Broken window ... I have a strange feeling after watching this movie, I probably will never be able to explain it. It’s just that this movie is dear to me and it’s somewhere deep in my heart.
It's hard for me to express my opinion. But I have read a lot of reviews, and I can say that I do not agree with any person at least a few tens of percent (in my opinion, even if there is something similar, it is only approximately, and if you go on the other side, then there is no such thing at all).
This film is another adaptation of Stephen King’s book. I still don’t know why I chose Secret Window, Secret Garden. This story was not originally intended for film adaptation, since the main part of it is the reflection of the main character. I read the book much later than I saw the movie. So I wanted to see the tape because of my friend, who in colors told me how lousy this film is.
The directorial work impressed me. David Koepp doesn’t often make movies, he writes scripts. But if he decided to make a film, it would be a masterpiece! The “Secret Window” is no exception. Great idea and looks very good on the screen. The director shows us almost the entire film from the “mirror glass”, through the eyes of Mort. That is, we see the world as the main character imagines it. Thus, we think about the action of the picture, as well as the main character and are entirely on his side. This, in my opinion, is just a brilliant decision, because what is impossible to imagine on the screen, Koepp makes the audience feel. In this way, in my opinion, the unique atmosphere of King’s work has been preserved.
In many ways, there is merit and the operator, in my opinion, the best shots in the film are a smooth entrance into the “mirror glass”, and a sharp and unexpected exit from it.
The shooting place is a beautiful, old country house on the shore of the lake. A very picturesque place, against the background of which disgusting events develop. I liked the comparison at the end of the film (Morth's house in consciousness split in two, as did his soul).
All the action is based on wonderful actors. Johnny Depp is almost the whole movie on screen, but that doesn’t make the story boring. John Torturro, who again played a rather negative role, also fits in quite deftly. The same goes for Maria Bello.
The beginning of the film is perfectly adapted to the book. As for the rest of the tape, it has been changed, as it is not possible to fully convey the entire book. But the end, nevertheless, remained “King” – all the same unfinished thought, which leaves in a slight shock.
My decision is that this movie must be watched! Although I'm probably a little biased, so I'm not going to burden you with my opinion. The film is ambiguous, because of this, it can not be liked by everyone.
My score is 10 out of 10, for a masterpiece in the category of psychological thriller!
