Serious dramatic crime-thriller starring Michael Caine as "Harry Brown", directed by Daniel Barber, 2009. There's a retired old man who seems harmless. Once he lost his daughter, and now the love of his life, his wife, is dying. He is left alone, although he has an old friend, with whom they meet regularly in the pub, drinking and playing chess. He knows that his friend is bullied by teenagers (I must say that in England it is often written in the newspapers about how teenagers literally bully people, especially old people) and one day he admits that he carries a bayonet with him, because he is madly afraid. I will not tell you further, but the film is serious, how serious the problem itself is raised, a little resonates with Gran Torino, but the characters are very different in nature. Michael Kane, as always, plays great, the rest of us could have played better if the script had given them the chance, but it’s still worth watching. I don’t think, as some people think, that they are contrasting generations here, they just want to show the current state of society, and one of its negative manifestations is disrespect for people in general, not only for old people, no matter what, remember how he watches from the window the conflict between these scumbags and a guy with a girl who wanted to go through the underground passage. He just, as they say, has nothing to lose, so he decides to take revenge, he is not a positive hero - neither in his youth, when he killed the Irish, nor now, when he produces "sanitation" of the area. I even thought that he didn’t go out to buy a gun to get revenge – he was provoked to kill by these dealers, from whom he wanted to buy it, and then he decided to find and punish the killers of his friend. Well, let’s not exaggerate, none of us imagines a positive hero as a kind of superman, who already has itches under his shoulder blades from sprouting wings. By the way, for a long time, out of a sense of self-preservation, he passed by this problem, perhaps if he had done something earlier, his friend would have survived.
