Walter Hill was born on January 10, 1942 in Long Beach, California, USA. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in American History. Walter Hill began his career as a screenwriter, making his debut in the 1972 film Hickey & Boggs. His first directorial work was the thriller Hard Times (1975), which took place during the Great Depression in the United States. He cemented Walter Hill’s reputation as one of the most promising action writers and directors. The circle of his creative interests includes a variety of genres: fiction (scripts for the three parts of Aliens), action movie (48 hours, 1982, Other 48 hours, 1990, Red Heat, 1988), westerns (Geronymo: American legend (1993)). Several stand out from the general series of films Pretty Johnny (1989) and the cult Crossroads (1986). Walter Hill is also known as a producer - on this path he made his debut with the film "Alien" (1979); his last work in the production field - the acclaimed "Alien: Resurrection" (1997) and the story-based "Bodyguard" Akira Kurosawa thriller "Lonely" (1996). Despite the considerable success of many of his paintings, Walter Hill did not receive the title of more than a “talented artisan” among critics, which, however, did not prevent him from becoming one of the recognized classics of the action genre.
