feature-length animated band on the themes of Jan Werich's book. A funny and instructive narrative about fairy-tale and everyday things, about the dwarves, the miracles, but also about the very ordinary human weaknesses and cleverness. The Art Concept of Puppet Stories accurately depicts the humor and atmosphere of the fairy tales "Fimfarum", "The Fall of the Oak", "Franta Nebojsa", "The Dream of the Dream" and "Lakomá Barka", written by Jan Werich on a gramophone record in the 1960s under the title Fimfarum. close

Refugees from the Caucasian republics, Armenians, Azerbaijanis and Russians, meet on the shore of the Black Sea: they work as shop keepers, life guards, karaoke singers, or just enjoy their holidays. It all happens at a place called Broadway, which is no-where to be found on a map, not even the most detailed ones. The temporary inhabitants of Broadway construct a whole world en miniature, consisting of small carts, tents or booths parked in close, haphazard rows. The scenery, which is put up for a few weeks during the summer, bubbles with life – and in no way corresponds with ordinary daily life in Russia. close

The main prize of the III Children's International Festival "Kinotavrik" in Sochi (2003) A young guy Joko escapes from prison. On the way, he steals a car, in the back seat of which he finds a little Kiku. The girl is scared, but gradually her fear of Joko is replaced by fear for the fugitive. Kika becomes an "accomplice" to the escape. Meanwhile, Joko and Kika are wanted. Time works against them. Joko is trying to get money so they can go somewhere. . The plot of this film is built on the parallel fates of two young people who strive for the best. The main characters - a young car thief and an eleven-year-old schoolgirl - simultaneously escape from their places of detention: he is from prison, she is from school. Soon fate brings them together in a car stolen by a young criminal from the father of a fugitive. A girl who does not expect anything good either at home or at school decides to become an ally of her kidnapper. Their criminal journeys through the spaces of modern Slovakia lead, as it should be in a real road movie, only to death. In the last frame, the guy shot by police still emerges from the muddy Danube waters. And although this finale is merely a hallucination of a traumatized childhood fantasy, it leaves hope for a free life beyond social precepts. close

The film is based on the true story of two young men arrested and imprisoned in Asia for attempting to smuggle heroin and other potent drugs. In a somewhat fictitious version, the fate of each of the two heroes - Patrick Lovitzky and his half-brother Tomasz Egermaier - is traced, who hoped that they would be able to earn "bad money" by smuggling drugs from Thailand. Patrick was detained at the Bangkok airport with four kilograms of heroin and ended up in Bonwong prison, and Tomasz managed to escape to Prague, where he tries to recover all the details of the incident using a recorded videotape. close

A gripping documentary about the courage and determination of a young English stockbroker who saved the lives of 669 children. Between March 13 and August 2, 1939, Nicholas Winton organized 8 transports to take children from Prague to new homes in Great Britain, and kept quiet about it until his wife discovered a scrapbook documenting his unique mission in 1988. Winton was a successful 29-year-old stockbroker in London who "had an intuition" about the fate of the Jews when he visited Prague in 1939. He quietly but decisively got down to the business of saving lives. We learn how only two countries, Sweden and Britain, answered his call to harbor the young refugees; how documents had to be forged and how once foster parents signed for the children on delivery, that was the last he saw of them. close

This simple story is the feature debut for well-known Slovak theater and television director Juraj Nvota. Set in a Slovak village at the turn of the last century, the story teems with passion, and repressed and hidden emotion. It delves into the search for identity, investigating both love and hatred, while dramatizing the tragic relationship between an adolescent girl (Tatiana Pauhofová) and her ambitious father (Ondrej Vetchý). Set against the striking though simple backdrop of a picturesque, even idyllic, landscape - one ostensibly cut off from any important historical, political, or social context whatsoever - the arrival of an unwanted individual evokes the onset of a cruel drama. close

As the name suggests, the movie is about football. It is not about big league soccer, making huge money. It is about football, which lives just from village fans enthusiasm, from the enthusiasm of fathers and their sons and club officials. And yet on this battlefield, where the pub and silent household alternates, it is often about everything: friends, family, the meaning of life. It is about playing fair, but also about fighting below the belt. It is about winning, but also about falling into the abyss of the league wilderness. close
