Idomeneus, King of Crete, one of the great heroes during the total destruction of the famous city of Troy was sailing back to his realm when a terrible storm broke loose near the city of Sidon. The storm was of such violence that in his fear Idomeneus made a solemn promise to Neptune, God of the Seas, to sacrifice the first person -no matter who it be- that he would meet on the shore if he and his people would only get there safely. close

This film by the wonderful director Yuri Aldokhin is built as a story by Fyodor Lopukhov, a legendary figure who connected the pre- and post-revolutionary ballet of Russia. Working with Anna Pavlova and Mikhail Fokin, Lopukhov staged ballets for Marina Semenova and took Galina Ulanova to the theater. It is Lopukhov that we owe the appearance of such choreographers as Leonid Yakobson and Yuri Grigorovich.
The film includes unique film materials, a chronicle of the brilliant Paris tour of 1972 - the golden age of the Bolshoi Theatre. close
