The town of Zinkov, where in the 1930-1950s people of different nationalities and confessions lived in peace and harmony, is actually a paradise that was not on the map of the former USSR: mysteriously, it simply “falled out” of the field of view of the totalitarian system. It calmly and naturally coexisted Orthodox Church, Jewish synagogue, church and heritage of Islam - the old Turkish fortress. In Zinkov lives the main character of the picture, Motl-Shotchen, matchmaker “from God”: as a real mediator between people and worlds, he goes from village to village, from house to house, “creating love”, creating harmony of human destinies. Motle believes in life with all his heart and serves it.
But now, the system inevitably breaks into Zinkov, torn from the world, and with it the war. The idyllic life of the town collapsed, and with it the life of Motl, who lost his loved ones.
