The story of a Japanese diplomat, sometimes called the Schindler of Japan, and his life lading up to and after his decision to issue over 2,000 visas to Jewish refugees in Kaunas, Lithuania resulting in saving the lives of over 6,000 people. This is the story of a man who believed in doing all he could do for the benefit of his beloved Japan, including trying to keep her from becoming embroiled in a worldwide conflict he saw as inevitable. Along the way, he came face to face with the plight of the European Jews as they tried to escape the onslaught of the Nazi's and the rapidly advancing German army. Picture by National Geographic. The Da Vinci Code Uncovered is a tale of secret societies, amazing revelations and chilling conspiracies. The film is based on Dan Brown’s famous novel The Da Vinci Code.
Ever since the book was published, readers have wondered whether this story really has a true background. Did Mary Mandalene and Jesus Christ marry, live happily ever after, and have children? Is it true that the code that protects the “kind of Christ” is actually hidden in the paintings of the great Leonardo da Vinci? The filmmakers, if possible, objectively tried to tell the viewer about the available facts, as well as unobtrusively express their individual point of view. close

The life and work of Robert Frank—as a photographer and a filmmaker—are so intertwined that they're one in the same, and the vast amount of territory more
The life and work of Robert Frank—as a photographer and a filmmaker—are so intertwined that they're one in the same, and the vast amount of territory he's covered, from The Americans in 1958 up to the present, is intimately registered in his now-formidable body of artistic gestures. From the early '90s on, Frank has been making his films and videos with the brilliant editor Laura Israel, who has helped him to keep things homemade and preserve the illuminating spark of first contact between camera and people/places. Don't Blink is Israel's like-minded portrait of her friend and collaborator, a lively rummage sale of images and sounds and recollected passages and unfathomable losses and friendships that leaves us a fast and fleeting imprint of the life of the Swiss-born man who reinvented himself the American way, and is still standing on ground of his own making at the age of 90. close

It is the end of World War I and the young Italian soldiers are making their way back to San Giovanni Rotondo, a land of poverty, with a tradition of violence and submission to the iron-clad rule of the church and its wealthy landowners. Families are desperate, the men are broken, albeit victorious. Padre Pio also arrives, at a remote Capuchin monastery, to begin his ministry, evoking an aura of charisma, saintliness and epic visions of Jesus, Mary and the Devil himself. The eve of the first free elections in Italy sets the stage for a massacre with a metaphorical dimension: an apocalyptic event that changes the course of history. close

The film details the history of Poland and Europe from 1518 to 1557. On the Polish throne are the last kings of the Jagiellon dynasty. In 1518, the princess of the Italian Duchy of Bari Bona Sforza of Aragon (1494-1557) solemnly entered Krakow to become the wife of the Polish King Sigismund I (1467-1548). An energetic and ambitious Italian woman begins to rebuild the political and economic life of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (Poland and Lithuania), feeling hidden or obvious resistance from Polish and Lithuanian politicians (tycoons, clergy, nobility) and even her husband-king. But Queen Bona has supporters (and even admirers): Marshal Kmit, Chancellor Alifio. Poland periodically enters into military conflicts with Muscovy, Turks and Tatars, leads a Thirteen-year war with the Teutonic Order for Gdansk and Pomorie, is in a state of confrontation with the German Habsburg dynasty, whose representatives rule in Spain, Austria, Prussia and are trying to seize the Italian dowry of the Polish queen. Bona's goal is to fight the Habsburgs, who intend to expel the Sforza family from Milan and Naples and are the Jagiellons' main rivals in Central Europe.
Bona dreams of giving birth to an heir to strengthen the Jagiellon dynasty. Finally the son Sigismund II Augustus (1520-1572) was born. At the age of 9, the boy became Grand Duke of Lithuania, and a year later - King of Poland. Later, in pursuit of their political goals, the Habsburgs impose a young Polish king of brides from Vienna. King Sigismund I the Old, and then Bona, fearing a secret conspiracy of neighboring states, are forced to make concessions, urging his son to agree to these marriages. After the first unsuccessful marriage, Sigismund II August leaves for Lithuania and meets the beautiful Barbara Radziwill. The stormy and dramatic romance of “Polish Romeo and Juliet” – August and Barbara – begins, which leads to their secret marriage. Sigismund Augustus demands from the Sejm (parliament) to recognize his marriage to Barbara and seeks her coronation to the Polish throne. Insulted Bona, dissatisfied with the fact that her subject becomes the queen (“Litvinka”, “girl”), leaves for Masovia (Warsaw), and then, after the third marriage of her son, to Italy (in Bari). But she still has plans to return to Poland, to Krakow, to the royal castle on Wawel. .

Over the course of a year, film follows Vancouver Pride Society president Ken Coolen to various international Pride events, including Poland, Hungary, Russia, Sri Lanka and others where there is great opposition to pride parades. In North America, Pride is complicated by commercialization and a sense that the festivals are turning away from their political roots toward tourism, party promotion and entertainment. Christie documents the ways larger, more mainstream Pride events have supported the global Pride movement and how human rights components are being added to more established events. In the New York sequence, leaders organize an alternative Pride parade, the Drag March, set up to protest the corporatization of New York Pride. A parade in São Paulo, the world's largest Pride festival, itself includes a completely empty float, meant to symbolize all those lost to HIV and to anti-gay violence. close
