Maniac-policeman Not every horror cycle is able to live to the seventh part, remaining high-quality, sometimes removing past mistakes and towering subsequent films over some of the previous ones. “The Rebel from Hell” died on the fourth, “The Nightmare of Elm Street” on the third, and “Saw” for the seventh time is very pleased with how the plot twists that bear the brain, the very history and visual design of the bloody orgy of moralistic motives.
The brilliant thriller again turned out to be impeccably brilliant, and unexpected twists are not assembled in a beam at the end, but carefully arranged as the plot progresses, increasingly capturing the audience’s attention, and differing in the incredible expressiveness of the plot among the incredibly spectacular and bloody traps, this time presented even in 3D format. Some will quite entertain, making you horrified and at the same time enjoy the entertainment of fans of visual film violence, others spectacularly splash blood, intestines and other particles flying from the screen of structures and things directly human bodies, well, and still others will place the viewer in the place of the unfortunate victim, practically making you feel the agony of pain and intense tension, combined with reflections on the choice and possible ways of saving a character.
And if the previous part looked rather sluggish production, where the director's debut for lack of experience twisted a great script not the best pitch, this time Kevin Groutert proved himself as a wonderful director, investing his whole soul in the work. The presentation of key flashbacks, the focus on the most significant moments of the whole story, the characteristic homages to the previous parts and easy references to them, all look very professional work and respect for the fans of the series.
Even more attention is paid to fans by screenwriters, since it is a bunch of all sorts of fanfictions and theories that finally find embodiment in the reality of what is happening in the film universe. The epic ending, models of traps, some key ideas - a whole set of great elements, made to the delight of all fans of the series, persistently put forward their speculations and wishes throughout the history of the franchise. This is really our, the audience, the movie - we made this "Saw", and that is what it causes incredible delight! This is exactly what you want to see, as it would like to see, thought out logically and executed with maximum dedication to the process and love for the viewer.
Moving on to the specifics, you can cover the shortcomings, when the plot about a series of traps pretty stretched from film to film from the third film is no longer able to please the originality of the concept, too little attention to many characters, making them cannon fodder, and not personalities that cause compassion and sympathy, are clearly not a plus for the film. The emphasis on the part of the characters is clearly shifted to the central group of long-known people, and a couple of new faces that perform the leading functions of the narrative. The main character, as befits, is an incredibly disgusting type, from beginning to end to which one does not penetrate the slightest bit of compassion, and again all those who deserve such treatment are trapped. Especially successful was the scene of the mass execution of a gang of skinheads led by Linkin Park band leader Chester Bennington. This is what should be done to all racists and Nazis, only publicly in the main squares of the cities of all adequate and civilized countries. Bravo!
Returned to the lineup, Dr. Gordon skillfully serves the Ledger Joker, but for lack of screen time, limited performance is forced to make the most of screen time. Hoffman, who has already become absolutely the best role of Mandilor, is now a real badass in the apogee of a thirst for violence, a maniac policeman, whose animal essence and thirst for murder come out so that in the film outside the traps many more people die than directly in the skillfully placed trap. Jonah-Saw can be seen only in a couple of scenes linking the main plot parts of the mosaic into a whole general picture, striking the imagination. Well, here are many beloved heroes of the previous parts, who died in a timely manner, unfortunately, in this film you will not see. Amanda, Carrie, all the other detectives of the department – given the promises about the epic finale and directly this “finality” of the story, it would be possible to add an additional 15 minutes on different flashbacks, in the end, so it is clear that the film is made exclusively for longtime fans of the series, and for them it was worth collecting a real huge puzzle, for all 7 films.
There is no sense of completeness. Yes, we were chewed so much that there were almost no questions left, but new ones were returned and left unanswered, too. Yes, there is little left of the old characters, but the number of survivors, as well as the diverse ideas of traps, always remain the reason for the development of the plot, and there are several ways to continue here. And although this brilliant and brilliant creation exceeds both expectations and skepticism, rises above the sixth, second and third parts, at least, thus coming out in the list of the best and worthy sequels, but I want more, I want more. The game was successful, but the game is not over.
