An existential American movie. The picture is that in the system of relations that is built in American society, you can not achieve success by remaining yourself. And more broadly, the search for oneself will lead a person to conflict with his environment. Trying to save yourself will result in losses. Thinking, asking questions and expressing genuine feelings is dangerous. And the simplest questions can have the most unpleasant consequences. Is that where this pair of shoes came from? The wife of one of the heroes knows exactly the answer: of course, they are from the closet. No, they're from Indonesia. Made by poor children. But it is better not to think about it, or the wife will leave and take the child with her. But not thinking is consciously giving up a part of yourself. Thinking and feeling is dangerous. Existential detectives warn that it may be better not to get involved in the search for answers. Looks great hero Jude Law, who falls into a trap, feigning the search for himself, which he does not need and is completely contraindicated.
Judging by the script, the filmmakers tried to simplify the movie as much as possible so as not to scare off viewers. Because of this, the script came out somewhat tortured. But the film is generally decent and somewhat tragic, despite the humor.
