Harmful tips Zombie Movie Edition Every self-respecting director who took up the theme of zombies should know the classics of the genre. In particular, Zombie 2 should be watched so as not to repeat the mistakes of others. There are so many stupidities and clichés in this movie that they almost level all the possible advantages of the tape.
Which characters would be best sent to an island where a local apocalypse is taking place? Of course, a brisk reporter, a fragile girl, a mad doctor and a couple of random people! Characters are typical. It will not change in the course of events. And sometimes it seems that the guys act purely by inertia. A mad doctor suddenly cares about his wife (whom he didn’t care about half the movie at all). "And you guys go see how she's doing there" - "Okay, no bazaar," sat down and went. Where's the drama? Where's the emotion? Where's the motive? It's unclear. And from the shock of the characters somehow painfully quickly depart. A couple of scenes - and it's like nothing happened. No sympathy for the heroes in such a scenario can not go. And even spectacular, vile (in a good way) make-up zombies do not save the situation. They look ugly and frightening, if only...
If only a dead man who had been in a grave for three hundred years (sic) did not look exactly like a native who had just died in a hospital. I believe when I see clumsy, staggering, yet powerful zombies. But when almost unharmed bodies of Spanish conquistadors rise from the ground, barely touched by worms, and even so that they have a brain during this time - it is simply ridiculous!
However, the brain, apparently, is not so important for zombies Fulci. For some fall and do not rise even from shots in the chest, despite the fact that in the film it is repeatedly and unequivocally shown that you can destroy the walking dead only by shooting a bullet in the head. That's the logic lost.
Just as ridiculous is the scene where a zombie attacks a shark. Firstly, because it is not clear what scare the devourer of human flesh to attack the fish, and secondly, because this moment does not affect the plot in any way and is needed solely to show naked young curly.
Although sexploitation itself is a questionable technique, now worthy of only postmodern parodies, so in this film it also begins in the most inappropriate situations and the most illiterate.
However, I have to give Fulci credit for a couple of really impressive moments. The pinch piercing the eye is already as iconic as the lawnmower massacre in Jackson’s Braindead. A less shocking but vivid episode where several zombies devour a dead girl.
But watching the movie still makes sense. Scenario holes, violation of logic, empty characters, but cute makeup and generally boring plot and blood do "Zombie 2" good by the standards of 1979 action and the perfect guide to how not to make a zombie movie.
