There was a time when cinema was understood by everyone in every corner of the world. It was the time of silent cinema, when the actors spoke their gestures, looks and inscriptions on the screen. But at the end of the 20s of the last century, a miracle happened – the Great Nemoy spoke! From now on, it became clear that films in foreign languages will not be easy to understand in countries that do not know this language.
Even then, the question became urgent: how to make a foreign film could be shown in any country, and everyone around it understood everything? In the Soviet Union, the answer to this question was the first film dubbed into Russian: in 1935, a foreign film was dubbed at the Research Film Photography Institute under the direction of director Mark Donskoy for the first time - a fantastic thriller from Universal studio under the significant title "Invisible Man". Significant, because the actors whose voices the characters spoke on the screen were also “invisible people” who almost no one knew in person.
The first actor of dubbing in the USSR was Alexei Konsovsky. These days, there are many such actors, they are among us, literally every day we watch movies, cartoons and TV series, whose characters speak in the voices of dubbing actors. But what do we know about the people who gave their voice to the actors we love? The program “Legends of Dubbing” corrects a great injustice and introduces viewers to those who are used to being an “invisible actor”. Who are these people? What do they look like? What do they do? What do they dream, what do they love? About this and, most importantly, about their work, they tell in the program “Legends of dubbing”. close

In May 1943, Lieutenant of State Security Nikolai Kovalchuk received a task from the head of the UKR SMERSH, Major-General Polunochenko, to check the usual school watchman Veniamin Shubnik, who for some reason is interested in German intelligence.
During the investigation conducted by the hero of the film “Death to Spies!” Operation Shock Wave, it turns out that Shubnikov previously worked as a nuclear physicist at the Ukrainian Institute of Physics and Technology. In 1939 he was arrested on charges of sabotage. During the transfer to the camp, Shubin and another physicist on the same case, German Georg Houtermans, escaped.
According to intelligence channels, the Germans, fearing an imminent offensive by Soviet troops, intend to dismantle the uranium boiler located in the Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology and take it to Germany. To prevent this, Soviet intelligence is developing a secret operation.
Kovalchuk appeals to Polunochenko with a proposal to use Shubnikov to infiltrate the institute. It is necessary that the Germans transport the scientist across the front line, in which case SMERSH can control access to the reactor. Instead of Shubnikov, it is planned to send an employee of SMERSH. But personal antipathy and distrust of the enemy of the people greatly hampers preparation.
And at the same time in Kharkov to dismantle the uranium boiler, comes agreed to cooperate with the Germans Georg Houtermans. The danger that a nuclear reactor will fall into the hands of the enemy is increasing every day, and, therefore, it is no longer possible to delay the planned operation.

TV channel NTV and the company “Central Partnership” present to viewers a new multi-part film “Indicted”, which is based on the scandal associated with the death in the UK of Alexander Litvinenko, a former employee of Russian special services. Invaluable help in creating the script was provided by Andrei Lugovoy, a direct participant in the spy scandal and until 2012 was considered by the British side the main suspect. But do not assume that this film is a documentary, State Duma deputy Lugovoi refused to comment on the London events, the screenwriters presented their vision of the story on the basis of numerous publications in the press.
The series "Indicted": all in the name of honor
The film takes place in Moscow in the early 2000s. We are witnessing almost 10 years of life of the main characters, officers of the State Security Committee A. Voronov (Igor Petrenko) and A. Volkov (Kirill Pletnev). Andrei Voronov is charged with kidnapping a witness in a criminal case. To save his reputation and clear his name, Andrew must fight for his life. He asks for the help of a man whose fate brought him to the distant dashing 90s.
The film involves characters related to the London events and played important roles in the economic and political life of Russia: Boris Berezovsky and Badri Patarkatsishvili. While working on the film, the film crew created the atmosphere of those years as much as possible, serious makeup was used, painstaking selection of costumes and props was carried out, unique scenery was created. The performers studied not only publications in the media, but also materials from the KGB archives to fully reveal the images. Of course, it is worth once again paying attention to the cast of the series, in addition to the actors mentioned, Evgeny Knyazev, Sergey Gazarov, Sergey Burunov, Nikolai Dobrynin, Levan Mskhiladze were involved in the shooting.
Secrets are fascinating
Of course, the film “Indicted” will not go unnoticed on television. Here will be presented and Chekist biography, and special services with their specific cadres, and conspiracy to seize power, and tea ceremonies in London. Everything will be mysterious and exciting at the same time. close

Tyazhely Pesok / Heavy Sand follows an Ukrainian Jewish family over 30 years against the backdrop of dramatic events in the Soviet Union in the first more
Tyazhely Pesok / Heavy Sand follows an Ukrainian Jewish family over 30 years against the backdrop of dramatic events in the Soviet Union in the first half of the 20th century: WWI, the Bolshevik revolution, the pogroms in Ukraine, the Stalinist repression, WWII and Nazi occupation, the ghetto and annihilation.
It is ultimately a story about human nature, about the triumph of love against all odds (e.g. despite the seemingly incompatible backgrounds of the two lovers, Rakhil and Jakov) and of its resilience over time and circumstance. It is about family bonds, about human altruism, dignity and courage. Also about cruelty and the holocaust, a tribute to the Jews that suffered and to the non-Jews who were willing to risk their own lives to help them.
The acting is generally outstanding, as is the filming and the music. Attention to historical detail is exquisite (clothes, decors, culture…).
The script departs substantially from Rybakov's novel, on which the film is based, bringing in some different characters and scenes. I guess this was partly unavoidable, because of the novel's narrative approach, compared to the need for dialogues in the film, which had to be made up.
The series is, in my opinion, not without flaws. It combines some truly moving scenes with others that left me wondering what the point was, and thinking that 16 episodes were not needed after all. Although the characters' complexity rings true, some of the scenes seem implausible. Plus the 2 main characters hardly age throughout the film, everybody speaks Russian everywhere… While the film captures much of the spirit of the book, it is weaker in many respects, including in its portrayal of Jewish suffering. Needless to say, I preferred the book, but this is almost always so. Provided you are not looking for 100% accurate history, nor 100% Rybakov's novel you may, like me, be left with a very positive overall impression.
