Simple Red is a British soul rock band formed in 1984. The band's name "hints" to the hair color of leader Hacknel Mick. In the group: soloist Mick "Red" Hacknell (aka songwriter), bass guitarist Sean Uward, keyboardist Fritz McIntyre, guitarist Silvan Richardson. In addition, the team comes three members of the group “Durutti Column” – Chris Joyce, Tim Kellet and Tony Bowers.
Initially, "Simply Red" publicly declares itself as a group, opening up for Bobby Brown concerts in Britain. The musical style of the band is soul, blues and jazz. In 1985, after returning from tour, the musicians signed a contract with Elektra Records and recorded their debut collection Picture Book at his studio. The album contains the song "Money's Too Tight (To Mention)", which is a cover version of "Valentine Brothers" (the song hits the top 40 of Billboard). In addition, this collection also includes the composition of Hacknell himself - "Holding Back the Years", which occupied the top of the American Billboard.
Two years later, the album “Men and Women” was released, which thanks to its light positive sound even more attracts the attention of both critics and fans. Soon the band "Simply Red" goes on tour, during which he visits major cities in Europe. In 1989, the next album of the group “A New Flame” appeared, and in 1991 the group “Simply Red” recorded the most successful, according to music critics, in their work, the collection “Stars”. "Something Got Me Started", "Stars" and "For Your Babies" became the hallmark of the team.
During the 90s of the twentieth century, the group “Simply Red” released three fairly good albums: “Life” (1995), “Blue” (1998), “Love and the Russian Winter” (1999), which are well received by fans. At the beginning of the new century, in support of the last album and to collect new material, the musicians of "Simply Red" go on tour in the cities of the United States and Europe.
Since 2003, the band has released three albums: Home (2003), Simplified (2005), and after the release of Stay (2007), the band announces the beginning of a world tour, after which it ceases to exist. /
