Best of all, Max will tell the world where monsters live. Their relationship will tell about how things are in the family of Max, their characters will tell about the household of Max. His fantasy creates strange, sometimes sad, sometimes irresistibly cheerful creatures, and it also gives them the qualities of the boy himself - aggression, for example. In addition to a set of positive qualities, Max has a couple of negative ones - in outbursts of rage, he destroys his sister's room, hoping to attract attention, is rude and finally runs away from home. An ordinary boy, what can you say here, but the world beyond the sea teaches him every feeling to comprehend. He sees from the outside the fury with which one of the creatures destroys houses, sees the melancholy that embraces the forest tribe, sees quarrels and reconciliation. And understands that the most important thing is the ability to forgive and overstep yourself, sees the example of a creature with whom he quarreled and barely had time to say goodbye.
“Where the monsters live” is about trust. This film is not so childish: you can see the usual fairy tale in it, and you can draw parallels with the real world, see the character of the boy, and then the warm and cozy story will turn into a leisurely drama, the finale of which is not too optimistic.
And yet “Where the Monsters Live” is an infinitely kind film, half of which the viewer spends with a smile on his face. Magnificent are the “monsters”, who turned out to be not so terrible, the actor playing Max is magnificent. And finally, the soundtrack created by Karen O, which spares me the need to write about how delightful these tunes are. They create a special mood for the Monsters, which mixes unspoken sadness, memories and dreams that are not destined to come true.
Or maybe it will.
