At the time, the film surprised me. I remember anticipating the dumbest superhero movie of all (and I saw it later in the reboot), but it was pretty good. For a superhero film turned out quite thoughtful, psychedelic and sometimes even arthouse. By the way, the film lasts more than 2 hours and at that time (the films lasted 1.20) it was rare - the authors did not fit into a modest format, because they had something to say. The theme of the father, the theme of hatred is very well put, there is a lot of psychology in them. Man and his inner evil, locked together in a dark cage.
What really spoiled the film is that in some places it is absolutely squalid special effects, the cheapest, they are so bad that it could only be done on purpose.
P.S. I didn’t watch the movie when it was new, I wasn’t interested. But I had such a funny experience, I think, in 2004. I was riding my bike and I saw pop and civilian talking. Pop proved something and shook his hands charismaticly in the air, and something rectangular darkened in one hand. "What's the Bible?" I thought. The next second I saw it was a Hulk DVD. I wish I knew the point.
