Not yet. Murder is one of Stanley Kubrick’s earliest creations. I do not share the excitement about this work of the director!
The plot is ordinary detective, in fact - none. Standard story - a company of scammers is planning a robbery, one of them has a tongue length slightly above the norm; a spectacular blonde is a hunter for money; her lover, who wants to grab the whole jackpot at a convenient time. Full set. I will keep quiet about the connections and relationships among the heroes, everything is normal here too. So let me get straight to the conclusion.
In my subjective opinion, the film does not have any high artistic merits. The first part is pretty boring. If I played this movie without the credits, I would think I was watching a middle-class detective series of the fifties. There is absolutely no magical atmosphere that Kubrick conveyed in almost every subsequent film. There are a couple of scenes near the end where you can guess Kubrick's future. But the sprouts of genius then still violent growth was not noted, although they have already risen.
The child, before beginning to write, first learns to output individual icons, then letters, then puts them into words. Over time, the handwriting becomes firmer, more confident. For me, “Murder” is a kind of prescription for Kubrick, in which the future master trained his bright creative handwriting.
