In general, this film belongs to the genre of noir. It's not just a black and white movie. It is impregnated with a black atmosphere of noir, people are constantly darkened, or even show them in shadows to highlight the gloom of the city of those years. All the frames of the genre are fully respected. Although noir was not yet popular at the time, and it was kind of an experiment to make a crime drama, but fortunately it succeeded.
In this film generally reliably shows the America of the 30s. Everyone kills each other, the police sluggishly follow the trail of gangsters. There is no ban on carrying guns, everyone walks around with guns on the right and left, you never know when you will die. This is what life was like in those days.
The title of the film is Scarface. That was Al Capone's nickname. But unfortunately, the film is not about him. After all, the director said that he created the image of Tony Camonte, focusing on two other gangsters - Jim Colosimo and Charles Dion O'Bannion.
In general, “Scarface”, I would not say that this is a revolution in the genre, because it was the first representative of its genre, it is rather a revolution in the cinema, because before this film, none of the directors dared to show America, full of cruelty, anarchism.
The main character of Tony Kamonte, he was played by Paul Mooney. Played really well. And his signature walk after being hit by a car. I've even heard that this gait was used to make zombies walk in computer games. And it really looks a lot like zombies. Tony was already a kind of walking zombie. All he had to do was kill, kill and kill. He was feared by everyone around him because he didn’t care if he was a friend or an enemy when his personal interests were compromised. This was shown in a storyline with her sister. In general, I think in those years there were plenty of people all over America. After the war, they began to disappear, and in the 30s there was a pond on the streets of their cities.
This is probably my favorite movie about gangsters. I liked it even more than The Godfather, both the first and second and third parts, more than Once Upon a Time in America. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen a remake of that movie, 1983’s Scarface, and Al Pacino is still playing there, but I’ll definitely do it soon. And I liked this film even, probably, more with its style, so successfully choose shades of two colors at a time when there were no computers or normal video cameras, then the sound for the film to record, it was heroism. And in those days came such a masterpiece. An unforgettable classic.
