The film is the wildest cranberry about Russia and the USSR, which the Americans shot at all. At the same time, it is interesting that they did not try to insult us, that the question of interaction between our nations was posed not with hostility or sharpness, but with a strange friendly flirtation. Nobody here calls Russia bad in general, the film directly says that we have the mafia, and they have it, and we need to fight it together. In fact, the film can be seen as a cultural phenomenon and a sure attempt by the West to reach out. This was done with the pluses, because this is an attempt, not a successful work. Our viewers, even after decades, treat the film as a whole well, quote "cocainum" and "hoolicani", but this is not the level of acceptance that happens to something worthy, serious. This is the adoption of a fool fool who makes everyone laugh, even though it does not set such a goal. The decision of the studio on how to put Russian in the film was absolutely wrong. This is a disaster. They literally forced people to say Russian phrases who do not know a word of Russian. Listening to their "Fznamzon cloud" is absolutely unbearable. Our viewers do not understand what they are saying. It needed a normal dubbing, and preferably not only for ours, but for the original. The entire film crew was literally disgraced in front of everyone who has an idea of the Russian language. They made history with that. The situation is similar with the image of the mysterious Russian life, which is shown on a completely surreal level. Firefighters drown with coal a huge bath, similar to ancient Greek baths, in which men and women bathe simultaneously, and right in the bath there is a rocker. And Schwartz there is given to hold in his hand a red-hot stone as a rite of initiation caster. This nonsense is just impossible. This scene was invented by a man who knew absolutely nothing about Russia and put fantastic conjectures and clichés about different cultures and epochs in his head. Many writers do the same, which is probably the worst thing a writer can do. Then they show the Kremlin to some unreal song in an unreal language. Every time the Russian part of the film begins. You can't do that. The author must understand what he is writing about, he must ask knowledgeable people, read articles or finally hire a consultant. There is nothing to say about the plot, it is purely nominal here. Good and bad try to kill each other, run, fight, shoot. I didn’t notice any development in the film, it consists of a set of scenes, and I have a suspicion that if they were rearranged, nothing would have changed much. Except for the hero and villain, there is no interesting character, no one plays a noticeable role, they all appear for a maximum of 5 minutes and disappear from the action. Even the partner of the hero does not decide anything in this film and performs a purely cosmetic role. All described would easily be enough for 1 point, but I put the average rating simply for the stupid charm of this wild cranberry, for Schwartz, for nostalgia and for the unexpected in its own way friendly attitude of the West to us.
