You think you know yourself? You don’t have the right ideas... If you think it’s a movie about racism, you’re wrong, because Paul Haggis’ Oscar-winning film is much deeper. Seeing only racism, we limit the characters to the color of their skin and, almost without noticing it, fall into the same misconceptions and stereotypes as the characters in the film. Race is the biggest difference.
Watching this movie for the first time, try to follow the story of one character who seems closest to you, imbued with his problems. Then at the end of the film you will find that this is a completely different person, who has received and, most importantly, learned from life some important lesson.
A clash in the film is a clash with life when events force you to reimagine yourself. John Ryan (Matt Dillon) said to his former partner, “You think you know yourself?” You have no idea...
Not the last role is played by a wonderful soundtrack from Mark Isham.
