Who is he? the guardian angel or the devil in the flesh?
Joel Schumacher for me is known primarily for one psychological thriller (Phone Box) and several average Batman movies. And I was really excited to see him make an opera musical. I could not combine these two concepts, but after a few positive feedback from my friends about the film, I still watched it.
In the depths of the Paris Opera lives a man. Everyone calls him the Phantom of the Opera. He keeps the fifth box forever, takes a lot of money to have performances in his opera. But the owner changed, and the new decided not to go on his terms and so the box began to occupy the audience, and the money ceased to flow into the pocket of the ghost. He sent out many warnings, but all in vain. At the same time, he fell in love with the young opera singer Christina. But it's not that simple. She is already loved by the wealthy Viscount Raúl de Chagni, and seems to reciprocate. But how in such a triangle to remain a person when life, career, and love are at stake.
If you describe this film in a few words, then the words immediately come to mind: colorful, enchanting. Anyway, it's great. I haven’t seen a movie like this in a long time. And it is not a matter of well-made scenery, in which every little thing is drawn.
It is in the atmosphere itself. The time of the film is approximately 19th century. That is why the situation is appropriate.
The second colorful film is its musical numbers. They are just as good as any other musical. I have never seen an opera musical and was very pleased with my first impression. In this regard, I want to say that the actors played just wonderfully. One Butler solo is worth it. This actor I know only from the recent film “Law-abiding citizen” and in some other films, where he played secondary roles, so there I did not notice him. In a word bravo.
Well and of course Emmy Rossum. Certainly one of her best roles. The Golden Globe nomination is well deserved.
There are weaknesses in the film. At least the same story. No matter how much I am happy with the musical numbers, but it is worth admitting that there are too many of them here. I’m not really complaining, it was very cool, but it’s worth admitting that the film is seriously stretched. Although the overarching theme takes a long time, this is not the case in this film. So I admit that by the end of the movie I was pretty tired.
Watching the movie is a must, even for those who do not like musicals. I watched it with great pleasure, which I wish you. Original
