The documentary Marina Isayeva "Antic Rus" tells how the centuries-old history of Russia was reflected in the life stories of Slavic cities and settlements.
The story of Russian history is not only and not so much a story about outstanding rulers, generals, scientists and writers who glorified the Russian land. “Antic Rus” refers to a little-studied period of the existence of the future Russian state – the ancient one. At this time, cities and settlements arose and developed on the lands of the ancient Slavs, which were destined to play a significant role in the subsequent history of the country. It is these white spots of the history of Russia that are discussed in the project. close

Everyone remembers the land battles of the Great Patriotic War from school, but the sea battles that the Soviet fleet conducted with the invader are practically more
Everyone remembers the land battles of the Great Patriotic War from school, but the sea battles that the Soviet fleet conducted with the invader are practically not mentioned in textbooks. To fill this gap in knowledge, director Andrey Semak, known for a number of historical documentary essays, made a five-part film about the Black Sea theater of military operations.
The Black Sea became for the Navy the place where the largest amphibious operations were conducted for the entire time of the participation of the Soviet Union in World War II. Troops on the coast captured by the enemy sometimes changed the plans of the enemy, constrained large forces and put entire divisions to flight.
Episode 1: Coastal Batteries
The construction of coastal fortifications on the Sevastopol coast was the first frontier for anyone who ever tried to capture the most important Russian city on the Black Sea – Sevastopol. A new set of batteries began to be built before World War I to install large-caliber guns. After the outbreak of World War II, after analyzing the capture of European sea fortresses by German troops, Soviet fortifiers began to develop a new plan to protect cities on the Black Sea coast.
Episode 2: Battle for Tonnage
Enemy ships have appeared in the Black Sea. And they all entered the battle for trade and strategic sea lanes with varying degrees of success. Thousands of them still lie at the bottom of the warm sea. By the time the Soviet Union came into being, Russia was practically without a merchant fleet, let alone a military one. However, by the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, there were already many new ships plying along dangerous fairways past minefields. When the German Allied fleet entered it, the battle for tonnage began. Due to the inconsistency of the actions of young pilots and white-haired captains, the Soviet fleet at the very beginning of the war lost many ships that were blown up on their own mines.
Episode 3: "Sea landings"
The role of the Marines before the war was greatly underestimated. The Marines were caught between two fires: land forces and sailors. But it was the Great Patriotic War that helped fully assess the importance of landing in operations near the coast. The place and time of birth of the Soviet marines can be considered the operation to defend Odessa in August 1941.
Episode 4: "The Cruisers"
Cruisers in the battle for the Black Sea played a significant role. The very presence of huge ships was a deterrent. To protect the straits, the Soviet command began to increase the number of large boats that could alone or as part of a small squadron to resist large enemy forces.
Episode 5: "Naval Doctors"
The heroism of medical units was not inferior to the valor of soldiers and sailors. The defense of Sevastopol in 1941-1942 was a battle not only with the enemy, but also with death. A whole army in white coats fought diseases, healed wounds, conducted operations to despite the Nazis as many people as possible survived.
In the filming took part historian Vadim Khapayev, retired Colonel Viktor Potapov, used written and video materials of witnesses and participants in the events of those years. close

Perhaps, no milestone in the Russian history of the pre-Petrine era attracts such close attention of historians and people simply interested in history more
Perhaps, no milestone in the Russian history of the pre-Petrine era attracts such close attention of historians and people simply interested in history as the eighth of September 1380. Numerous tales that invariably accompanied the facts excited the imagination of artists and writers. On that Friday, when the Russian people usually celebrate the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God, a thick morning mist hid from view the sun rising above the place where Nepryadva flows into the great river Don. This place and this day will go down in history as the Battle of Kulikovo Field. Describing the legendary events, the chronicler as if he himself sees how, standing with his army, Dmitry, Prince of Moscow, in hard thinking solves a difficult question: stay on this bank of the Don or cross the river.
Documentary film "Dmitry Donskoy". To Save the World is dedicated to one of the greatest battles of Russian history and to the man thanks to whom the Russian army defeated the Golden Horde hordes: Prince Dmitry Ivanovich, nicknamed Donskoy. And, although the Kulikovo battle did not mean getting rid of the Mongol-Tatar yoke, the victory in it was fateful for the Russian people and instilled faith in the power of Russian weapons. The defeat of Khan Mamay was a serious blow for the Golden Horde, and its further fate was already predetermined.
From Principality to State
The first who became officially called the Tsar of Russia was Ivan Vasilyevich the Terrible, for whom Prince Dmitry was a role model. The hero of the Kulikovo field associated himself with the biblical king David, and his associates called him the Russian tsar. The first among the Russian rulers Dmitry Ivanovich began to mint his own coin, which depicted King David with his legendary saying “All blowjob”. And, although it is difficult to argue with this statement, the memory of those heroic times has not been erased from the people’s memory even six hundred years after the death of Prince Dmitry. From his father, he inherited the small Moscow principality, and thirty years later left his son the Moscow state, which was greatly augmented by new territories. A politically significant event was the accession of the Grand Duchy of Vladimir, which made the process of the rise of Moscow irreversible. Having become the personification of the anti-Ordean policy, Dmitry Donskoy during his reign made it clear that the idea of the independence of Russia is closely connected with the idea of the strong power of the Moscow prince, the collector of Russian lands. close

Documentary Vitaly Maksimova "Osovets. Fortress of the Spirit is dedicated to the tragic events of the First World War for Russia – the defense of the Russian fortress, which was located on the territory of present-day Poland.
From September 1914 to July 1915, the enemy attacked the Russian positions using heavy artillery, but the fortress of Osovets did not fall. Its defenders withstood the fire of siege guns, did not raise white flags in the flames of fire, and then the enemy decided to destroy the unconquered, organizing an unprecedented chemical attack.
For ten days, the Germans patiently waited for the right direction of the wind, deploying thirty chemical batteries from several thousand cylinders, and as a result, the gas wave, which had on the front three kilometers wide and 15 meters high, dispersed to a width of eight kilometers. It's been hell.
Defenders of the fortress, who did not have gas masks, escaped as they could, trying to plug the gaps, hastily making masks and wetting them with water. The 9th, 10th and 11th companies of the Zemlyansk Regiment died entirely. There are forty people left at 12th. The militia and artillerymen were lucky to survive. The German infantry, confident that they would not meet the living, followed a wave of chlorine towards the fortress. And then the unthinkable happened: the batteries, despite the terrible human losses, opened fire. The fortress continued to fight... close

It is difficult to leave the native country in which he was born and grew up, and by his own will, no true patriot will agree to exchange his homeland for foreign lands. But what if your own life is on the second scale?
The documentary “The Great Russian Exodus” tells the story of those who were forced to leave Russia in November 1920, when the royalists, along with Crimea, lost their last hope for the revival of the tsarist regime. The remnants of Wrangel’s White Army and civilians who do not want to fall into the hands of the Bolsheviks will have to make a difficult choice: leave their homeland, evacuate or die.
In Soviet cinema, the evacuation of the White Army from Crimea was shown as a panic flight of soldiers and civilians, who were pursued by the Reds. In fact, Baron Wrangel was ready for defeat. The evacuation was planned and organized. 150 thousand people were loaded on ships, of which about 7 thousand children.
A 7-point storm sank one of the destroyers, but fortunately no one else was injured. Yet this was only one of the difficulties and dangers that awaited refugees along the way. Limited space, almost complete absence of hygiene items, etc. threatened people with various diseases, but doctors managed to prevent outbreaks of epidemics. People were starving, thirsty, quarantined for a month, but still successfully came under the protection of France.
The White Army still hoped for a resumption of the war, but in 1924 France recognized the USSR. The last hope of old Russia ceased to exist, and the ships on which evacuated troops and civilians arrived were handed over to the French. close

The Russian documentary “Noble Names of Russia” reveals the history of the five most famous noble families – Gagarin, Golitsyn, Apraksin, Yusupov and more
The Russian documentary “Noble Names of Russia” reveals the history of the five most famous noble families – Gagarin, Golitsyn, Apraksin, Yusupov and Stroganov.
Nobles were originally called free mercenaries who served boyars and princes. The first mention of nobles dates back to 1174, and they are associated with the death of the Grand Duke of Vladimir Andrei Bogolyubsky, grandson of Vladimir Monomakh and son of the founder of Moscow Yuri Dolgoruky. As you know, Bogolyubsky was killed by conspirators. According to the Ipatiev Chronicle, there were 20 conspirators, and they were headed by Pyotr Kuchkovich – one of the representatives of the powerful boyar clan Kuchkovich.
Since the XIV century, representatives of the noble estate for faithful service for the benefit of their patrons began to award estates, which they, however, could not pass on by inheritance, unlike the boyars. The influence of the nobles grew more and more with each century and as a result they became the most powerful stratum of Russian society and the main reliable and support of the tsars.
Details on each
The video material “Noble Names of Russia” includes five films, in each of which the viewer is introduced to one of the above-mentioned noble families.
• After watching the first film, you will learn about the history of the Gagarin family. His ancestor is Mikhail Golibesovsky (Gagara), who belonged to the princely house of the Starodubskys.
• The history of the Golitsyn family begins in the XV century with Mikhail Ivanovich Bulgakov-Golitsa, a representative of the House of Gediminovich - the ruling dynasty of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
• The next name is Apraksins. This genus came from Andrei Ivanovich, nicknamed Opraks, the great-grandson of Salkhomir-Murza. Representatives of this family were called Opraxins, later - Apraxins. They served the Ryazan princes, but under Ivan III (son of Vasily the Dark) they went to the service of the Grand Duke of Moscow.
• Now the extinguished family of Yusupov came from Yusuf-Murza, the son of Musa-Murza, who was a descendant of Yedigei Mangit - Nogai Khan, who was in the service of Tamerlane.
The Stroganovs are a family of merchants and industrialists, which originates from a certain Spiridon, a Novgorod citizen who lived under Dmitry Donskoy. There is an opinion that the ancestor of this surname was a Tatar who converted to Christianity and took the name Spyridon at baptism. However, historians consider this opinion to be nothing more than a fiction, a fairy tale, since there is simply no evidence for this theory. close
