SALT is the story of award winning and internationally renowned photographer, Murray Fredericks on his annual solo pilgrimage to the heart of Lake Eyre more
SALT is the story of award winning and internationally renowned photographer, Murray Fredericks on his annual solo pilgrimage to the heart of Lake Eyre in the remote north corner of South Australia. It is a piece on the personal journey of the artist, the creative process and the landscape itself. Alone on the most featureless landscape on earth, Murray's personal video diary captures the beauty of this bleak, empty and desolate environment - and provides the catalyst for an unexpected personal transformation. Told with subtlety, care and gentle dry humor, SALT is the story of what emanates from emptiness. By combining the breathtaking imagery of this surreal landscape with the hauntingly delicate sounds of Aajinta's "Harmonic Sphere's, it attempts to identify what lies beneath the surface of our reality and how 'something' can be produced from 'nothing'. SALT interweaves Murray's sublime pictures... close

As he did with his critically-acclaimed "Blockade," a documentary re-creation of the WWII siege of Leningrad, which received its NY theatrical premiere in March 2007, filmmaker Sergei Loznitsa has once again scoured the Russian film archives for "Revue," selecting excerpts from newsreels, propaganda films, TV shows and feature films that present an evocative portrait of Soviet life during the 1950s and 1960s. With scenes taken from the length and breadth of the “Soviet Motherland,” "Revue" illustrates industry and agriculture, political life, popular culture, and technology. Inside: LSD (Inside: LSD) deals with a complex and highly controversial topic – the use of the psychotropic substance LSD, once outlawed.
LSD does have a mixed reputation. Some consider it a means to help “expand consciousness”, a drug with healing properties. With its help, they offer to treat schizophrenia, alcoholism, migraines, epilepsy. Known confessions of world-famous people, scientists, musicians, testifying to the positive effect of taking LSD on their consciousness. Among them are Nobel laureates Francis Crick (1962), who claimed to have discovered the molecular structure of DNA under the influence of LSD, and Kerry Mullis (1993), who believes that the discovery for which he received the award - the visualization of the polymerase chain reaction - helped him to commit LSD; Apple founder Steve Jobs, Microsoft founder Bill Gates also did not ignore the drug. The Beatles were indirectly suspected of using LSD, with the title of the song “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” capitalized as LSD. The musicians themselves denied any parallels.
On the other hand, barricades are many opponents of the use of this hallucinogen, which causes a number of undesirable effects. Among the most dangerous mental manifestations caused by taking LSD - loss of control over their actions, excitement, confused, panic consciousness, the possibility of developing paranoia. The consequences of taking LSD are also terrible – in addition to giving birth to children with various hereditary diseases and chromosomal disorders, a person who takes LSD can go crazy and commit suicide.
All these and many factors served at one time, in the 60s of the 20th century, the reason that LSD was banned and declared a drug.
But now, in our days, scientists are again returning to the question of the use of LSD, its far from revealed medical potential. What is LSD – a drug or a breakthrough in science? The authors of The Inside Look: LSD are trying to answer this and other equally important questions. close

Most rock fans may not know the name Anton Corbijn, but they've certainly seen his work. Corbijn shot the iconic cover artwork for U2's The Joshua Tree and Depeche Mode's 101, and gave both groups a new and more dramatic visual persona in the process. Since them, Corbijn's work, bearing his trademark dark shadows and deep, textural details, has graced the covers of recordings by R.E.M., Bruce Springsteen, Morrissey, Nick Cave, John Lee Hooker and even Bon Jovi. Corbijn has also directed a number of music videos for the likes of Nirvana, Johnny Cash and Metallica, and made his debut as a feature film director in 2007 with Control, a screen biography of Ian Curtis of Joy Division (who Corbijn photographed several times in the group's heyday). In Shadow Play: The Making of Anton Corbijn, filmmaker Josh Whiteman offers an intimate look at the life and career of this celebrated visual artist, featuring interviews with Bono, Chris Martin, Michael Stipe, Dave Gahan and Bernard Sumner. close
