In May 1945, important documents were discovered in Hitler’s bunker at Wilhelmstrasse-77, which helped uncover many secrets of the Second World War. Among the finds was the folder “The search list for the USSR”. Later, these documents were stored in the Federal Archives of Germany and were even published in a special limited edition. The list contained extensive data on people who were primarily targeted for physical destruction. This is how Adolf Hitler preferred to fight his enemies. At the beginning of the war, the Fuehrer made no secret of this. He named his enemies openly and publicly. close

Tsarskoye Selo and Yalta occupied a special place among the most important royal residences. The series is dedicated to the favorite places of stay of the last five Russian emperors. In 1792, Catherine II gave her beloved grandson Alexander I a summer palace in Tsarskoye Selo. There he spends the best years of his life, the residence blooms unusually during his reign: new architectural ensembles, a zoo and greenhouses are erected, the Imperial Tsarskoye Selo Lyceum is established. The royal village takes on a look that still amazes with its beauty. And Alexander’s children and grandchildren chose the charming corner of the southern coast of the Crimea, located only 3 kilometers from Yalta and washed by the gentle sea surf – his name is Livadia “Livadia is so sweet to my heart” – Nicholas II liked to repeat. The residence where the last emperors of Russia loved to spend time. Films from the series tell about the transformations that occurred in the Crimea in connection with the stay of the royal family on the peninsula.

A series of German princesses who became Russian Empresses.
“We wanted to show how these women, who lived most of their lives in a foreign country, felt,” says Inna Soboleva, the film’s scriptwriter. They were raised in completely different conditions. Our series is about how they, all by chance in Russia, became (or did not become) Russian in spirit. I am convinced that they did not just share the fate of a Russian woman, and not the happiest, because none of them ever succeeded in the role of a beloved woman. A terrible, purely Russian fate. How they accepted it, how most of them became truly Russian, that’s the theme of the film. close

The creators of the program turn to the events of 180 years ago in order to destroy the standard ideas about the goals and causes of the Decembrist uprising. An attempt was made to take a new look at the tragic events in the history of Russia during the interregnum.
Narrators - writer, historian Yakov Arkadyevich Gordin and People's Artist of Russia Andrei Yurievich Tolubeev - build their narrative as a chronicle of events. Filming of the program took place on the streets and squares of St. Petersburg and Warsaw, in the Winter and Anichkov Palaces, in the Senate building, Laval’s mansion in St. Petersburg, in the Belvedere Palace in Warsaw. Documents, eyewitness memoirs, diaries of participants were used.
Transmission 1. At the end of November 1825, Grand Duke Nikolai Pavlovich receives news of the death of his brother, Emperor Alexander I. According to his will, it is Nicholas who should inherit the throne, but the guards generals led by the Governor-General of St. Petersburg Mikhail Andreevich Miloradovich decide to dispose of the throne at their discretion. They know that in the event of the accession of Tsarevich Constantine, their position in society will remain, and if Nicholas comes to power, he will bring his trusted people closer to him. Generals predict a guards revolt if Nicholas publishes the will of Alexander I. Members of the secret society, having learned that Nicholas and the guards had sworn allegiance to Constantine, decided to temporarily cease their activities.
Transmission 2. November 27 - December 9. Things were different in Warsaw. Constantine swore an oath to Nikolai Pavlovich, and the interregnum came in the country. Correspondence began between Warsaw, where Constantine was, and St. Petersburg. Nicholas asked his brother to accept the throne, the generals wanted the same, Constantine was afraid of the guards. He remembered his father being strangled and did not want to repeat his fate. The situation became increasingly tense. The future Decembrists, having learned of Constantine’s abdication, decided to act.
Transmission 3. On December 12, at the apartment of Kondraty Fedorovich Ryleev, members of a secret society develop a plan for a speech. It is headed by two new members - Alexander Yakubovich and Alexander Bulatov. At this time, Grand Duke Nikolai Pavlovich receives a message about the conspiracy. He summons Miloradovic and instructs him to arrest the conspirators, but Miloradovic does not act. On December 14, the Guard will swear allegiance to Tsar Nikolai Pavlovich.
Broadcast 4. Evening December 13, morning December 14. Lieutenant Rostovtsev, a member of a secret society, comes to Nikolai Pavlovich and talks about a possible speech. About his visit to the Grand Duke he informs Ryleev. It becomes clear to the rebels that there is nowhere to retreat. They say there can be no subjunctive inclination in history. But the authors of the television program “Alternative History”. What could Russia be like? deliberately follow the path of speculation and ask the question: “What if...?” . ?
What if Peter built his new capital not on the Baltic, but on the Black Sea? What would have happened if Paul I had not been killed in a conspiracy but had survived? What would the history of Russia have been like if the 1917 revolution had not happened? And if after death Stalin Beria would come to power in the country, not Khrushchev? These questions are not just divination on coffee grounds. All assumptions made in the television program "Alternative History". What could Russia be like? is based on a detailed study of relevant issues by professional historians.
An alternative history of Russia in the TV project is presented as an opportunity not only to better learn the history of their own country during its turning points. This is also an opportunity to show imagination and see an alternative world in which we could live. It’s as if the history of our country is confronted with the “butterfly effect” – when the smallest changes, seemingly from the point of view of the present, have a stunning effect in the future. close
