Two guys drinking beer see a black girl walking along the road, and they are in a car. They drive up, throw one bottle of beer, another, then rape her, but that's not the task, the branch broke and the girl survived, but only in the end she will never be able to have children. Her father is grieving, and from this grief he kills these two guys with a gun queue. He is naturally imprisoned, and the trial begins, at which they must decide to release him or execute him in the gas chamber.
As you can imagine, the movie will have a happy ending from the beginning. With the trend of the development of modern cinema, a different outcome can not even fit into your head. This is one of the main problems of the film. What does Schumacher mean by this finale? That all courts are normal, jurors are not corruptible, and only some sloppy speech at the very end can fundamentally change a person's idea of something? I don't. It's pretty smooth. It would have been different, the movie would have gone up a few points in my eyes. Of course, I would feel sorry for the main character, but then even if the film had some morality, Schumacher would say that most judges are corrupt, as are the jury. Or not. It’s all good, so let it be...
The second claim in the script is, of course, this clan. I haven't seen this kind of nonsense in a long time. The whole impression of the film immediately spoils. The story without them was predictable, but quite fascinating, and so on. Just wasted half an hour of screen time. So instead of 2:30, the movie could go 2 hours straight. Obviously, this storyline is superfluous here.
Given that the cast was quite serious, I expected the corresponding game. Well, almost all of my expectations were met. Matthew McConaughey is certainly not a bad actor, but I’m going to see a better lawyer than Tom Cruise in A Few Good Guys. Kevin Spacey really liked his role. Always confident prosecutor in his execution turned out very well. Of course, it is clear that this film was shot before his star roles in the film “American Beauty”, and others, too, but still very good, it’s a pity that he was not shown in the film. And Samuel L. Jackson, of course. Very, very well, no wonder he had a Globe nomination.
In general, it turned out quite a fascinating film in which there is absolutely no drama in many situations and clearly it flies with the storyline about the clans. Well, obviously she's superfluous here... Why the writers invented it is not clear.
