She was born on April 10, 1937 in Moscow. Since childhood, she was fond of poetry, still a schoolgirl worked as a “freelance” of the newspaper “Metrostroyevets”, and in 1955 “Komsomolskaya Pravda” published her poem called “Homeland”. Then everyone saw her talent. The literary work of the young poetess was highly appreciated even after graduation from school, at the entrance examinations at the A.M. Gorky Litin Institute. Akhmadulina was enrolled in the ranks of students.
Isabella diligently studied, was engaged in journalism, wrote essays, her poems were published in various magazines. In 1960, she graduated from the institute. Two years later, her first book, The String, was published. In the future, others came out: “Music Lessons”, “Poems”, “Candle”, “Blizzard”, “Favorites”, etc. By the end of the 70s Akhmadulina was one of the brightest poetess of the country. In 1977, she was honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. And in 1989 she was awarded the State Prize of the USSR.
Bella’s favorite theme is friendship, which is humanity’s strongest feeling. True friendship is characterized by passion, bitterness, and peace. The heroes of her work were Russian poets, friends, contemporaries and ordinary people. Also, Akhmadulina was engaged in translations of Georgian poets G. Tabidze, N. Baratashvili, S. Chikovani, wrote essays about V. Nabokov, M. Tsvetaeva, A. Akhmatova, A. Tvardovsky and other major creative persons.
Bella Akhmadulina was called “the heir to the Lermontov-Pasternak line in Russian poetry”, considered elegant her prose, written in an unusually subtle language.
On November 29, 2010, the famous poet died, she died in Peredelkino at her dacha. /
