During the summer holidays, he worked for his father’s road construction firm. At the age of 19, Haggis wrote his first play and later asceticized in the local theater. At the age of 22, he went west to Hollywood, where he entered the path of a novice playwright: during the day he worked, then as a furniture loader, then as a photographer in a department store, and in the evenings he attended courses and wrote scripts. Nevertheless, the order for the first script came to him from his homeland - Haggis wrote the script for the "pilot" episode of the comedy series, continuing his cooperation and further. His first chance in Hollywood came after three years of fighting for a place in the sun. Thanks to the successful script work, the producers noticed him, and Haggis got an opportunity for writing. He worked actively and with great success for TV series, in 1987 he turned to production activities, in 1993 he made his debut as a director, filming the film "Red Heat" ("Saboteur"). His success has been recognized by a number of professional awards, including several Emmys. A new stage in the work of Paul Haggis began in 2000, when he decided to focus on “big” cinema. Another great success of Haggis is associated with the film "Million Dollar Baby" (2004) - he was the author of the script of this film, directed by Clint Eastwood, and the main roles in it were played by Hilary Swank and Morgan Freeman. In 2005, the thriller “Clash”, staged by Haggis, with the participation of Sandra Bullock and Don Cheadle, was released.
