The film illustrates the main stages of the biography of Peter the First. At first, young Peter commands one of his "funny regiments." Growing up, he studies various scientific and engineering instruments. The launch of the boot of Peter the Great (“grandfathers of the Russian fleet”) is shown. Sophia rebels against Peter, he is forced to hide in the Trinity-Sergius Lavra. There come to him loyal to him "amusing regiments", and with them he goes to Moscow and imprison Sophia in the Novodevichy monastery.
A few years pass. Peter begins the transformation of Russia and meets the resistance of the boyars. Conspiracies begin against him. He goes to the house of the conspirators and arrests them. Then he went to Holland to study shipbuilding. Returning to Russia, he built a navy and organized an army. From the first defeats in the Northern War, he comes to victory in the Battle of Poltava. In St. Petersburg, Peter arranges grand assemblies. But his health is undermined by hard work, and soon he dies. close
