Penn became interested in stage art at school, during the Second World War he was a fashion director from the army theaters, and after the war he entered Black Mountain College in North Carolina. In 1951, Penn was invited to work on the television program Colgate Comedy Hour, and later took the position of director in the drama series Gulf Playhouse: First Person. Throughout the 50s, Arthur Penn continued to work in television. In 1958, the director made his first film, Weapons for Left-handers. Accepted with indifference in the US, the film receives the Grand Prix of the Brussels Film Festival. His next film, The Wonderworker (1962), earned Arthur Penn an Oscar for Best Director. The stage for the director was the film “The Chase”, and the gangster ballad “Bonnie and Clyde” made Arthur Penn a new star of American and world cinema. His films such as Alice's Restaurant, Little Big Man, Missouri Bends were not left behind.
