Filmed as a documentary, where the main character is the director Nanni Moretti, “Dear Diary” / Caro diario, 1993, consists of three parts – “Wespa”, “Islands” and “Doctors”. In the first part, Moretti will take us on his scooter to not the most famous areas of Rome and in the end will take us to the place where Pier Paolo Pasolini was once killed and where a memorial sign is installed - both the sign and the terrain look squalid and squalid. In the second part, Moretti, along with his friend, studying Ulysses, will again go to the not-so-famous archipelago, the Lipara Islands, to work quietly, but they will not be able to find such a place. In the third part, he will talk about his medical epic, how he went to the doctors for almost a year because of the unbearable skin itching that appeared in him, starting with dermatologists and ending with Chinese doctors, until one of them suggested that the treatment does not help him and sent him first for x-rays, and then for tomography, after which he was already in the operating room and he was finally diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma. Then he had already read in the encyclopedia the symptoms that were supposed to lead the doctors to his diagnosis, because they were like him. He concluded that doctors can speak but cannot listen. I cannot say that the film turned out to be very interesting, although Moretti received an award at Cannes as the best director and earned a number of nominations and prizes at various film festivals. It is shot in the spirit of satirical comedy, although there is not much funny there and the satire is rather cautious. If it’s a documentary, it’s one thing, but if it’s an art film, you can still find some drawbacks, but in principle, I didn’t watch without interest, although I won’t recommend it to everyone.
