If you discard any hopes of any historicism, you get Floris with violence and nudity. On the film you can safely hang the label - erotic. That's not bad.
Verhoeven made a medieval fairy tale about lying leaders, the plague, fanatics and the hope of people for a better life. Almost from the very beginning, it becomes clear that all parties to conflicts seem to be good guys, and behave like bastards. All the characters of the picture are painted in light gray tones.
Interesting movie, definitely worth watching. The influence, albeit fabulous, but the Middle Ages on individuals who are absolutely worthless in the old value system is shown. One lack of good guys and bad guys in the movie deserves respect. For the background, it is probably not by chance that 1501 is taken, the old system is gradually being broken down, people sometimes begin to see people in each other, and doctors guess at trying new methods of treating the plague.
Perhaps that’s why the movie has a bright aftertaste.
