George Raft was born on September 27, 1895 in New York (New York, USA). At the age of 13, he left home, tried many professions - from a dancer to a taxi driver, had connections with the underworld of New York. In the late 1920s, Raft went to Hollywood, where he soon became a famous actor. After the film "Scarface" (1932) to Raft "stick" the image of a gangster hero. I must say, such roles were best for him, and almost two decades of success accompanied the actor, but then his popularity began to decline. In the mid-1950s, George Raft starred in the television series "I am the law", but the series was unsuccessful, in vain was an attempt to star in Europe. In 1959, Billy Wilder’s film “Some Love the Hottest” was released on the screens of the United States, known in the domestic box office as “Only Girls In Jazz”. The role of Colombo "White Getras", brilliantly played by Raft, became in a sense a parody of all previous works of the actor. Since the mid-1960s, Raft has been appearing less and less on screen, playing mostly episodic roles. It is worth mentioning that the actor owned several gambling houses, including in England and Cuba (before Fidel Castro came to power). George Raft died in Los Angeles on November 27, 1980.
