the resulting idea that you do not need to do anything in life to get what you want, because it will come by itself and in the best copies, does not allow you to evaluate higher than 4/10.
Warning: People under the age of 21 are strictly prohibited from viewing! Cinema brilliantly motivates young immature minds to continue to lie on the couch in anticipation of the inevitable miracle.
How should I remove
To make Glavroy try to achieve his goals, to show that Carrell's deliberate disrespect angered him and forced him to move to prove to him and himself that he can. He had to get the girl himself, find a job himself, interested Rockwell willingness to work for two, and already at work to find friends and by showing character to win their respect. He could establish relations with his half-sister, who also considered him a rag, and for Carrell it was not necessary to invent a mistress to show that the guy can resist him, it was possible to calmly at all everyday moments to show that the guy, personally winning a girl, a job, friends, money and respect, changed, Carrell noticed this and began to treat him differently.
Duncan arrives in a coastal town with her mom and her new boyfriend (and his daughter). Duncan is silent, shy and clumsy, but suddenly finds his place in the sun.
Very kind, easy, uncomplicated, but not stupid, interesting movie! Excellent place of filming, scenery, camera work, bright colors of the surrounding world, musical accompaniment and the overall atmosphere of the film. Here perfectly balanced sadness and joy, drama and fun. The film is full of life, adventure, experience and summer.
I saw Steve Carell for the first time as a (frankly) real goat, and he did a great job! I almost forgot that it was a sweet and kind Carell - so I hated his character. From Tony Collett turned out an ordinary such (sometimes unsatisfactory) mother and woman with their (not small) cockroaches in his head. Liam James well portrayed aimlessly wandering teenager who secretly and passionately falls in love with a new hobby that changes his life. Sam Rockwell is just the star of the movie. The very spontaneity, the ridiculous sexuality and the stupid (in a good way) masculinity. I enjoyed every second he was in the picture. I think it was he (and his character) who made this film so warm, kind and sweet.
A movie about family life, about teenagers and their social problems, about carelessness, arrogance, friendship and how it changes people for the better.

“Dancan, how do you evaluate yourself on a scale from 1 to 10?”—“Not so.”
The family melodrama “The Road, the Road Home”, which debuted as directors of the duo Jim Rash and Nat Faxon, begins with the fact that a man behind the wheel, whose name is Trent, begins to treat a young man named Duncan. At first, you might think that this overbearing and tough father is raising his offspring, but it turns out that Trent may be Duncan's future stepfather. What right does he have to behave like that? And why is Duncan's mom, Pam, turning a blind eye? Why wouldn't Trent raise his own daughter, Steph? And the saddest thing is that Trent has the appearance of a beautiful comedian Steve Carell. The one we cared about in Forty Year Virgin, Little Miss Happiness and Evan Almighty because he was so sweet, so kind, so touchingly miserable. All of a sudden, this nasty thing is Trent!
If we go on in a serious way, then in fact honor and respect for the acting talent and skill of Steve Carell, who was able to reincarnate from the eternal phlegmatics into such a “man-like”. Trenta. This is clearly one of the notable finds of the film, for which you can at least pay attention to “The Road, the Way Home”. Another thing that attracts the film is that in fact it is a summer entertainment (there is a term when the film is shot during the holidays and sets itself the task of becoming an entertainment spectacle). In fact, Trent, Duncan, Pam and Steph go to a cottage on the coast somewhere far from the big cities. Trent allegedly wants to cement family ties with the help of a joint vacation. And from a quick glance at the review of the film, you would think that it was based on American family values, but this is not quite true. And this is intriguing, so once again I recommend you to look at "The road, the road home."
The film after the introductory part completely shifts the audience’s attention to Duncan, who was then played by seventeen-year-old Liam James, who deserved a nomination for the MTV award in the Breakthrough of the Year category (lost it to Will Poulter for his role in the comedy We Millers). Duncan is a melancholy young man who prefers to stay at home rather than go out with friends. He has no friends at all. Until he comes on vacation. The seemingly boring and dreadful trip turns into a kaleidoscope of new emotions when Duncan meets Owen, a lifeguard from a local water park. Duncan greedily soaks up Owen's worldview, which is never discouraged. Duncan learns what friendship is and learns the first childhood love. And you know what's most important? And the fact that you're happy to stand for Duncan, he deserves it, it's great that he found Owen and this park instead of being around Trent and his friends and mother all the time!
Owen, who opened his eyes to Duncan’s world, is played by Sam Rockwell, whom I admit I don’t feel very good about, especially after he played Confessions of a Dangerous Man. But I can say that subjectively Rockwell looked best in the movies “Meadow Dogs”, “Moon 2112”, and now in “The Road, the Way Home”. His Owen is a cheerful guy, but the main thing is that he is a Friend with a capital letter. Thanks to the actor for that. Among the workers of the park, you can see the directors of the film Jim Rash (his Lewis is something with something, how he responds to hamstrings you need to listen!) and Nat Faxon. Maya Rudolph will appear in the form of a kind of contrast to Owen, but, as you know, the plus stretches to the minus. And these guys left behind Allison Janney, Rob Cordry and Amanda Pete! Only Steve Carell and Tony Collett (Pam) will compete with the cheerful and friendly team of water park workers. And AnnaSophia Robb will be Duncan's first love and she will not be an evil girl like the same Steph.
A good film, which is a family melodrama in the genre, that is, you should watch it as if the whole family, but it is better to do it alone, so you are more imbued with those characters that are presented here, manage to appreciate the character of Duncan, manage to sympathize with him and have time to rejoice for him. You want to shake Owen's hand, tell Pam to finally get out of Trent's grip, and it's time for Trent to realize he's not the navel of the Earth. In general, with all the ease of the genre “Dear, Way Home” makes you think and analyze what you see. I recommend it.
It's not every day you see real comedians in drama. Carell is the unforgettable crazy boss of everyone who loved the TV series “The Office”, and Rockwell is the most notorious psychopath from the movie “Seven Psychopaths”. And I want to tell you, they are always pleasant to watch, whether it is a comedy or a drama, or even horrors (even not the most successful, like a poltergeist).
This time, Carell once again tries to conquer the top of the dramaturgy and his character is completely pure of humor and does not represent any interest in the form of a clown. He plays an adult, divorced man who has decided to connect his life with a similarly grown and divorced woman. But here's the bad luck, along with this woman, he arrives a gift in the form of an adult and very wonderful teenager, the son of his beloved.
Rockwell, on the contrary, prefers to stay in his path and plays a narcissistic, selfish, but incredibly charming guy who works in a water park. Where he and the main character Doncan will meet to change their lives.
The story is interesting and ambiguous. I'm sure a lot of people took Doncan's side and felt sorry for the poor guy. For some reason, I felt sorry for Trent. Judge for yourself, a beautiful woman comes into his life, with whom he is in love, and he gets a downtrodden guy who always spoils everything. He wanders around the house idle, with a sad mine, as if life failed and he is about to twitch. How can you not freak out? You say three? I'd call him one! Trent tried to help him, he tried to communicate with him. And the guy was offended by the whole world and could not perceive self-care as care, he somehow treated it as bullying.
Even though the story sometimes pissed me off, as I wasn’t rooting for Doncan at all, I still enjoyed the film. If it weren't for Rockwell, he'd be asleep. Events unfold rather slowly, Doncan constantly irritates with all his phlegmatic appearance and only Rockwell, like the sun in the gloomy sky, constantly delights with his appearance.
In the life of a 14-year-old boy, Duncan stopped moving forward: parents are divorced - mom found a new man who could replace Duncan's father, and dad started a relationship with a girl much younger than him and, it seems, he does not care about Duncan. Trent, “Mother Hahal”, constantly abuses Duncan, reminding him of his place on the 1 to 10 scale, and cheats on his life partner, for which Duncan hates him even more. Having decided that something needs to be done with this and, first of all, help yourself to enjoy life again, and not depend on the whims of her mother, she gets a job in a water park.
Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, the directors and screenwriters of the project, have a lot of knowledge in the field of work in film and television. They know how to build a frame, how to get the right talent from the actors and, most importantly, what is the best way to choose a musical accompaniment. They also know how to steer the film in such a way that it doesn’t get boring and that the film doesn’t seem pretentious, tactless or fake. “The road, the road home” or, as it would be more correct to call it, “In the back seat” is a wonderful movie for a speedy uplift and just rest for nerve cells.
It’s nice to look at the actors: Duncan is empathetic, and not think of him as a “bad boy”, for the jokes of Owen (in the brilliant performance of Sam Rockwell) you see a deeply desperate attempt not to resign yourself to the monotonous and boring life in the evenings and weekends, in his spare time, and Pam reveals himself as a flower that was plucked, but who was able to put roots into the ground. At the same time, it is pleasant to listen to the musical accompaniment - not intrusive and relevant to individual episodes. And from the picture - just do not take your eyes off: bright, "sea" and pleasant.
The film performs in the best traditions of such projects as The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Little Miss Sunshine, and perfectly adapts to modern realities on a topic that will be relevant at all times, because we are people.
I fell in love with Tony Collette after the movie 'Little Miss Happiness'. After that, I decided to watch more films with her participation and came across this film.
I liked the movie. It has a good plot, not a toilet American sense of humor, good actors, a pleasant atmosphere.
I can't say it's a comedy or a drama in its purest form. It's more of a tragicomedy. There are dramatic notes in this film, but they are seasoned with the warm summer sun, so they are perceived more easily.
If you like movies about family, about the relationship between teenagers and parents, then this is the film for you.

I decided to watch the movie because he was with Steve Carell. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have a major role in this movie (and that’s what I expected). He kept watching and watching him, but now he will show himself, but he did not see anything like that. Saw a glimpse of a boy who dislikes his stepfather and tries to earn some extra money. And we saw him in a way that made him look good. But something got me. After watching, there was some aftertaste. Now I understand, the boy, with his youthful maximalism, considered his stepfather an unworthy person and tried to hypocrisy and get along with him.
But maximalism has taken its toll, the guy has a sense of conscience. His stepfather has treated him unfairly, and his teenage soul cannot come to terms with this injustice. He cannot demand an apology, he cannot be a child who apologizes to a child. And he can't strike because he's weaker.
And he did not give up, he lived according to conscience, lived and behaved as he should have done in justice. How do we know what's fair and what's not? When fair and inconvenient words sound, it is awkward to speak and everyone is silent, and that is exactly what happened. Everyone is silent because they know what is fair and what is not and do not want to interfere so as not to get into trouble. When there is no problem, it is very convenient. He was not afraid to live according to his conscience.
Of course, we have to talk about Sam Rockwell.
Who I don’t know how to explain, carried something bright, and around him gathered good people, he attracts good people and they do not know why. Good people who treat each other and each other well. A guy laughs once for a movie and it's worth watching a movie for. While the hero of Steve Carell, feeling his antipode could not be with him, because he knew, the truth is not on his side.
The most important advice that should be given, as I think, when watching a movie, is an indication of what to look at. My advice is to look at the laughter of the heroes.

Before you is a sweet and airy, like a marshmallow film, a refreshing, like a mint candy picture, a hilariously sad story of one growing up. Together with the eternally depressed boy Duncan, we slowly but surely (and with a great deal of pleasure) crawl out of the cramped shell of complexes and hidden grievances. Together with him, we hate not to the extent of the sarcastic unshaven stepfather, sympathize with the confused mother, fall in love with a charming blonde and find ourselves in the small and insanely spiritual world of a coastal water park.
It is very important to find a person who will believe in you, allow you to fully open up, define the boundaries and contents of your self, and how great it is that Duncan met such a person! It is painfully sad that the boy’s stepfather was such a bastard stubborn donkey as the hero of Steve Carell (who, by the way, surprised by the change of the eternal role of a charming loser), and not such an amazing man as Owen (also chic Sam Rockwell), who is able to discourage anyone if not an endless waterfall of brilliant jokes, then a serious inspiring conversation. How cleverly he began his plan to liberate the timid Duncan by inviting him to his water park! He challenged the boy after challenge, veiled in endless humor, and sincerely enjoyed the spectacle of a teenager spreading his wings.
The film begins and ends with the motive of the road. But if at the beginning in the back seat of a Buick in humiliating loneliness sits angry at the whole world and at himself, the “boy on three”, then in the final shots the viewer smiles self-sufficient personality, full of summer warmth and sun, a person who tasted the sweet fruits of real friendship, unity and recognition, whose lips still abound with an unexpected kiss of a charming girl. And next to this happy man sits, finally extricated from the net of deception, again close and so loved by his mother.
Sometimes it is nice to take a break from all possible dramas, art houses and other serious things and just enjoy a pleasant comedy. Lately, I’ve been fading from films like Little Miss Happiness, Descendants, or Juno. I could not imagine that such films, once popular in America in the 70-80s, can not only look really serious, but also touch the delicate strings of your soul, causing exceptionally positive emotions and feelings of nostalgia.
Yes, on the one hand it is too sentimental comedy, the likes of which we have seen before, and therefore it is not difficult to predict the whole plot, sequence of actions and ending; but on the other hand, the film is very damn positive. Watching an hour and a half of Duncan transform from a roommate into a person, how he makes his first friends, how he works in a water park (the coolest moments occur there), how he first begins to contact a representative of the opposite sex and how he solves his personal problems related to his family is very interesting. But that’s not the only reason I liked the film. First of all, the film made me want summer to come soon. Yes, the most wonderful and magical time when you, having passed possible sessions, tests and exams, can walk all day and all night, sleep until the evening, have a girlfriend (boyfriend), enjoy warm days, go to the beach, go out of town, etc. For me, as a teenager and an eternal child, this period of time means a lot, because I am young and I, like Duncan, still have everything ahead.

Strangely, but such light films are often lost and do not reach their viewer, and in cinemas they literally wind up to nausea tape of dubious quality, but box office quantity.
I don’t know if this movie can be called a narrative, because they tell us about a short episode in the life of a teenager who has a hard time burning through his days in the back seat, while others have fun to the fullest.
Duncan is a 14-year-old teenager living a life in the back seat. He's not like his peers. He's also happy that he's just walking around the apartment. This summer, he and his family, which includes his mother, stepfather and sister, go on vacation. Everyone thinks Duncan can't have fun. His stepfather considers him a "three" on a 10-point scale. He sucks here, but by chance he gets acquainted with people who become not only friends, but also help him cope with internal instability, give confidence in himself and help him deal with problems in the relationship between his stepfather and mother.
In fact, the plot itself is not far away from the same “It’s good to be quieter” or “Neighbors”, only the tape “In the back seat” is more friendly. For the sake of friendship, the main character is ready to exchange his whole life for some amusement park. An adult guy with a car who met the main character causes distrust in his mother. But Duncan doesn’t care about the whole family, because they themselves are not far from the same attitude.
As for the coherence of the actors, there are no complaints. Both the protagonist (Liam Jace) and the other characters (Steve Carell, Tony Collett, Sam Rockwell, etc.) are perfectly matched. Everyone gets the most out of themselves and you can see it.
At the end of the picture there is a sediment of incompleteness. It seems that the hero has almost reached his dream, he is happy and here again the paths diverge and the road awaits him, the road home.
The whole impression leaves a good one, and I would even like to recommend this film, but without crooking my heart, I will say that when watching films with a similar plot, I always expect that this time I will fall in love with new actors, a new plot, new adventures and new feelings. And this time, alas, I only had a good time in my “back seat”, which, perhaps, I wish you.

Yes. I started drinking again, got over it and moved on.
I love movies like Little Miss Happiness. This picture is as if from the creators of the above film, as well as in the film play Steve Carrell and Tony Collett, which also can not but refer us to this film.
But the movie itself reminded more of "Culture and Recreation Park" with Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart. There was also a vacation from the main character and he worked in an amusement park, where he found real friends and even love. The films are very similar and even very similar.
In general, the cast is happy at least because there is Tony Collette in it. I love this actress since the days of the TV series "United States of Tara". Next on the list is a wonderful Steve Carrell, probably for the first time in my memory appeared in a negative image. There is also a promising Anna-Sophia Robb, rehabilitated in my eyes after the soap opera "Carrey's Diaries" (if you don't know, this is an unsuccessful backstory series for the TV series "Sex and the City"). Also in the film plays Allison Jenny, very nice to me. Well, all the humorous function for a couple with Jenny was taken over by the guy shirt Sam Rockwell, known to me by the black comedy 7 psychopaths. His character is almost the most funny and touching. So it seems to show what a bad actor's "gang" picked up.
In general, no matter how convincing and chic the actors are, we consider history first. It's not bad, and the script is not bad either. Everything is so, you know, average, so you can say "not bad" for all the epects. All this is familiar from the Park of Culture and Recreation, so it does not bring much joy. Unless the actors... The life they truly reflect. And the final could have been brighter to catch on. The heroine Collette (mother of the main character) could do something more radical than act like her teenage son (could leave the boyfriend who cheats on her and is not interested in establishing contact with her son). I would change the song at the end! 50% of the impressions are made by the end of the film. At least for me.
The film is a bit vague and vague in message and morality, but that doesn't mean there's no morality. The moral of this fable is that everyone must find their way through trial and error. Naturally, this is not the first time we hear and see, but the topic is eternal, so it is inappropriate to scold for banality here. A synonym for the word “good” is the word “good”. So the movie is definitely good and deserves to be seen, though once.
- And then the Wicked Witch grabbed me and killed me. - Uh -- that wasn't in the books. Sometimes real life is worse than fairy tales.
I began to watch this film after I saw the list of actors, did not even look into the synopsis, and the trailer looked so fluently that I did not really catch even iota of the plot. Not really. As it turned out after viewing, there was nothing significant there. All you need to know is a fairy tale film, a fairy tale about a boy whose mother and father separated because of the betrayal of the latter. Soon there is a stepfather and step sister, with whom there is no mutual understanding between the boy, but not the mother. No, she's happy, but no one understands Duncan, our protagonist. He is introverted, spends days in an empty apartment, all alone. He doesn’t have any friends, nor does he try to make them. It looks like he is waiting for a lonely and unusually dull life. It wasn't here... On a trip that doesn’t promise to be fun, he meets the perfect mentor (alya dad, who never was), the girl of his dreams, the happiness of his mother and a mountain of friends to boot. As a result, it will turn out that the only place where understanding and experiencing people live is a water park.
The stepfather of the boy, the only sane person and part-time villain of this wonderful story, is played by Steve Carell, who (I will not cease to repeat this) is very dramatic serious roles. Our antagonist, showing obvious neglect, tries to smile through his teeth: makes the boy carry bags, wash dishes with him and finally take off his rose-colored glasses and understand that this can not continue. What a scoundrel!
It is not clear what idea was tried to betray this film? Probably, everything in the world flows and changes, and no matter how hard it is, a good uncle will always come and fix everything, so sit on your butt and everything will work out.
I want to celebrate the wonderful performance of Steve Carell and Allison Jenny, brought back to reality. I can’t say anything about the others, the slick script caught my eyes too much, but Jim Rash was pleased with his appearance.
In general, if you do not have a beautiful fairy tale with a good ending - a film for you, well, for the sake of good jokes, in the sense of no vulgarities, you can watch (this is now as a relic of the past).
P.S. While writing the review, Thor’s adverts, namely a grinning Loki, gave the writers a sense of mockery.
You know the fairy tale of Snow White, an evil stepmother, a weak-willed father and hardworking dwarves? So, “The road, the road home” is a slightly modified version of this old and, as usual, a little bloodthirsty fairy tale. Only instead of a pale orphan with dark hair, the main role is played by an angular, closed teenager with a hair of the same color (lullness and hairstyle slightly reminiscent of the American version of Gaspar Ulliel), the place of the father’s henpat was taken by the doubting parent of the hero, and the usually kind and affable on-screen Steve Carell was reincarnated as a tyrant stepfather. This stepfather is training a poor teenager, cooler than the deputy built before recruits on the parade ground. He has long forgotten what adolescence is, he did not realize that in addition to stepfathers nagging, the guy has his own invented problems full of a box. The boy's mother diligently takes her eyes aside and quietly plugs her ears every time Duncan and Trent have a dialogue brewing. We are ready to write the boy in losers-champions, but then (just in time) there is a good fairy, or rather not a fairy (the fairy is from Cinderella), but seven friendly gnomes-workers in the only person of Owen, the manager of the water park. The face is a little overgrown, with fashionably excavated hair (such is the style of Sam Rockwell lately), but an open joyful smile and attention for Duncan is what the doctor prescribed! To say that Owen is industrious is a great sin against the truth, but his friendliness is enough for a dozen such unfortunate Duncans. It would not be superfluous to attribute Rockwell also the role of the Prince Charming, because after his unobtrusive intervention in the life of the guy, he seems to wake up from hibernation, shakes up and from an eternally frowning teenager turns into a quite profitable son.
The film was not without heartwarming moments and soulful scenes, as well as a solo performance of Mr. Rockwell, who humors, drinks, sings and, of course, dances. Even though this charmer has already given out his crown feint with his feet in at least three films, how can anyone leave indifferent his brilliant dance?
Summing up, I’ll add that in addition to the charming men, there are no less charming ladies in the film, although the guys still pull the blanket over themselves. Toni Collette is not the first to be a mom on the screen (Little Miss Happiness, 2006), as well as Allison Jenny (The Help, 2011), but this film definitely stands out Jenny. Because you can either dream of a mom like Betty or think with a shudder.
“The road, the road home” is a family movie, smooth and calm, without particularly sharp jumps in tension. It catches its naturalness and genuine sincerity. And since the action takes place in the hot summer, it is much more pleasant to watch in the cold season, remembering the past summer season and anticipating the future.
Go where you are happy. Run, fly, but be sure to return to those places where it is good for you - and "you" is the keyword here.
An incredible movie. So simple, wonderful and sincere that you just want to cry with happiness - not so many such pictures are shot recently. More and more about fiction, in 3D, or stupidity. “The Way Back” is a real, live movie for the whole family, beautiful and interesting.
How do you rate yourself on a scale of 1 to 10? If you are ever asked a question, do not rush to answer it. And if someone tells you that he evaluates you somewhere on the “three”, even if it is your mother’s friend, run away from him, never return to him and never look at him – such people only spoil life.
What is the film about? More like family relationships. About how you can humiliate a teenager, drive him “in yourself” – and how you can revive this teenager. They come alive. The dead are humiliated.
Everything is presented in bright, but not glossy colors, so that the eye is happy. A summer movie with lots of light, greenery and water. Funny, sad at the same time, it should bring only positive emotions.
Robb is beautiful; Liam James is not always, but the last seconds with his smiling eyes will make you forget about some of his unnatural shoals.
Watch a good, kind movie, so that the soul rejoices, and not the brains rot from all the nonsense that is so often passed off as a smart movie. "The Way Way Back" - a beautiful dramatic comedy (comedy here, however, not so much) for the whole family.
Let me be clear: this movie has nothing to do with going home. In 2007, the script was written and the title read: 'The Way Back'. However, in order not to confuse the film with ' Way Home' with Colin Farrell, the title was replenished with another 'Way'. So this is ' The Way Back' refers to the rearmost seat in the car, which often appears in the film - station wagon. Without thinking twice, you can trace the metaphorical name of the protagonist - 14-year-old Duncan (Liam James), who most of the time sits in this very back seat. No one takes him seriously, especially Trent’s stepfather (Steve Carell), and he is vulnerable and, being the complete opposite of the adults around him and suffering from childish maximalism, takes words and deeds more than seriously. This film offers us to follow as Duncan grows up and understands that life should be treated easier. This helps him to get acquainted with Owen (Sam Rockwell), an employee of the water park, who also had a difficult childhood with his stepfather.
The authors of the film - Jim Rash and Nat Faxon, famous for their Oscar-winning script for ' Descendants', decided to create a similar film for a reason. The main inspiration was the opening scene, which was inspired by the identical conversation 14-year-old Jim Rash with his stepfather.
Dialogue from the film:
Trend: Duncan! On a scale of 1 to 10, how many do you think you are?
Duncan: 6!
Trend: I think you're 3! Since I started dating your mom, I haven't seen you show up in any way. Maybe you can improve your ratings while staying at my beach house this summer.
To give them credit, they managed to convey Duncan's puberty tipping point very well. Especially delivers the dialogue Duncan with his mother Pam (Tony Collette), who very clearly describes the situation of the protagonist:
Pam: Where were you Duncan? Duncan: Nowhere. Pam: Haven't you been anywhere for too long?
Duncan: But that's where I was!
The non-trivial humor of well-written dialogues combined with Sam Rockwell’s talent establishes a first-class chemistry between the protagonist and Owen. The scene of their second meeting at the water park, when Owen realizes that Duncan needs help growing up, causes a natural fit of laughter.
Owen: I'm afraid I'll have to ask you to leave!
Duncan: What? Owen: You're having too much fun. You embarrass others. Duncan: All right. Owen: Wow! I was kidding! This is not even the best of my jokes!
Generally speaking about the actors, I want to note that the film was made ' two and a half people' This is Liam James, playing Duncan, incredibly funny and sweet Sam Rockwell, as well as Steve Carell, who, for the first time in my memory, plays a negative character, and a brazen alpha male, and despite all the oxymoron of the situation (at least for me it is this: Steve Carell was always ridiculous and or funny) he perfectly played the role of an insensitive stepfather. The rest of the caste was also on top, just wanted to highlight this trinity, embodied the brightest characters.
Unfortunately, the film has a small number of skip scenes and staged oversights. But it does not matter, because in the end Duncan manages to achieve that fate ' the rear seat' it is no longer stigmatized, and therefore the movie deservedly declared a great pastime. However, it is desirable to view in the original voice.
P.S. - The Way Way Back! On a scale of 1 to 10, what do you think you are? Never mind, it's rhitorical. I think you're 8!
