In southern France, despite the repression, the Protestant Highlander peasants renounced the “papal truth.” In 17 years, the situation has escalated. The king refused to make concessions. The center of the uprising (1702-1705) was the Sevenna mountain range on the right bank of the Rhône, in the province of Languedoc.
