His full name is Björn Christian Ulvaeus, born in April 1945 in Gothenburg. Already at the age of 12, together with his cousin John Ulfseter, Björn formed a musical group, trying to imitate the British group Viper Skiffle Group. In 1961, Björn joined the Mackie’s Skiffle Group, which was later renamed the West Bay Singers.
The West Bay Singers met with Polar Music producer Bengt Bernhag in 1963. After that, the group became known as Hootenanny Singers and gained popularity not only in Sweden, but also abroad. Young artists performed mainly folk music, although sometimes slipped and fundamentally different things. In 1966, Sweden heard one of Björn's first songs, "Baby Those Are The Rules", which became a hit. Nevertheless, Björn at that time was not too serious about the prospect of becoming a professional musician and periodically thought about the career of an engineer, then about the legal profession.
